Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Drexel Hill

I save "outstanding" for restaurants where there is a memorable dish, something I'll think about months or even years after I've eaten it. That's the mussels appetizer at Gran Cafe Aquila. They are so good, steamed in a spicy red sauce that I could eat as a soup. I've been getting to Philadelphia a few times a year lately and I always look forward to returning to this restaurant for the mussels. I think about them when I am not in Philadelphia, too. Everything else is good, too, sometimes great. We had the carbonara and caccio e pepe last night and both were delicious. Also a charming wait staff, perfect martini, great gelato and a nice little Italian market with lots of tempting treats to take home. It's not fancy or haute cuisine, just really good food in a fun, friendly atmosphere.

Good food great service and comfortable noise level

The food was very good, it was just very cold 🥶 inside especially since it's like 11° outside it definitely should have been alit warmer inside. Also only one waiter serving all the tables. Which he was awesome in dealing with all the tables. Overall good food. Was too cold tho. Def need the heat on inside.

This restaurant is worth the hype; be sure to make weekend reservations way in advance (they are strict about them). The meals come as small plates, and the waiter kindly equated the first grouping of plates to being appetizers, the second grouping as main courses, and the third as sides. My husband and I ordered the carpaccio portabello mushrooms and the roasted golden beets to start. Perfectly presented and the right meld of flavors in each. For the next courses, one dish out did the next. Meat eaters will not be disappointed. We finished with a small scoop of cherry sorbet with balsamic vinegar; be sure to give it a try. We look forward to going again the next time we are in Philly.
