  • "The chicken confit was very good (a small helping though). The artichoke tortellini were disappointing, since they were filled with cheese (part ewe cheese). There were only a couple of very small pieces of artichoke on the side, so we felt that it should have been called cheese tortellini. It's a good restaurant, if you know what to order, and the bread is great. "

  • "My wife and I took her parents to Rioja's to treat them to a brunch like they've never had to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were amazed by the placement, look and taste of the food. It was an eating experience like they've never had. The entire staff took it upon themselves to all sign them a congratulatory card and supplied them a complimentary dessert. My wifes Mother ordered a strawberry and cocnut dessert that was so beautiful she didn't want to eat it. My wife said the look on her face was priceless. we will definately be back."

  • "I don't know how they do it, but every time I dine at Rioja, I leave with a wonderful feeling inside and out. The creativity and execution of the menu is spot on. I have never eaten anything here that is not only so mouthwatering delicious but leaves me wondering how did Chef come up with that. The service is seamless and attentive without being intrusive. Gavin was friendly, knowledgeable and truly excited about sharing his recommendations. Still the best restaurant in Colorado. Don't miss it!"

  • "Rioja - The Traveler's Review 1,350 The beet salad is colorful and highlights three different beets. The beets are not the highlight of the dish however, that honor goes to the smoked ricotta and pistachio purée combination. This will be a Traveler's Review top ten salad for 2014 nominee (see subscribers website for photos).The Cavatelli has an excellent aroma, but the Cavatelli themselves were a little undercooked and became a distraction. Service is average, not good. When I asked about the tasting menu, I really wasn't given the answer I wanted. I was ready to have the chef cook for me, after all it was one of my subscribers that asked me to review Rioja and specifically stated I had to try the tasting menu! "

  • "This was the first restaurant we ate at on our first weekend in Denver. It was within walking distance of the hotel. Larimer St is full of boutiques and other restaurants, but this was so good (service was like watching a ballet around us - they all helped each other serve the customers!) we went back again before leaving town!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times and always look forward to it but this time was my last. I know the reservations only hold a table for 15 minutes after stated time but we called as we were walking from the car to say we were on our way. When we arrived, quite literally, 16 minutes after our reservation so technically 1 minute "late", we were reprimanded for being late and told our table had been given away. Since the restaurant wasn't full, we were seated quickly so the dressing down was not necessary - wasn't necessary in any case. The food was fine, not outstanding as it has been in the past. The service was rapid but dismissive. Not worth the effort or the money."

  • "The service stands out at Rioja. We've been checking off the list of the 25 best restaurants in Denver and while most have good food; service can sometimes be lackluster. But not at Rioja. The service was excellent. The food was quite good as well; I had the lemon scallops which were perhaps a little lemony for my taste, but they were lemon scallops after all. My dining partner had the lamb which he thought was quite good. They also bring around freshly baked rolls while the entrees are being prepared, which was a nice touch. If I were to say anything, I just wish restaurants would not seat patrons right next to each other when there are open tables elsewhere, I understand that the waiters have a "section" but it would be nice to have space"

  • "Just picked my folks up from DIA for their first visit to Colorado and took them straight to Rioja. I can't believe they can afford to serve such wonderful and beautiful food at such low prices. The wait staff was professional and friendly and made sure we were taken care of. I strongly recommend the donut appetizer - trust me, I'm not a big donut eater but these were incredible and flavorful. Big hits were also their eggs benedict, the breakfast sandwich and the chicken confit. Even their OJ was something to brag about. So glad I found out about this place!"

The ambience was nice, but the tables were crammed in so closely to each other that your conversation and that of the table literally right next to you often became the same one. The wait staff could barely fit between the tables. I would go again because there is so food I would like to try, but I would sit at the bar because there is probably more room. The wait staff were absolutely fabulous!"

New and interesting menu choices, and the bread alone is still worth the price of admission--saffron slices, goat cheese biscuits, etc. The wine list had some excellent and inexpensive choices in both white and red wine by the glass--Brisa Do Mar, a lovely Portuguese dry white, and Parallel 45, a reliable French Rhone. The restaurant was crowded all night, and for good reason."

  • "We've been hearing about this Denver restaurant for years. We don't live in the city but finally had the opportunity to dine there. It was a wonderful meal. We will be back. They have wonderful breads, a great variety of food and the presentation is great. Even though we were full from bread, appetizers and entrees, we did order desserts. They were so tasty we ate them all up too. The wait staff is professional, helpful and friendly but not overly so. Note - best to make reservations."
