Fairhope has its share of American and Italian restaurants, steakhouses, and fine dining establishments, but you won't want to miss out on some of Alabama's southern comfort food. One great option is barbecue, which is usually shredded pork or chicken served on a bun. You can find it served smoky and sauceless, or try it with a tomato- or vinegar-based red sauce or a mayonnaise-based white sauce. It's served Southern-style, topped with coleslaw and pickles. If barbecue isn't your thing, there are plenty of places serving fresh and locally caught seafood like crab, oysters, shrimp, and fish. Or, add some iconic Southern sides like fried green tomatoes, grits, or fried okra. Don't forget to finish it all off with some banana pudding or a slice of pecan pie.
