Magical is a word thrown around a lot when discussing Tavern On The Green and one can’t help but feel magic in the air. Jim and David, architect Richard Lewis and landscape architect Robin Key, preserved the Victorian/ Gothic elegance of the semi-circular building; it is authentic, natural, elegant and sexy. It has been re-built to spectacular precision and the décor is of a grand farmhouse one might find on the property of an Italian Villa or a historic Hudson River Valley mansion.

Dress Code: Smart Casual. Jacket and Tie are Not Required.
* We do not permit sleeveless shirts for gentlemen nor athletic/running/jogging attire for any patrons in the main restaurant.

    Regrettably, given its storied past, my expectations were quite elevated, rendering disappointment almost inevitable. Nonetheless, it was a charming establishment, likely even more delightful in season. Unfortunately, our visit happened to be on an oppressively hot day. The fare was satisfactory, though it lacked the extraordinary touch I had hoped for.

    The iconic Tavern on the Green is one of my favorite places to visit on a trip to NY City. The diversity of the menu, offering seasonal offerings makes for a food adventure. Service is top notch, whether for Lunch or Dinner. You are never rushed or feel that you are not the most important person your server will have that day.

    I ordered the grilled chicken salad. My companion order the special: lobster roll. I asked the waitress that the chicken be juicy not dry. The chicken came dry and tasteless. The salad for the chicken was limp and not fresh. Some lettuce pieces clearly showed rusted iron, a sign of age. My companion's lobster roll small, half the size of typical lobster rolls sold elsewhere in the same neighborhood; and, at $39 with string fries, very much overpriced.

    We absolutely loved our experience this evening. First, HECTOR! Amazing server. So knowledgeable and personable. Took time to talk and interact with us. Fabulous. The halibut and black sea bass ceviche was perfect on a hot summer evening. Seasoned so well, and the plantain chips were so addictively crunchy. My mom enjoyed her burrata. The cooked tomatoes were a welcome variation and the burrata was surprisingly light. The whole branzino was so beautifully cooked and absolutely luscious. My mom said the salmon was cooked nicely as well. We split the crème brûlée for dessert. Beautiful bing cherry flavor. The marinated cherries and biscotti were lovely on top. And the VALUE! This was the most iconic restaurant we hit while on vacay in NYC but it happened to be the least expensive lunch or dinner we had. Bravo!!!

    Arrived at 7, 5 people. No drinks. Left close to 10pm. Ordered the Artichoke, special appetizer, but they ran out. And Service slow. Ordered filet, asked for Bernaise. Server Came back 20 mins later and we were told they can't do Bernaise. I asked them to check again because Bernaise is pretty easy. Someone that was also having a filet asked for any kind of sauce- Heinz 57? The server came back and said "they said they're too busy and don't do Bernaise. And is "Heinz 57" like ketchup? Anyway, we don't have that. " I told them to cancel the filet for me. But Steaks arrived and I received the one I cancelled with the waiter coming over saying, "I told them to cancel that" ... but I kept it to not make a scene. I cut my steak and mine was tough as leather 😫extra well done. Rarely do I complain but it was just bad service and not the same TotG we have gone to for 30-40 yrs. There were other things but it was just not a great experience.
