The space now includes its own biergärten and restaurant along with a working brewery. Pop art photographs add bursts of colour to a dining room decorated with clean lines, white banquettes, and blond wood. Light, prettily plated dishes such as tuna tartare with yuzu dressing and lamb barbacoa with radish slaw are influenced by varied Mexican, Asian, and seasonal flavours. A Birthday Bash with a View – and Prosecco! We celebrated my daughter’s birthday at KŌST, perched atop the Bisha Hotel, and the experience was top-notch from start to finish. The food? Absolutely delicious—every dish was beautifully presented and even better going down. The service? Warm, attentive, and somehow managed that magical balance of being professional without ever feeling stuffy. The cherry on top (or should I say, the bubbles on top): my daughter was treated to a complimentary glass of prosecco for her birthday. She felt like a queen, and I got serious mom points. Win-win. Between the killer skyline views, the chic ambiance, and the all-around great vibes, KŌST turned a simple birthday lunch into a memory we’ll be smiling about for a long time. Highly recommend—just be prepared to fall a little in love with the place (and maybe ask for a second glass of prosecco).

While one might assume the restaurant’s notorious nude sculptures and paintings would be the showiest element of Joso’s interior, deep red tablecloths, red carpeting, and eclectic curio collections give the titillating artwork a run for its money. Drake, featured in Joso’s interior on the cover of his Take Care album, is just one of the celebrities who’s dined here over the decades. The restaurant is still in the family, now run by Spralja’s son and daughter-in-law. The fried calamari, which Spralja is said to have been the first to serve in Toronto, is a must-order.

A lovely old standby for seafood but incredibly pricey for the wine and drinks and a bit less authentic Croatian than I expected catering more to the rich old Yorkville set.

The food and service are always outstanding. I find the music a little too loud and the heaters on the outdoor patio far too intense for my liking. We moved to a different table to try to sit farther from the heaters.

Bar Isabel, a cozy room with plastered, curving walls, richly colored tiles, and warm lighting that encourages diners to linger for hours, is one of the city’s most romantic pockets. It also happens to serve some of the best Spanish food in town. Run by well-known Toronto chef and restaurateur Grant van Gameren, the menu sticks to tapas bar classics and executes them perfectly. The sharing-style menu lends itself well to snacks and drinks or a full dinner. Think crispy patatas bravas, tender grilled octopus, and olive oil-drenched pan con tomate that complement the extensive list of Spanish wines and vermouths.

The food was excellent, as always, and we had a lovely time. We really appreciated being seated at the table we requested in our reservation notes—it was a thoughtful detail. However, we were celebrating our 1st anniversary at what has always been our favourite spot in the city, and it was disappointing that there was no acknowledgment of the occasion. A simple “congratulations” or even a candle would have meant a lot. With the 20% gratuity already included, we expected warm and attentive service as we always experienced here. Unfortunately, our server was cold and disengaged throughout the evening and wasn’t very attentive, and unlike the other tables around us, we didn’t even receive a simple goodbye when we left. The food was great, but my husband and I were very disappointed since it was such an important occasion. With cold service and no acknowledgment, it was a very big disappointment. We love this place but might start looking for a new favourite.

When you want to dine like royalty, head to BlueBlood Steakhouse — one of Toronto’s most luxurious steakhouses, located in the city’s historic castle, Casa Loma. The interior is part modern hunting lodge, with leather banquettes and antler chandeliers, and part art museum, with works by Dali, Warhol, and street artist Mr. Brainwash lining the walls. Against this backdrop, dishes such as a dry-aged striploin or a rare bottle from the restaurant’s wine cellar (built by the original owner of the castle to house over a thousand bottles) don’t feel extravagant — instead they’re right in line with the surroundings.The surf is as good as the turf, including a seafood tower piled high with king crab, jumbo prawns, lobster, oysters, and salmon crudo.

I would highly recommend BlueBlood for a special occasion. It is pricey but the food is great, the service top notch and the surroundings are the best in Toronto. A very special dining experience!
