Excellent: hot goat cheese, tomato dip and giant crab cake.
Dip and humus have very good bread, cracker selection. Humus has nice veggies, also.
Apps are quite large.
Not good: one beer on draft, very expensive wine prices $17 for Kim Crawford or similar wines that cost $10 bottles and similar.
Bad: beet hummus.

Service is great.
Space is old school, lame.

Really not that great for the prices charged. Server was mediocre at best. Had the wedge salad. It was a half of a head of lettuce and that was about it. Had steak with it that was $18.00 in addition to the salad. Was not cut, just a piece of meat on the side. . .

The service was slow and surly as there appeared to be one server for the entire place.
When i ordered rare prime rib i was told the closest was medium rare. There was no apology not even when we opted to go elsewhere for dinner.

On our 40th anniversary, we decided to stay overnight at the Brown Palace and enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Ship Tavern. This is a great hotel!

The Crab Cake is excellent; the Veggie Pasta is mediocre; the prices are outrageous; the noise level is high; it is not a cozy atmosphere; took forever to get the initial glass of wine; then the service was extremely rushed—didn’t finish the appetizer before main course arrived; had to ask for table ware; etc, etc. I felt sorry for the waiter, who seemed to do his best.

Had the opportunity to dine here during Thanksgiving Day. Service was fast and prompt, an exemplary example of the Brown Palace’s employees as a whole. The seafood chowder was delicious with generous portions of clams. The prime rib was cut in excellent portions and the au jus was very flavorful. The prime rib was definitely noteworthy and easily rivaled that of Lawry’s or other famous prime rib restaurants. The bread was also unique and delicious. The roll was composed of two different bread type halves and was used for sopping the remaining au jus and juices from the meat. Definitely worth coming here, I will certainly be back.

Thanksgiving dinner, the usual turkey and fixings. All delicious and the portions were generous. I'd do it again.

Felt a little pressured to turnover the table after about 45 minutes though they advised 90 minutes limit because of Covid. For $45/plate of standard Thanksgiving fare, would’ve liked to relax. Still, second time we’ve eaten a major holiday meal at the Tavern and the ambience & service made it worthwhile.

We ordered the prime rib medium rare. Steak had no pink in it and server agreed it was way overcooked. Nothing was done about it, for $50/steak I feel like they should be cooked correctly. The atmosphere was nice.

Bartender did not have ingredients to make a basic mojito drink… It’s a common drink that wasn’t available at this place. No specialty drink prices so was taken back when a Mai tai showed up $16 in a rock glass.

Brought my dad for a special 89th birthday lunch. Typical scenario… not enough staff. One guy was serving the entire restaurant, and it was his first day on the job. We felt sorry for him and was Uber patient with the slow service. Food was good. Nothing special. Overall we will return but boy every restaurant is enduring so much of the same issues. It’s tough.

The Clam Chowder had lumps of flour and was super thick. Perhaps the Chef should taste his soup before serving it.

No sauce was served with the Crab Cake & had to ask for some.

Pre-pandemic used to do a lot of business lunches at Ships Tavern. First time back since 2019. Unfortunately the clam chowder was mostly a floury paste. The side salad was limp lettuce and could not taste any ranch dressing. My colleague got the cheese steak sandwich and was nice enough not to complain. Asked for bread, asked again and was told "there is no bread". Had to ask for iced tea refills. Freezing cold at table. This abysmal food and service is not at all on par with what the Brown Palace provided consistently before. The tab of $48 plus $10 tip results in no value what so ever. Pretty embarrassing for me as took out colleague for a birthday lunch.

Prompt attention when seated. Soups were served hot. Crab cake was cold but loaded with meat; it was ordered with a side of cocktail sauce which didn't come. The other thing that didn't come was the server. Had to almost go find him. AND, can you believe the Brown Palace doesn't have any cocktail sauce! (I can't!) Never got asked if everything was alright or did we need more beverage...poor

The Prime Rib was over cooked. They were out of Baked potatoes and was basically told to deal with it from the waiter. Maybe could have offered a replacement meal. Cool room but food and service needs some help.

The waitress was friendly and helpful. We went there specifically for the prime rib. We, a party of three, were seated promptly at 7:00 (when we arrived, 15 minutes prior to our reservation). We all ordered the prime rib, two with a larger cut. All three ordered it rare - me saying I wanted my meat rare - dark red to purple rare. The waitress said they had no purple, but did have rare. The dinner came - the baked potatoes were slightly undercooked and lukewarm. My wife's prime rib was on the medium-rare side of rare, what she ordered. My prime rib was closer to medium than it was to rare. My daughter's was medium rare. We complained about the potatoes and the rib. The waitress brought us new potatoes which were slightly undercooked, but hot. They were good, not great. The waitress spoke to the manager who came to our table. I showed him my cut of prime rib and he said he would get me a rare piece of beef. He came back shortly saying that there was no rarer meat. It was shortly after 7 and they had no rare prime rib. He was very apologetic, but said there was no other prime rib that was cooked that was rarer. He asked me if I wanted a discount. I said yes, whatever he could do. He did give us a discount on the meat, but it was significantly less than the cost of my dinner. We have gone to the Ship Tavern over the last five years specifically because the prime rib was the best we had eaten. But over the last two years, the prime rib has not been prepared as well as it was in the past. It is unlikely that we will return to the Ship Tavern given that we have had a disappointing and a very disappointing evening there. The prime rib is not what it used to be.

We celebrate our anniversary at the Ships Tavern in the Brown Place nearly every year. We had our very 1st dinner as a married couple there 20 yrs ago. I'd like to say that this year was just as wonderful as previous years but it was not.

When making our reservation I stated that it was our anniversary and was greeted with a happy anniversary-good start. The service could have been better. The waitress was just checking the boxes and was not even aware of our anniversary.

However, the main issue was the food. We ordered clam chowder and prime rib. The clam chowder was severely over salted and the prime rib was a bit chewy and bland.

I told my husband that we need to go to another restaurant to celebrate our 20th anniversary next weekend to overcome our very disappointing experience. It was not up to their usual standards.

My complain is mostly about the food.
The Cheese and Charcuterie Board as an appetizer was very good.
However, our main entree was served way before we finsihed our appetizer. My wife's Halibut was dried out, and my steak, ordered medium, was more than well done. It also was served on top of a huge portion of french fries. In afterthought, we should have rejected the meals, but did not want to cause a scene.
