LaGuardia Airport’s evolving glow-up just got a lot more enticing. Award-winning chef and humanitarian José Andrés announced he will open a 10,000-square-foot restaurant lounge in the shiny new Terminal B, on one of the airport skybridges. That means your tortilla española will come with views of the airfield and the Manhattan skyline.
Capital One Landing, a sprawling small plates spot that will pair tapas-style eating with bounty from American farms, is part of LaGuardia’s $8 million facelift (which began in 2016). The airport’s metamorphosis also includes new terminals, reimagined passenger spaces, and public art installations. Capital One Landing and Andrés have plans to land in some of the country’s other busiest airports, including Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Dulles International Airport, and Denver International Airport, by 2023.
LaGuardia’s Terminal B is already home to a slew of quintessentially New York spots such as Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, Junior’s Restaurant, Bar Veloce, and a McNally Jackson Bookstore.
Here’s some other food news you don’t want to miss this month:
- For a poignant read, pick up Top Chef contestant Fatima Ali’s posthumous memoir, Savor, which details her career in NYC restaurants, cut too short by a cancer diagnosis.
- New York City’s newest MICHELIN Stars were awarded on October 6. The city now has 73 starred restaurants, including newcomers such as Oiji Mi and Semma. Many beloved restaurants, including Bâtard and Aquavit, held on to their stars.
- The duo behind West Village trattoria Via Carota, Rita Sodi and Jody Williams, opened a specialty shop, Spazio Creativo, which doubles as a podcast studio, and is slated to host pop-ups, events, and more. Spazio Creativo is one of many NYC restaurants shifting in usage, and even concept, throughout the day.
- Williamsburg has a new 15,000-square-foot food hall, Williamsburg Market, opening to the public on November 4. The eclectic vendor lineup includes Alidoro Italian Sandwich Shop, Malai Ice Cream, Harlem Seafood Soul, and more.
