Originally from Mexico City, Chef Fernando Olea, formerly Chef of Epazote, has been enthralling diners in Santa Fe since 1991. Chef Olea creates sophisticated flavors using Old Mexico’s indigenous and culinary traditions alongside ingredients from around the world. His menu is deliberately small, featuring fresh and locally sourced produce and meats when possible.

Nothing evokes the mystery of Mexican cuisine more than mole, a sauce of complex flavors that usually includes toasted and ground spices, seeds, nuts, chocolate and chile. Many mole recipes contain more than thirty ingredients and some recipes have five varieties of chile alone. Chef Olea is delighted to share his moles that include his "New Mexican Mole" that he created to commemorate Santa Fe’s 400 year anniversary in 2009. The large mural in the main dining room, was painted and presented to Chef Olea by Federico Leon De La Vega, a well- known artist from Mexico City.

Great food though the restaurant seemed a bit close for required social distancing. The staff was attentive without hanging over us and the food was exquisite. Not unexpectedly wine was quite expensive or maybe they only serve the expensive ones,

We had a great experience dining at Sazon. The service is top-notch and the food is fantastic. The grasshopper tacos appetizer is very good and a unique experience. The mole specials all sounded good - but we had the lamb chops with the orange Santa Fe mole. The flavor was great and the lamb was cooked perfectly. Don't miss their great cocktail list and sangrias -- everything is very good here. You can even buy a jar of your favorite mole to take home!

Sazon met the lofty expectations we had. Chef Fernando Olea is a master at taking old school Mexican flavor and elevating them to an amazing level, without losing what makes Mexican food so amazing. Fantastic. The Poblano crema sopa was mystifying! My advice would be to go with whatever Chef Olea recommends, he wont lead you astray.

What a fabulous experience. The many 4-5 star reviews are accurate for a reason - Sazon was by far our favorite meal in Santa Fe. Cozy fireplace and ambiance indoors and multiple air filters plugged in with tables ample distance apart, so we also felt safe dining inside. Food was delicious, creative, and very elegantly presented. Definitely worth making Sazon something to look forward to when we return!

We had the chef’s degustacion for our anniversary and everything was exceptional from start to finish. Impeccable service, very polished, friendly, knowledgeable, and unpretentious. The courses and wine pairings were obviously thought out, curated, and prepared with skill, creativity, and a deep love of Mexican cuisine as well as a couple of delightful culinary offshoots. Best of all, Chef Fernando Olea himself came to check on us briefly at the start, middle, and end of our meal to ensure everything was to our liking. His modesty, graciousness, and passion for cooking were heartwarming and made us feel as welcome and cared for as family. We will be back.

The ambiance was fine and the food was ok. But they charged me $85 for a macallan 18. The price should have been no more than $18 a drink. I never say anything but it was so outrageous I objected and they took one off the bill. I had 3 so they charged me $170 for 3 which is just outrageous. I will never go again. It was a rip off. Be careful

Even at 25% capacity it was great to be back inside Sazon. Chef and the staff were up to their usual high standards of service. The moles were as good as our memories. The creativity in the kitchen is amazing. Glad to be here again.

Fantastic! Everyone was welcoming and kind from the get-go. Chef Fernando stopped by our table and made sure we were having an excellent experience. It was easy to tell how much love and care went into every dish we ate and every cocktail we drank. Will definitely make it a point to visit when we head back to Santa Fe and I will also recommend this place to anyone I know that heads there.

WOW!!! We have travelled around the world and have had our share of amazing experiences, but we have to say our night out at Sazon was one of the best!! We celebrated our 29th anniversary there and were doted over the minute we walked in. We were moved to the best table, our server was exceptional, servers were waiting to take away plates and meet your every need! The owner/chef was attentive both to his guests and employees...

The food was AMAZING, so different... we were blown away! We were even brought a beautiful dessert on the house and it wasn't just a piece of cheesecake(: Thank you for such a over the top experience, we will be back!!!!

We went to Sazon to celebrate our anniversary. It was a world-class experience. The staff was so cordial and congratulatory of our anniversary. They checked multiple times if we were happy with our table and gave great recommendations for food & drinks. The food was on par with the top restaurants around the globe. The flavors were complex -- truly wonderful. Each course was exceptional. It was a true culinary delight.

Interesting food choices like grasshoppers, bone marrow, different Moles to try and accompany different proteins. Decent wine menu and many tequila cocktails and latin spins on classics. Service was perfect. I ordered the wrong things and cannot recommend the "Cholula" which is not a layered "tower" of chilis and meats as described; it is presented like it came from a tuna fish can and is a small mound of meats, nuts and chilis. Quite unappetizing and off-putting texture. I also felt the soup of poblano and crab was unbalanced due to too much amaretto and something very burnt and bitter.

I appreciate the creativity and intent, but my dishes were big misses and I left hungry and disappointed.

What a perfect choice for our fancy dinner out while visiting Santa Fe. The food is incredibly imaginative and delicious. 4 types of mole (which I normally would never order) paired with protein of your choice. Add that to the standard menu and various specials. Fresh and fantastic. Highly recommend if you want a totally different experience.

Reserved an outside table for 4 on 10/22 and were placed inside by a very rude host in a black and white jacket who insisted we were wrong and that there was no room outside even though it was quite empty. Not a good experience - as we love Sazon - but not the staff treatment on that evening - very chaotic.

Great food and drinks. Everything we ordered was top-notch. Loved the mole with duck breast and the chef's innovative version of chile nogada was the best we've ever had. Shrimp appetizer was also outstanding. The staff did a great job with Covid precautions and we felt very safe and comfortable eating on the terrace. All in all a wonderful evening.

This restaurant really has it all. Beautiful art and music that enhances the ambience, servers who are very well trained and are excellent, and the food is consistently excellent. They have gone out of their way with COVID changes to make diners feel secure. Air cleaners help circulate air, gloves and masks on all staff, plexiglass and hand sanitizer upon entering. Excellent experience.

The food, ambiance, and service was great. I just wish they would be transparent about the market price for the fish upfront. $57 for fish wasn’t something I was willing to pay for if I had known beforehand.

Wonderful dinner on our honeymoon. The initial mole tasting was unique and a great way to introduce special menu items. Both the halibut and the tuna were superb.

The patio dining was not very comfortable. They have cheap Walmart outdoor chairs that are very uncomfortable. The heaters can't be moved closer to the tables so it's cold. I had the halibut and it was mediocre, especially considering the cost - $55. We are trying to support the local restaurants during Covid but Sazon is nowhere close to what they were pre-Covid.

Spent my birthday weekend in Santa Fe and discovered this restaurant and knew I had to have a birthday dinner here! The service, atmosphere and food were incredible. It was an amazing experience that I hope to return to again one day!

Delicious. I love the introduction to mole', a sampler platter with small tortillas and 4 types of mole sauce so you can taste and chose which sauce you'd like for the evening. Best meal I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Excellent service, food and value!
