Food and presentation were excellent. Service was okay, but not great.
The must try for us was the artichoke tortellini!
Great lunch experience. Not crowded and felt safe given COVID situation. Food and service are always great! They are working on winterizing their outdoor area so I look forward to coming back as the weather gets colder.
Being in a virus target group, we chose Rioja to be our first dine-in restaurant & we were so pleased. Their COVID protocol was excellent & the lunch menu was varied & interesting. Started with a C3 Cava to celebrate my birthday & followed with the most delicious chicken salad sandwich you could ever imagine. For dessert I had a cinnamon gelato - if no one had been around, I would have licked the bowl. Another lovely meal at Rioja!!!
Thank you Jennifer & Beth - don’t give up hope.
Thanks for all of the stars and celebrating your anniversary with us BarryN!
Highly recommend the menu tasting with wine pairings!
FOOD Was not so good
octopus was over cooked
and just for the money you pay its not worth it
Our server was very polite, fun and took care of us
Thanks for the kind words LisaG. We hope to see you again soon!
As always an excellent experience. Service is top notch and food is impeccable. No matter what you order, you won't be dissapointed.
Despite the fact that COVID has asphyxiated the restaurant industry, Rioja remains a leader of the fine dining in our region. Our experience was outstanding. No compromises were made on quality of food nor on quality of service. We felt safe and cared for during our entire stay, and our meals were excellent. The potato cheese crepe of the day was the show stopper, but the Chronic chicken salad was a close second and I highly recommend it if you like a delicate curry spice under a textured acid forward chicken salad. Just wait until you get a crunch of candied walnut- well done chef.
Thank you so much Fury for taking the time to publish your feedback on your recent brunch experience. We are pleased to read that you had great time! Hope to see you again soon.
Extremely impressed with the quality of the food and the service. A great spot for date night or just a treat-yourself evening away from the crazy world.
Thanks for the wonderful review HeathM!
The service was great and the staff was very knowledgeable. The food was good but I think it was a bit overpriced.
Contemporary restaurant in trendy Larimer Square. Location and ambience are ideal, however, the food misses the mark. We had a scallop appetizer, beet salad, artichoke tortellini, gnocchi, and the prosciutto-wrapped pork tenderloin. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly, but the gorgonzola potato puree was overwhelmed by gorgonzola and the pork was very salty. The gnocchi was very small (half the size of normal gnocchi) and so dry it had a fried bread-like texture, more akin to a small crouton than gnocchi. I LOVE beets, but the other flavors of the salad were not complimentary. The soy-ginger glazed shiitake and sesame cracker provided an umami bitterness that didn't go well with the earthy beets. The artichoke tortellini was very good. The scallop appetizer had a perfectly cooked scallop, however, there was just one accompanied by a stewed pear that had a similar texture, yet a very bland flavor. Both the pear and the scallop were overpowered by a generous accoutrement of capers. Finally, the amuse-bouche of a tasty corn fritter arrived without explanation and was placed on a thin wooden disk that looked like a cracker on top of another plate. It took a minute to figure out the wooden disk was not a cracker and, unfortunately, a patron at a neighboring table painfully bit into the disk. The staff was perfect and the ambience was romantic and trendy, I just didn't enjoy the food. Of course, that is just my opinion.
Excellent night out with friends at Rioja! Made online reservations and were immediately seated after arriving on time. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The 4 of us had different entrees and everyone enjoyed their meals fully. I had the sausage stuffed quail and my wife wished she had also gotten it, though I thought her rack of lamb was delicious also. We will definitely return!
Great food and outdoor dining for lunch. Service was super great.
Thanks for the kind review Gwheel!
Absolutely perfect, beautiful night out. Birthday celebration. Everything was delicious and service was wonderful.
Everything was amazing! Definitely a must stop if in the Denver area!
Thanks for the great review ShantelleS! We are glad you could visit us while you were in Denver.
We celebrated our anniversary at Rioja and loved every second! From the ambiance to the lavender bread to the excellent service.. we wined and dined well!!
Thanks for the wonderful feedback of your experience KateK!
Had a wonderful experience the food was delicious and fortunately we got the smallest table in the house so we were a little crammed with the social distancing but all in all it was a good time
Rioja did it again! We looked and looked for a menu as inspired as Rioja’s but couldn’t. Every single bite was delectable and purposeful. Gnocchis were perfection. Artichoke tortellini are bright and briney... love love love this restaurant. Couldn’t recommend it higher.
We originally planned to visit early in the COVID pandemic but had to postpone. The experience was great with respect to distancing, food and ambience (we were near the charcuterie station and kitchen). I loved the veal sweetbreads (top 3 I have ever had) +plums with xo sauce (the tofu texture was more mapo than crispy but still excellent)and the sausage-stuffed quail +risotto/manchego/sunflower seeds and fennel pollen/grape/parsley salad was flavorful and well balanced (savory and sweet with a bit of earthiness). Since we sat beside the cloud cake and witnessed how quickly it was selling, we had a couple of slices for dessert—especially delicious! The beignets were fantastic as well. As an aside: the bread basket had great rosemary sourdough and buttery biscuits but the rosemary may have been a stretch for the biscuits. Altogether, Rioja was a welcome treat during 2020.
Since, like many, I do not get out very often these days, it was a tremendous gift to be treated so courteously by all the staff. Added to the delights of a wonderful evening. Thank you!
Not celiac friendly
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Denver!!! EXCELLENT food that melts in your mouth. I’m definitely making this a monthly experience!
Sophisticated service,food and atmosphere always!!!
Amazing salad with ahi tuna
Rioja is a great restaurant. Service was impeccable, the food superb and a nice lively ambiance. Highly recommended
Absolutely incredible food. My girlfriend and I haven’t had a chance to get out in a while. This is the best restaurant we have been to in Denver.
A lifelong fan since the first opened their doors, RIOJA NEVER DISAPPOINTS!
This was such an amazing place to get together with friends from out of town! Thank you! I will be back!
Met expectations and beyond! My fiancé and I were very satisfied with the menu options and overall the choices we made! Highlight for me was the Curried Cauliflower soup special paired with the Lavender Sourdough!
Thanks for the kind words DannyR- we hope to see you again soon!
Everything was just OK..... service was more like a Panera bread than a nice place. We got sat outside at 8:30 at night with no heaters on porch. Hard to justify a $200+ meal when your cold with poor service. :-(
Salad w figs, et al was very good. Sweetbreads were tasty along with the tuna appetizers. We had two orders of Spanish Octopus as well as two orders of the Lamb for our entrees. The Octopus was good but unfortunately the Lamb was overdone. We requested rare to medium rare temperature, but it showed up as medium well at best. We let it go as our server was fabulous and everything else was good. Will try again when we are next in town.
alcuni piatti erano eccellenti, altri decisamente più deludenti,
conti fatti è un buon ristorante ma sicuramente niente di sorprendente, il prezzo di alcuni piatti troppo alto comparato alla qualità, i cocktail decisamente deludenti
Just absolutely amazing dishes! Can’t get enough! Just moved to Denver 3 months ago and have dined here 4 times already. Absolutely Delicious!
We went to Rioja for my birthday. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess stated I had not reserved a table on the patio. I’d made the reservation a week or so prior, and most definitely had requested outdoor when reserving. We were seated in the back of the restaurant towards the kitchen. At the time, there was no one else there, so we actually felt more comfortable there. It’s important to note that the tables seemed quite close outside, and people are walking very close to you as they’re walking down Larimer Square. Many were not masked. Staff were wearing masks. Food was delicious, especially the bacon and gnocchi. Portions are small. Wine was way overpriced, but good. We paid $15/glass for a wine we later found out is $15 a bottle at Total Wine.
Great experience. Our server was very nice, the food was good, and the ambience was great! We couldnt have asked for a better anniversary dinner.
Thanks for the wonderful review KayaB!
Great outdoor seating available, nicely spaced out with great people watching.
The meal was great. I was very pleased with how carefully treated the entire meal was. The staff was friendly and the food was very good.
First time at Rioja and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was great and the outdoor experience is beautiful.
Sitting outside on Larimer street on a Sunday night was dreamy. Lots of couples out for a late bite under the all the string lights. Rioja took great care of us and the food was superb. We were not rushed through dinner, however things moved along well. All in all a lovely experience
