Charleston's best restaurants based upon thousands of OpenTable diner reviews
We enjoyed the tasting menu in the private dining room with the reserve pairing. The sommelier explained each pairing selection. He is truly talented. The flavors of each dish were paired flawlessly. Our server was also extremely professional with immaculate attention to detail. It was impressive to watch the kitchen in action. They were subdued and focused. I anticipated more interaction with them, but appreciated that we were the last meal of the evening. The selections were heavy on seafood, but they ask you in advance if you have aversions or allergies. This was a unique experience for me. I recommend it for very special occasions. Gusto Ristorante is a new Northern Italian restaurant with a touch of South at the fresh Market Plaza in Hilton Head Island.
The executive chef and owner Giancarlo Balestra with his wife Nancy bring the vibrant flavors of his native hometown of Rome, Italy to Hilton Head. The couple who met in Rome 28 years ago discovered their shared passion for food and adventure and have since owned and operated restaurants in Aspen, Co, Winter Park, Fla and Saratoga Springs, NY. They fell in love with Hilton Head while visiting the island serendipitously at the moment the former "843" Restaurant location became available. They also happened to be staying at the Marriott resort in room #843! They decided to jump into this new exciting culinary adventure, hence the name Gusto, which means flavor and taste in Italian but also means a zest and enthusiasm for a delicious taste of life. The restaurant has a full bar, extensive wine list. The Italian born chef's menu stays true to his roots.More

The Granary delivers downtown sophistication with its Lowcountry inspired menu. The Granary’s menu focuses on the seasonal bounty of the region with ingredients that are sourced from local farms and purveyors. The menu boasts a selection of starters, vegetables and entrees that feature both familiar and approachable Southern staples. Entrée highlights include duck cassoulet and Shem Creek shrimp and grits, as well as smoked barbecue spiced pork chop. The bar program complements the chef’s Lowcountry-inspired menu featuring an abundant selection of craft cocktails, wine and beer for the spacious 50-seat bar. Along with local favorites from breweries, seasonal cocktails are available on tap. The contemporary restaurant’s interior features dark wood tables, high ceilings, industrial chandeliers and antique farm stools. Guests are invited to dine in the large booths, at the raw bar, in the extensive bar area or out front in the al fresco dining area. More
The company was founded in 2012 by Bill Travis. The operation was in place before that time as a hobby for about three years. As time progressed, Mr. Travis increasingly received requests and orders for the food he smoked. Mr. Travis began entering competitions, and after several placings, was recognized by those not only outside of his local “fan base” but by BBQ enthusiasts statewide. In 2012, Mr. Travis retired from his profession of 25 years in the jewelry industry and converted his “hobby” into a restaurant business. Shortly thereafter, Wholly Smokin’ BBQ was placed on the SC BBQ Trail. In 2013, Mr. Travis was approached by an investor, Andy Jeffords, who shared in the same dream of taking Wholly Smokin’ BBQ & Ribs to the next level. Today, we are excited to be relocated to the historic district of Florence. We are happy to be a part of the revitalization of downtown Florence, as we are certain these efforts will bring growth and new life to the downtown area.More

Charleston takes southern charm to a whole new level. In fact, the city snagged the #1 spot on Travel & Leisure’s World’s Best Cities list in 2016. The combination of elegant historic architecture, cobblestone streets, balmy weather, and southern cuisine makes it a winner. Along the South Carolina coast, the resort towns of Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head are full of restaurants serving Atlantic seafood and new American specials. Further inland, Greenville is gaining a reputation for being a burgeoning restaurant hub of the south.
