Watch How One of San Francisco’s Most Beloved Chinese Restaurants Stood Strong Through the Pandemic and Asian Hate

It was a year that rocked us all. And restaurants were hit especially hard, fighting to stay open and provide the hospitality that grounds our communities.

Despite the crushing circumstances, these businesses did what they do best — stayed focused, pivoted, and kept us fed. They reminded us why they are critical to our shared culture. And why we love them so much.

These are their pandemic stories — creative, inspiring, and heartfelt. At San Francisco Chinese food emporium China Live, owners George and Cindy Chen not only pivoted with ghost kitchens, retail offerings, and new outdoor space, but they also stood as a bastion of strength for SF’s iconic Chinatown community as it battled the rise of Asian hate crimes. Now, they’re on the rebound as they welcome diners back into their grand space.

Watch below, and keep an eye out in weeks to come for the unique rebound stories of L’Oca d’Oro in Austin, The Pink Dinghy in Virginia Beach, and 50Kitchen in Boston.
