We planned a visit to Lennie's during their annual Oktoberfest. Of course we had to start with the Kartoffelpuffer potato cakes served with fried apple slices and sour cream--delicious! My spouse chose the Veggie Wurstplatte featuring Beyond Meat bratwurst while I chose the Rheinsalm with lemon-butter sauce and capers. Both meals came with red cabbage and potato salad. To drink we chose the Oktoberfest beer--absolutely the best one we've had this year! (I also tried a taste of the Krampus Russian Stout and promptly decided another visit needs to be worked into our schedule soon!) For dessert we shared a piece of Mein Mutter’s Apfelkuchen with locally made vanilla bean ice cream. So, full disclosure--we've had the apple cake before, and it was...very nice. The new owners have tweaked the recipe, and this time it was amazing! Both the appetizer and dessert were easily large enough for two to share and still be satisfied. The only bad thing about Oktoberfest--it only lasts for three days. But don't worry--there's plenty of great dishes on the regular menu. too! As always, the service was terrific. Our server was friendly and helpful, attentive without hovering, and she always seemed to sense when we needed something before we ever had to signal her.

The food was excellent. Our table had steak, shrimp and salmon. All perfect. Service was great, friendly and on top of everything. 3 of our group had never been and loved it.

Our waiter, Jason, was fantastic! The food was delicious as usual. The noise level is always a bit high, but it's a popular restaurant, so I guess that comes with the territory.

We were looking for a low key lunch since some of us had already eaten. We ordered a variety of tacos - shrimp, chicken tinga, barbacoa - and they were all outstanding. The ingredients were all super fresh and flavorful. The only thing better than the food was the service. Our waiter was also an assistant manager and he chatted with us at length about Bloomington. We will absolutely return.

Discover Bloomington

Centered around Indiana University, Bloomington is a growing city deeply rooted in its Midwestern heritage while dealing with plenty of global influence. This dichotomy is easily seen in its restaurant scene, with all-American steaks and burgers sitting right next to a diverse set of ethnic cuisines. Of course, being a college town, Bloomington has a fair number of pubs, most offering the iconic Hoosier tenderloin sandwich and better-than-typical pub food. For something a bit more upscale, fine dining options focus on steak, Italian, Greek, and French foods. Plenty of affordable restaurants also feature Chinese, Italian, Thai, Mexican, Middle Eastern, and Greek cuisines. Surrounded by Indiana farmland, most restaurants source locally grown produce for their menus.
