Perched directly above Lake Bonavista with large glass windows overlooking the lake, The Lake House is home to one of Calgary’s finest & most creative restaurants as well as a unique setting for private events & weddings. Exuding rustic elegance, the interior is illuminated with ornate elk antler chandeliers & a grand fireplace. The Lake House Ratings and Reviews
We went for a date and were pleasantly surprised by the range of choices on the menu.
Wine list had an array of selection and was very affordable.
All dishes were prepared perfectly, must have red seal experienced chefs.
Our waitress - Laura - was polite, so attentive and knowledgeable on all items in menu. Pleasure to be served by her.
Overall a great experience. Already recommended to other couples.
Another memorable experience at one of our favorite local places for a nice dinner. The food was exceptional as it usually is. The duck was the star of the evening this visit along with a rare Syrah that the somm suggested and it paired perfectly.
Once again we will be back. Keep up the great work!
Professional & friendly service, eye appealing & wonderful meals, plus our shared dessert. Did not feel rushed, so my friend & I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!
I will add that I was happy for the special of the day as I was a little disappointed with the lunch menu looking too similar to pub fare.
My guest and I went to The Lake House for lunch on a very cold winter weekday. We were greeted warmly, and the unique dining room lighting and gorgeous view of Lake Bonavista drew us into the dining room. Our servers were friendly and helpful, adding to our experience. The food was good, although my guest commented that she thought that the fries with her fish and chips were old. I enjoyed my soup and "quiche of the day" combination however I would have preferred to have had the soup served prior to the quiche, rather than plated together. By the time I got to eating my quiche, it was only lukewarm. We chose not to have dessert as tempting as the dessert menu was, as the entree portions are generous and we were nicely satisfied. Cappuccino was a delicious end to the meal. It was nicely busy at the restaurant, but the atmosphere was calm and sophisticated but not stuffy. The view of the snow and frozen lake, with sunshine beaming into the room enhanced what was a lovely lunch. I look forward to returning.
The menu is always creative and unique and the chefs prepare each meal wonderfully. I’ve always been impressed with the service and the food at Lake House each time we go.
We have dined as a couple and with our children here as they have a kids menu and high chairs available should you need them. The ambience is lovely. It was a little noisy this time, but it was a Friday evening and since we had our children with us, we were grateful for the extra chatter so we weren’t the noisy table. Save room for dessert - the peanut butter chocolate tart is to die for.
This was our fist time trying The Lake House and we enjoyed our evening very much and we would definitely recommend it as well as come back ourselves. I did find it expensive however, it was New Years Eve and everything is more expensive on this night. Food was amazing, everything was so flavourful and blended so well together. Having the set 5 course meal forced us to try foods we would never have ordered and we were pleasantly surprised. Thank you for a great night!
Overall 4 star dining experience Service was exceptional. Ambience was good, a bit noisy but then it’s New Years and the restaurant was very busy. It was a multicourse dinner with most courses good except the soup course was cool and the desert very mediocre. Price was $100 per person plus beverages which was expensive considering value.
Went on New Years Eve was able to snag reso for 2 at 6 on Open Table as a late decision to go out such a great app. Such a great evening with a 5 course special New Year’s Eve meal, if I could give 10 out of 10 for everything I would. Love love love the Lake House!
Outstanding Five Course Dinner for New Year's Eve at The Lake House!
This was our first visit to the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The set menu was superb and the service was excellent. Our feast included Wild Boar and Pistachio Pate, Smoked Tomato Bisque, and Butter Poached Lobster; the entree choices were Prosciutto Wrapped Pheasant Ballontine, the Grilled Bison Tenderloin, or the Pan Seared Sablefish. We chose the pheasant and bison, and both were succulent. Dessert was a lovely Opera Slice Cheesecake with Cherry Brandy Reduction. Wine pairings were also offered with each course, however we did not choose this option. We also enjoyed tasty post-dinner cappuccinos before taking our leave on a chilly NYE. We will definitely return and recommend to our family, friends and coworkers.
My husband and I went here for a romantic dinner but came out feeling flat on the food. Our waiter was exceptional, his knowledge to the menu was amazing.
But we found the appetizer and our main courses were cold and my tenderloin was over cooked. I think we could of made a better steak at home.
The restaurant itself is beautiful and the view was stunning especially on a winters evening.
This was our first time trying the brunch menu and it is was just as amazing as dinner! I had the duck croquettes and my husband had the eggs Benedict. They were both excellent! Service was great and the ambience was just right! Thanks for the great brunch date- we will definitely be back again.
This restaurant exceeded our high expectations. It is absolutely beautiful with a lovely lake view. The menu is very interesting & the 3 people in our group LOVED their meals, cold smoked lamb, salmon & Arctic char. Our seafood charcuterie was delicious & a creative idea. Service friendly & professional. Elegant dining room but quite noisy, that is the only area for improvement
We went out for my husbands birthday. We had a seat by the window which was beautiful and serene and romantic. My only issue was the menu which included mostly shellfish such as lobster, crab and shrimp. Since I have a severe shellfish allergy, there was little to choose from. However, our wonderful server kept checking to make sure that my stuffed chicken would be cooked separately to eliminate contamination.
My sons wedding was at Lakehouse 2 years ago and we could not have asked for better service, food and location. It was perfect. We had Arctic char, beef and a vegetable choice.
our server was attentive and friendly and engaging. It was a 65th and the dessert had Happy Birthday on a delicious slab of chocolate. Requested and received a window table. Uniquely, they had some Pappy bourbon, inherited from a now closed restaurant. being 65 and finishing the heel of a 23yr old Pappy was special. Three of us had the Rib eye, and I had the Arctic Car with scallops. Everybody enjoyed the ribeye, and I was pleased with my choice (usually a steak guy) and best of all the meals arrived hot. The Sommelier was on his game with a great selection.
Wonderful atmosphere with class and great service. Staff are extremely helpful and pleasant. The food was delicious and the right amount. Not overflowing like some places that make up for the taste by giving you too much. it is on the expensive side but this is a very classy restaurant and will return multiple times.
The food was excellent and overall we really enjoyed the experience. There were a couple of large groups, so it was quite loud and it's dark too early these days to take advantage of the view, so ambiance wasn't as good as it can be. It's fairly pricey, but I'd say that the food was worth it!
Wanted the ambience for Sunday Brunch, celebrating my friend's 70th birthday. Advice - arrive when they open or arrive after 1:00 pm, so you can get the tables with an unobstructed view. I asked for one on my reservation for 11:00, and they couldn't deliver. My friend only turns 70 once, so that was a bit of a disappointment.
Food was OK, but I actually expected better based on reviews by other friends who eat here as often as their budgets allow. I'd go back, but I'd try something other than the mixed grill. The tenderloin was superb; the rest was blah.
The service was close to faultless - which made up for much of the other misses on this visit. The wine menu seemed a little limited, but everything we tried (3 kinds) were delicious, so it obviously has what you need.
The peanut butter dessert item was yummy, but the pumpkin creme brulee just wasn't creamy enough. If you've had any of the brulee at the Petroleum Club (perfection), skip this one, because you'll be disappointed.
So it passes because of charm and service, but I can't wax poetic over the actual food. We'd have loved to be able to stroll around afterwards, but the lake is closed to outsiders. Also, with more than half the tables full, the noise level was substantial - no quiet conversations here. They really need some sound busting features up in those rafters.
Dinner and service was fantastic. Worth the drive. We loved the Lobster Agnolotti, and the Rocky Mountain Charcuterie Board. The Stuffed Chicken Supreme and the Grilled Angus Beef Ribeye were cooked perfectly, the chicken was nice and juicy, the steak was a perfect medium rare. For dessert the Sticky Toffee pudding was perfect for two and was lovely. The personalized chocolate with Happy Anniversary was a special surprise. A wonderful food experience, atmosphere was perfect for our date.
