We had scheduled a trip to Sage in anticipation of the most memorable meal for our vacation in San Juan this season. Having recently dined at the Mario Pagan restaurant, the sister facility to Sage, we expected a great meal and a fine dining experience. We were disappointed in the outcome. The person who seated us asked if we wanted anything besides water and if I wanted to see the wine list, to which I replied yes. He presented the wine list and within two minutes was back. "Have you made a selection?" he said. I said no, not yet. He left the menus and in another 2 minutes again asked if I made a selection about the wine. I again replied No and after another 5 minutes he came back and said " Have you made your selection?" I replied "Well how about taking our dinner order"? We gave our order along with my wine selection. He had previously presented us with a single dinner roll each on a plate. A nice touch here was to inform us that the roll contained nuts so as to avoid any allergy issues. When we got the appetizer that we had ordered, we still had only that plate with the bread crumbs on it from the roll on which to eat our appetizer which we had noted as being shared. In addition our initial server forgot to prompt me as to any selection of sauces which were offered as a supplement to the steak which I had ordered. I expect more from a fine dining establishment. Another server brought our entrees and asked me to cut into the center of my steak to make sure that it was cooked to my satisfaction (again a nice touch, and it was). It was an excellent piece of meat cooked properly however was a bit grizzly. My wife's ribs and shrimp were excellent, however nobody over the course of the meal came to ask us how our dinner was. We were the only couple at the time joined by one other couple during our stay there. These are the touches that one expects in a fine dining establishment especially at these steep prices. Overall not what we expected. MoreOpenTable Diner -
