About Smuggler's Inn
Originally established in 1967, Smuggler's Inn has been serving Alberta prime rib to several generations. Always a popular place for Calgarians to gather and celebrate, we are the preferred dining choice for birthdays, anniversaries, milestones or just meeting friends and family. Our prime rib is the main feature of our diverse menu, available all day, every day any way you like it. From a 9oz. prime rib sandwich, all the way up to a 48oz cut, our succulent prime rib is sure to please any appetite. Cajun blackened is always a popular choice, as is adding a lobster tail or side of garlic shrimp. Of course there is a creative selection of steaks, chicken and seafood to satisfy everyone. With a soup and salad bar included with every entree, not many guests leave hungry, but it would be a great idea if you saved room for one of our delicious desserts...even if you plan on sharing.

Smuggler's Inn Ratings and Reviews
Those is our favorite place for a streak/ prime rob dinner. Our waitress was on the ball and very friendly. Actually all the staff eye great. Prefer this over the keg any day (price is almost the same for a prime rib, and it included a salad and soup bar. )
Loved the fact there was a salad bar, don't see them anymore anywhere. Could have had a few meat elements though. Access to the salad bar wasn't the best but because we didn't arrive during the dinner crunch it wasn't a congested corridor. Absolutely fantastic bison sirloin steak, best I've ever had. The potato was a disappointment considering the cost. The accompaniments would have been better to be able to self serve out of a small tray of selected items rather than the server put them on. Also, the fact that my wife is allergic to broccoli and when a substitute of carrot was asked for and not available or allowed was very disappointing. Then to offer only asparagus only but we would have to pay extra for it was a total turnoff. What kitchen couldn't or wouldn't want to allow for an alternative? But, the dessert I had was quite delicious. The server was attentive, friendly, but maybe because the shift may have just started it felt like he was missing some of his serving etiquette no offer of tea or coffee, something just felt off. Oh, the original chair I sat in was very uncomfortable in the upper back, had to change chairs. The bison, salad bar and dessert were the highlights and will probably entice me to go back for another round with a guest from out of town just because I want him to try the bison. Because of there location the menu over all is quite pricey but if I didn't like it after looking at it online,
I shouldn't have gone.
We went for my boyfriend’s birthday and our server, Michelle was very nice and accommodating. I phoned in ahead to request for a cake with my boyfriend’s name written with chocolate syrup on the plate. They did a wonderful job! Overall, my boyfriend and I had such a lovely dinner. Food was as always, amazing!
4 of us met for dinner. Table was in a great spot (in the far corner past the salad bar). Emily was our waitress and she was excellent. She looked after us very well and was very good at timing the various aspects of our dinner, as well as checking to see if things were 'as they should be'.
3 of us had the prime rib and fully enjoyed it. We ordered it medium rare, but Emily point out that medium on the prime rib was equal to medium rare. That was a good suggestion from her.
Salad bar was very good, enjoyed the soup and variety of items for the salad plate. The broccoli could have been cooked a bit more for my liking as the stems were a bit hard to chew. Overall it was a very good night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Smugglers is looking tired and needs a face lift. The salad bar is not worth the trip although my fellow diners did like the soup. Portions are way too large but unless the price is lowered to match smaller portions it would be overpriced, so I guess that means you can have left overs. It’s been ages since I was there and it hasn’t changed a bit although presentation is sloppy. The mains still taste delicious though.
The food was average a little pricey. The French onion soup was awful, very greasy and had no flavor. The seating was terrible, they have you sitting so close together I thought we were sitting with the same next to us. No privacy at all.
Overall this restaurant is slowly getting worse, that’s too bad it use to be one of the go to places.
Hadn't been to Smugglers to eat for approx 10 yrs. Was disappointed with the food. Namely the salad bar. Everything was wilted and old. Tomato salad had hair in it. Bins were half empty. Not the salad bar we remember. Steaks were quite good, not excellent. Service was respectable. Ambience is okay. Restaurant doesn't look like it has seen a renovation in at least 10 years.
We went at Christmastime, which can be the busiest time for restaurants understandably and yet our server was attentive and the table the restaurant gave us was phenomenal (quiet in the back by a fireplace). Hence why I rated my overall experience as very good. Food wise though....I have been spoiled on cruises so when I heard there was a salad bar I was quite excited; but it is a very plain salad bar and as the name suggests it is a solid salad bar with three soups, crackers, and approx 3 choices of bread (with butter, margarine or oil and vinegar to choose from).
The prime rib was a huge cut of meat with awesome herbed potatoes but the meat itself wasn't as tender as I had hoped and the au jus had a gravy style consistency, the "hot" horseradish was your regular garden variety BUT all in all a solid meal-nothing to brag about and the experience overall was fun and they do a complimentary birthday mud pie which was fantastic.
I haven't been here for many, many years but will definitely be returning. Our waiter, Ryan was outstanding in his service and charm. The food was delicious on the most part. We loved the fact that we could talk and didn't feel like people were right next to us listening . It had a warm and inviting atmosphere.Loved the big chairs and private booths. Great evening.
Overall the food was just ok, but the vegetables that came with the mail was very disappointing. It appeared to be heated up coleslaw as opposed to a true vegetable side. The filet was ordered as medium rare and arrived as medium.
We've frequented Smuggles often in the past, but this meal was a real let down and not at the standard delivered by Smugglers in the past.
Four of us went for brunch on a Saturday. Very nice selection of hot and cold food items, as well as a great dessert selection. Started with breakfast regulars (waffles, bacon, sausage, real chunky potato hash browns and yummy eggs benny) and moved to lunch and sweets (creme brûlée, Flan, butter tarts, cheese cake, cookies, choc cake...oh and whipped cream!!). Omlette-station lady was great...so friendly and accommodating!! And who doesn't love a huge bowl of whipped cream, with waffles, cakes, in coffee!!
It is a buffet so most hot food does sit in warmers, but all items we had were fresh and replenished quickly. Basically one meal and done for the day...so much food!!
Senior discount for those 65 and more life-experienced.
Filling this in is a waste of time. I left a polite detailed message of the meal I had 3 weeks ago at Smugglers and even left my number in hopes of hearing a response. I wasn't looking for anything free or money back but having been a long time customer of Smugglers I somewhat expected some response.
Smugglers is my favourite place for prime rib. My wife and I both had prime rib but it was really quite under-done as opposed to what we had requested. My brother had ordered bison and was very happy with his meal.
We have been to Smugglers many times over the last 20 years and know that there can be "ups and downs" with their meals. However that has not deterred us from attending there on occasion and certainly this mediocre experience will not either.
Good service and my teriyaki steak was excellent. However, my mom's pot roast was inedible due to beef that was like shoe leather. The waiter brought some new meat, but it was not much better. Perhaps just an off night as I expect more from this favorite place of mine.
