While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

    I hosted a 70th birthday party for 5 women and requested a table upstairs. The restaurant was ready for us with a birthday card for the honoree and amazing service. It was the perfect venue for a celebration and I'll be back for many more! Food is always outstanding.

    I'm a fourth-generation Napa local and this is by far my favorite restaurant in town! The ambiance is elevated and gorgeous without being pretentious. Friendly and smooth service with excellent attention to detail. Refined yet approachable cuisine focusing on quality ingredients and inventive presentation. Commendations to staff members Ed, Libby, Alex and Rutuja! Every time we visit we feel like we're on vacation! Can't wait for next time.

    Well, let’s just start off with I showed up a day early for the reservation and they still managed to get us in.!!! Now that is service! We were there for restaurant week and we were very happy with our options and absolutely loved everything. The presentation was perfection and I can’t stop dreaming about the food. The Hamachi carpaccio was definitely a favorite for both myself and my boyfriend. The service was top-notch and we can’t wait to dine there again!! Highly recommend!
