Me and my boyfriend came here for brunch, the environment was very nice and clean, and the staffs were friendly. Food was delicious, we shared the mushroom tart and Turkey pot pie. The reason I gave 4 stars because I found the Turkey pot pie was a bit salty but it was still very good. If I was only having the mushroom tart, I would give it 5 stars for sure. After having the first bite of the mushroom tart, I know this place is gonna be one of my favorite spot for brunch and definitely will come back. And now I am interested in trying their dinner.
Chef’s Tasting Menu was wonderful. Very good service. A little noisy due to a large group sitting nearby, and a little chilly being seated near the windows in the winter.
The room is beautiful. Mixture of rustic and mountain/river feel. Fantastic staff and superb food quality.
The River Cafe was a great spot for a date night. We ordered the Chef's Tasting Menu and everything was delicious. The food and atmosphere was worth it. I would definitely recommend the River Cafe to friends and family.
As always the unique venue is really the draw: place the restaurant anywhere in Calgary except Prince Island, and I'm not sure it would remain in business more than a month.
We had a late guest showing up 20 minutes after our 6 pm reservation. It took another 10 minutes for staff to offer drinks? Why not just offer before his arrival? Then drink refills seemed slow.
Eventually, orders were taken. I was assured Octopus would be tender. It was rubbery, as expected in Alberta: I wondered why it was on the menu???
Pork was OK, but came with an unbalanced accompaniment of Red Fife Wheat, almost making it a breakfast cereal! I guess chef was trying to rid the kitchen of the dry, chewy stuff, but more Okanagan Pear and parsnips would have been appreciated!
In a final note: I specifically asked for a QUIET table when making the reservation, and was assured that two tables were set off for just such occasions. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant, in the LOUDEST location!!??
Love, love the setting & decor..the snow outside made the ambiance even better! The food was delicious as always. Our server was very friendly, seemed a bit service 'stretched' as he was also trying to manage a large group seating as well as individual tables.
Best eggs Benedict we've ever had.
Everything was fabulous!
The restaurant was great and the food was presented very well. I personally hated the coffee, but the waitress was very polite and offered to bring me something different. I would probably not go there again because the food was not suitable for my taste, but it might be just my opinion. I honestly wish I liked the food better, because everything else was so wonderful.
We were so impressed. Was our first time here and we will be back again to try dinner menu.
Was a great date lunch with my girlfriend. Service was really good, such as the food and ambience.
Fantastic on all accounts
Pumpkins pudding is kind of too sweet for me. But the scenic view outside the window is really beautiful.
Perfect cozy breakfast spot. Not too loud and not too busy!
Best dining experience in Calgary.
We enjoyed our dinner but the night was made by our server Mike. Amazing drive for service and open to questions. Thanks Mike
Our waiter Mike was exceptional. Very attentive and did not try up selling us booze after we were done our meal.
Came here to celebrate a birthday. The waiter and rest of staff were great as well as the ambiance.
We ordered the bison tar tar, squash soup, goose main, and steak main dishes.
I highly recommend the bison tar tar, squash soup, and goose main dish as these were delicious.
I forget what type of beef steak they were serving tonight but it was a disappointment. The meat was extremely chewy and the quality wasn't there despite being cooked to a nice medium rare.
Overall a pleasant experience
We have dined at the river cafe many times. This last visit was very disappointing. Our server was never around. Servers from other tables helped us more than she did we ordered 3 bone in spare ribs. We were told they were out of bone in but could serve us spare ribs without bones. I personally had the tenderloin and it was good. My friend Wayne ate his spare rib even though it was quite fatty. My wife and Judy could not eat their spare ribs as they were just to fatty. The river cafe did comp us 2 of the rib meals. Thank you for that. This was Judy's first time at your restaurant and she was polite about what she thought but you could tell the way she ate that she was very disappointed after all the bragging we had done about the River Cafe. At this point I am not sure if I will dine at your facility again. It bothers me to say these things but I was very disappointed compared to all the other great meals and evenings that we have spent in the River Cafe.
The food was fantastic, service and ambiance were exceptional. Although they offered homemade rice crisps as an alternative it would be great if some sort of GF bread option was offered with brunch.
It was very quiet on the Sunday. It is a beautiful venue. My Turkish style eggs were ok. I did not find them very flavourful. I had a side of bacon which was quite delicious. My two friends, one had eggs benny and she said it was very good. The other had fresh farm eggs any style, although she did not finish it, the dish was very good. The drinks were fine a little sweet for me. The coffee was excellent.
I was impressed with burger. I was TOLD they cook their meat to slightly pink, I requested just cooked through, it came pink. The bun was very dry. My husband had Turkey pie and it was not very tasty.
Prices way too high for the food that one gets. Service was moderate, very disappointing for a restaurant such as this. Waitress never once came to top up our water. Very impatient to collect our money when we finished our meal. I would never return.
Empty restaurant, only sat in section by washrooms. Disappointing with the beautiful living room and fire place seatings all free during Sunday brunch. Server seemed annoyed by having to serve us
Krista was great! Always checking on us and topping up our bevvies
We came for a birthday dinner, we have been trying to eat dinner at River Cafe for a couple of years but almost every time we want to go it is booked for a private event. We did the 6 course Chef's Tasting Menu. We really enjoyed it, the flavors were really good. The only part of the meal we did not enjoy was the dessert.
The drinks were good and the ambiance is nice. This would be a good place to come to in the summer.
Always a favorite...in the park - can't be beat. As soon as you walk in you are hit with that warm scent of the wood smoke and know the meal is going to be full of flavor and richness.
River Cafe is hard to beat. The location on Princes Island, the gorgeous patio, the rustic decor and architecture, and the food is simply amazing.
Food took forever to come out. Over an hour, and the place was not even that busy. Service was ok, but it could be better.
Loved what we ordered. But maybe some sandwiches and soup would be a good addition for lunch.
We eat at River Cafe often for the ambience, location, and tasty food.
Spectacular dinner. Great ambience, superb service & wonderful food.
The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. The staff was very accommodating and very knowledgeable with regard to food and wine.
I'd love to check all the boxes that could apply, but I've only been to The Cafe twice - I can only imagine it would be very good, as was our experience.
Food was ok. The charcuterie platter was great. Service was average but expect a long wait for food on a slow night. It took us 2 hours for a 3 course meal.
We go there every year for thanksgiving and it’s always such a special treat . The turkey dish is always cooked perfectly and tasty. The service is always outstanding.
We haven't dined at the River Cafe in some time so I was really looking forward to eating there. It was just my 9 year old daughter and I. I was so disappointed, and I'm sorry I didn't tell the staff immediately that day. The children's brunch menu has three items on it scrambled eggs French toast and cheese flatbread. Where are the pancakes and waffles? A very slim selection indeed. We ordered off the regular brunch menu for my daughter. We chose the $21 burger, modified to just cheese and ketchup on it. The burger turned out to be quite pink in the center. I told our server and she said that the very aged beef and it was supposed to cook like that. I accepted that reason but my daughter never ate the rest of the burger. I should have insisted and I wished that the server could have been more in tune with children and readily taken the burger to be cooked some more. The side of veggies for my daughter included raw green beans. I don't know any adults who eat raw green beans, let alone children. My turkey pot pie and side salad( greens) was even worse. Again, I readily said it was fine when the server asked. Not sure what the wafer top was all about and the thin sauce with chewy turkey and underdone potatoes left much to be desired. The salad was wilty and very small. Not worth the $22. Overall, I think this restaurant needs needs a dusting( not sure what's hanging from the ceiling) a new chef and menu. We won't be coming back or recommending the River Cafe.
Continues to be a great place. My favourite restaurant.
Wonderful weekend brunch in a cozy environment.
We love River Cafe! Job well done team. Thank you for making my birthday brunch a lovely memory. I was full for hours and content with both the service and the experience - as usual.
