September is one of the major awards seasons in the restaurant industry and things are continuing to heat up. Following Bon Appétit’s best new restaurants reveal, Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs list—now in its 36th year, and one of the most eagerly anticipated announcements in the food world—is here.

Legends like Nancy Silverton, Daniel Boulud, and David Chang are all alums of the list, so you can imagine what a big deal it is to be included. Thirteen chefs around the country made the cut this year, and they include Lawrence “LT” Smith of Phoenix’s Mexican-influenced hotspot Chilte and Camari Mick and Mary Attea of NYC favorites Raf’s and The Musket Room.

Food & Wine editors traveled to dozens of cities and ate at hundreds of restaurants before narrowing it down to this group that they singled out for their ambitious and wildly creative skills in the kitchen. You can also look at 389 winners from the past 36 years here
