About the restaurant

Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

We look forward to your visit.

Absolutely the best soft shell crab I have ever eaten. Do not pass it up! We also had the crabmeat au gratin for appetizer and had so much lump crabmeat in it. Served with buttered crostinis and the 3 of us had to slow down so we had room for the soft shell crab show. My husband and daughter had the soft shell crab sandwich and had seafood gumbo and a soft shell crab a La carte. Holy moly this was an amazing experience!! This restaurant is off the beaten path but so worth the drive. Lunch for 3 was $105 no cocktails.

I've eaten here before so i can't figure out why this visit was so lackluster.. The venue was fine, the service was great as usual. The food was questionable not the freshness but its presentation. Other times I've been here, I've had GREAT experiences. I just think some decisions need to be made to improve what's served and how it's presented at this pricepoint.

Male Waiter didn’t come by often. Ambiance, food was great. I would love if they added special pancakes to the menu. AC drips from ceiling. Watch that sometimes it drips on tables and floors. In NO that’s normal.

About the restaurant
It’s been that way since Drago & Klara Cvitanovich opened our restaurant in 1969. They set out to offer delicious seafood and a good time to guests for a reasonable price. At that time, they couldn’t even imagine how many guests that would become.

Today it’s still a family atmosphere. Klara is still at the front to greet our guests. Tommy Cvitanovich, Drago and Klara’s son, is there to see that things run smoothly.

Thank you for choosing Drago’s Seafood Restaurant at Hilton New Orleans Riverside for your dining experience. We don’t accept reservation, however, walk-ins are always welcome to join us. Hope to see you soon!

I ordered the Mediterranean Redfish at Drago’s, and it was easily the highlight of my meal. The fish was perfectly cooked — flaky, tender, and full of flavor. Topped with a light blend of tomatoes, olives, capers, and herbs, it had that perfect Mediterranean brightness that didn’t overpower the freshness of the fish. The seasoning was well-balanced, and the sauce brought just the right touch of acidity and depth. It felt like a lighter, elevated option without sacrificing bold flavor. Paired with their sides and solid service, this dish is proof that Drago’s does more than just charbroiled oysters — though you might still want to start with a few of those too! Definitely a dish I’d order again.
