Editor’s Note: OpenTable is committed to using our platform to elevate diverse voices and stories and to support the entrepreneurs who are working every day to enrich our communities. Please consider supporting Black-owned restaurants and businesses in your area. Below is a compilation of lists, organized by state, that others have created and maintain as resources to find these businesses. It is not comprehensive; if you know of similar lists in other areas, please send them to blog@opentable.com.
Restaurants are an important part of our communities and our society. They are places where we create connection and learn about different cultures, traditions, and ideas. They are also an economic engine for our country empowering diverse communities from all over the world to support their families and a more equitable society.
Now more than ever, it is an important moment to patronize Black-owned businesses as a way to support racial equality.
Anela Malik eloquently shares her thoughts on why this is such an important way to be an ally for the Black community, including that Black people have less access to wealth and credit and are disproportionately affected by COVID-19, among other factors.
She writes, “…what we do with our money matters. During this period of economic crisis, those personal choices matter even more than usual. As individuals, one of the best ways to stand up for those at greater risk, to support communities that are neglected, discriminated against, or left behind, is to support them financially.”
