Taverns have flourished along Santa Ynez’s Sagunto Street since 1906. Sixty years ago, four busy bars entertained the locals and visitors alike. These establishments were named Last Chance, the Bum Steer, Parker’s and the Maverick Saloon. While three of the four original taverns have since disappeared into history, the legendary Maverick Saloon is still going strong and continues to be a staple in the Santa Ynez valley.In 1963, Jerry and Diane Thompson bought nine bare lots from publisher tycoon Hastings Harcourt. Plans were drawn up for a museum, restaurant, two-story hotel and the Maverick Saloon, which is named after a TV series starring James Garner. A few years later (approx. 1968) the barn was built next to the saloon. To achieve an antique look, the Thompsons used materials salvaged from demolished Victorian houses. The barn’s history began as the “Lulubelle’s Restaurant” and a tool rental facility. The barn and dancehall became a permanent part of the Maverick Salo

We had an amazing experience dining in the outdoor area at S.Y. Kitchen—it’s much quieter and a perfect spot to enjoy a meal. The cilantro margarita was refreshing and delicious, and the olives appetizer are huge and incredibly tasty! We also shared a seasonal grapefruit salad with goat cheese, which was fresh and flavorful, followed by a margarita pizza that was cooked to perfection. Excellent food, wonderful service, and highly recommended!

This is our go to restaurant in town, we are here at least twice a month for several reasons: Luca, the chef is extraordinary and constantly produces phenomenal cuisine Stephanie, the Waitress is second to none, her service is always extraordinary and she knows the menu called Dan, the general manager is a wonderful human being, warm, welcoming, and the epitome of what a GM should be

What a unique experience being transported back in time to a roadside hotel that has been converted into a unique establishment. BTW the food in the restaurant was great.

All six of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Food was excellent - best piece of swordfish (and one of the best pieces of fish in general) I've ever had. Wife said same thing about filet. Smoke flavor is the key.
