- PMProfMCvipRaleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill •2 reviews5.0Dined 7 days agoI'd been to Banyan Bar once before, but didn't realize it because 1) the drinks were on point, and 2) we were sitting outside. I chose the restaurant for a Tuesday date-night dinner with my husband this week, and we agreed I picked a winner. First, the restaurant noted my request for a padded seat due to a chronic hip injury. We were seated quickly, and our server was attentive, but not overly so. The floor manager was helping out and was also very personable. Our cocktails were perfect. The Nora Desmond is deliciously bitter; the frosé is sweet-tart slushy deliciousness in a glass! We ordered several dishes: the cauliflower was seasoned and cooked to perfection; the thai cabbage wraps were a savory delight. The salt-and-pepper shrimp had a crispy, tempura-like coating - I only wish there were a few more to serve as vehicles for the dipping sauce. My husband left no crumbs behind on his plate of short ribs (I don't eat beef). For dessert, I had the brownie, he had the lemon trifle. Both were tasty, but didn't quite hold their own like the savory dishes. And the trifle was the better of the two. I'd definitely recommend this spot to others, and will be sure to return.More infoBanyan Bar + Refuge$$$$• Asian• South End•4.7
