Californian | North Panhandle / USF, San Francisco

Seated immediately even though two of three had not arrived. Prompt and low key service throughout. Appetizers of smoked salmon and fried “little fish” were fresh, tasty and decent sized. Mains of grilled salmon and their famous pork chop were outstanding. The pork chop was moist, flavorful and nicely paired with pickled red onions and grilled vegetables. Superb wine list and a hopping environment. Nopa is still a compelling restaurant with serious food and a welcoming warmth. More

Seafood | North Panhandle / USF, San Francisco

We were a few minutes late for a reservation, but the host sat us right away and graciously. It was a full house, incredibly loud and my companion and I could not hear each other at all, so they let us know that they would give us a window seat which was more enclosed if the reserving party never showed up. Otherwise, honestly, we considered leaving. We got the table! This helped extraordinarily, we could actually hear each other. We ate an entrée as an appetizer and it was amazing: tender, sweet octopus. Followed by another delicious couple of plates: I had a lobster salad which included creamy buratta, spicy arugula, sweet peaches! She had a whole branzino which was so delicious that she ate it down to the bone and then ordered one to go to bring home to her partner. Even though the kitchen was closing at that point, they made it happen! We had several glasses of wine, and in retrospect I should have ordered a bottle. Desserts were not intriguing, but we had a really great meal. The only reason I can’t I give it five stars is because the noise was off the hook. More

It was a great dinner. My only complaint is that the acoustics are not good- it was difficult to hear my date. More

Iraqi | North Panhandle / USF, San Francisco

The food and service here is absolutely fabulous, It's Iraqi cuisine and it's absolutely authentic. It's a family run place, and everyone involved is great. I love coming here, and and the food is always delicious. They have a great beer and wine list, and the prices are very moderate, and the portions are large. Come eat here and you won't be disappointed. More

When we arrived to our 5:30 reservation we were stunned when the hostess told us Che fico had 2 establishments and that our Open Table Rez was for downstairs in Che Fico Alimentari & not In Che Fico upstairs main restaurant! Fortunately She shared that this happens all the time and although she could not seat us at a table she could put us at the bar. It all worked out. The food was the best. The service was great. And we will be back with our friends! More

Discover NOPA

The area “north of the Panhandle” is one of the hippest hotbeds in SF, with a food scene that’s as eclectic as the color combinations on the nearby Painted Ladies. Focused mostly around Divisadero Street, NOPA is known for cafes that churn out thick-cut toast slathered with artisanal toppings, and more savory options—from BBQ to farm-to-table dining that helped put the neighborhood on the map. Dive bars, oyster houses, and local mainstays add to the energy of this central San Francisco hub, reflecting the different flavors of the city as longtime institutions mixed with new favorites that pop up faster each day. After getting a bite, be sure to explore Alamo Square for postcard perfect views of downtown—and 90’s pop culture appeal.
