Shall we eat out today? Not our usual places though, east perhaps? What about this place, Zer? Just along from Earth... Pea tahini? Never tried it.... fresh pureed peas, herbs and a sprinkle of Zaa, tar. And the liver: browned, perfectly cooked cubes, a hint of pink at their centres with sticky and savoury onions. A prawn tagine: a light broth with cubed vegetable and 8, 10, a dozen prawns?! How's your cod? Beautifully cooked fresh fish.. I actuall like the sauce, good depth but yes, it does have a very tomatoey flavour... semolina cake? Not sure, but we'l share a piece.. a homemade square of light crumb sitting in a sticky lemon syrup that's just sweet enough. And Turkish coffee arrives like a gift: a embossed miniature tankard, remove the cloche and there's a white china bowl filled with dense black coffee. Sit back and watch Stokey wander past the window. (Lovely staff too.)

About the restaurant
It’s about the journey, not the destination. That’s why we took our name from the Amber Road trade route. It reflects everything that makes us special – from our eastern mediterranean roots, to our modern London spirit. It inspired us to channel the flavours of our travels abroad and our heritage into one dining experience. A space where stories exchange hands as freely as the wine flows. This is Amber. A place where all are welcome.

The food (flavour and presentation) was excellent. We were seated outside initially but the noise from the construction work was very loud and so we asked to move inside. Decor is lovely inside. It would be beneficial if they would consider a children’s menu as there were a lot of families, including us, present in the cafe. £8 for a hot chocolate for kids just doesn’t seem worth it.

About the restaurant
Penelope's, part of the AMANO Group, is redefining London’s dining and nightlife scene. In 2024, Penelope’s won Best Luxury Restaurant at the British Food Awards, a testament to its culinary excellence. Executive Chef Fez Ozalgan curates a menu that merges Middle Eastern and Spanish flavors, using the finest ingredients. The restaurant’s ambiance is equally compelling, with mirrored ceilings, plush seating, and dramatic lighting. The experience is further enhanced by the open kitchen, offering diners a front-row view of the culinary artistry.

Named after founder Ariel Schiff’s daughter, the restaurant is a heartfelt tribute to the vibrant cultures of Spain and Tel Aviv. Schiff describes Penelope’s as "truly a matter of the heart," a place where the exuberance of Berlin meets the sophistication of London. On weekends, Penelope’s transforms into a lively party scene, featuring London DJs and the legendary Isramani dinner party, imported from Berlin.

Had a delicious brunch, I had the California Benedict and my husband had the Turkish breakfast. Both were delicious and served quickly! The hostess and staff were so friendly and accommodating. We tried the cardamom biscuits which were very tasty and I couldn’t resist getting the berry tart to finish. Very delicious! Beautiful ambience and setting.
