The Lobster Club is a Japanese brasserie run by Major Food Group, a proprietor of many famous restaurants in the city. The menu takes on a large range of classic Japanese cooking techniques and flavors and focuses on teppanyaki and sushi. Located on 53rd Street in Midtown East, this is a fabulous space designed by renowned architect Peter Marino. The peach armchairs and funky design make the restaurant a fun place to hang out and sample some of the city’s best sushi. Their teppanyaki is the star of the menu and for the full experience here you will want to try the Tomahawk Ribeye—rubbed with Cumin and Szechuan and served hibachi style.

In order to get a full sampling of the iconic meal here, start with the Tete de Veau au Caviar. It’s a fried veal head with green tomato, creme fraiche, and caviar. Then move to the La Peche Locale for your main course—a black bass, eel, and stuffed squid served with traditional fish soup and rouille.

Aquavit, located in an elegant setting in Midtown East, has a wonderfully clean and contemporary design. They pay extreme attention to detail here, plating the courses on beautiful dishware, using wood boxes, slate platters, and glazed earthenware. The kitchen does many things well, but what is most impressive is Chef Emma Bengtsson’s knowledge of Scandinavian flavors. She blends ingredients like dill, lingonberry, smoke, and brine into phenomenal dishes. Try the Chef’s Tasting Menu to get the full experience. The standout dish is a delicately cooked Dover sole plated with crisp apple, parsnip, and seasoned pork cheek ragu.
