Vegan diners who like Indian food should head to Tamarind Tribeca. This gorgeous restaurant's menu has plenty of vegan options to satisfy your craving. Tamarind was once Tamarind Restaurant, located in the Flatiron district. Tamarind made the move downtown to Tribeca, and they are now an excellent place in Lower Manhattan to experience standout Indian food in an upscale atmosphere. There are lots of traditional options on the Tamarind menu. For vegan dishes food opt for a choice like Aloo Tikkiyas—spicy potato cakes, pomegranate, and mint chutney—or Dum Aloo Gobi, which is potatoes and cauliflower simmered in an onion tomato sauce. Tamarind's concept is to mix the best of contemporary NYC with traditional Indian cuisine, so diners there get to taste the best of the Big Apple and feel transported continents away.

Head downtown to EN Japanese Brasserie for a take on Japanese food that's vegan-friendly. The chef of the restaurant is Abe Hiroki, and he cooks up a fresh, inventive menu that changes with the seasons. Of course, there is plenty of sushi to satiate any meat-eating friends. However, there are options for vegans, as well, including Chilled Soba with dashi dipping broth and Zensai, a combination of mozuku seaweed, konnyaku, yuzu daikon, hijiki, and fresh scooped tofu. EN Japanese Brasserie also has an interesting wine, sake, and cocktail menu, so be sure to try a beverage for an interesting pairing with the meal.
