Focusing predominately on fresh local seafood with a French, Lowcountry flare, Charlie’s is the place for good food, good wine and unforgettable memories all enjoyed in a quaint French country atmosphere.

A Savannah native, Charlie Golson’s interest in the French language and culture took him to Paris. After a long stint in the fast paced hotel kitchens of Washington DC, he was ready to move back closer to home. It was at that time he was able to open up a one room French bistro. The restaurant has grown over the years, but the ‘Green Star’ remains steadfast in offering the finest ingredients the Low country has to offer with a menu that is hand written daily. Resort Casual.

After sitting for several minutes, I wondered if the table came with a waiter. Others seated after us were having their orders taken and drinks delivered. For being a French restaurant with multiple fish entrees, I was surprised that there was one Sancerre offering. Thankfully it was good. The side potatoes were deliciously creamy and the fish was adequate. An ok dining experience overall.

Outstanding meal from beginning to end. The young woman who seated us greeted uacwith a huge smile, and we knew we were gonna be in for a good evening . Service was polite and informative. Pace was generally good although there were some long pauses in between courses at times. It was an added plus to include a salad. Escargot was excellent, but could’ve used a little salt but was very garlic, buttery and yummy. I tried an apple gazpacho soup which was refreshing and not heavy. Red fish, duck, pork chop, and mahi-mahi were all outstanding. People had a smile on their face all night and it appeared to be very busy inside although we were outside with fans that partially broke through the extreme heat. Absolutely would return. Pricewise it was not cheap by any means but escargot for $12 was a steal. Well done!!!!

Best restaurant we’ve been to on the island. We made a late reservation and could only eat in the bar. The service was terrific and the bartenders and servers awesome. It was a little loud. But that’s because a young family with little kids was in the sitting area. We will be back!

Absolutely fabulous! The food was phenomenal, and our server was amazing. I believe this may have a quiet atmosphere and a romantic dinner spot; however, we had a very large party that was sat right after us which brought distraction.
