Everything was just OK. The food was mediocre - not worth the price in my opinion. Good handmade pasta but the appetizers (Mussels and beef carpaccio) weren't good or worth the money. The service was very slow - and not in a good Italian-dining-experience kind of way. The server was extremely busy and rushed through our orders/questions. I understand it is difficult when it is busy/understaffed but we were often left without water/wine and it felt like we were just waiting around for him to come by the whole night- we were in a very visible spot by the expo station and he would ignore our glances or attempts to get service. When you are paying a large price for a dining experience (Over $200 for a meal) diners expect a better service experience. The restaurant seemed to have regular customers who got better treatment. This was a birthday celebration for my partner, and I was hoping to find a new pasta joint - but everything was just OK. I wouldn't come back when there are so many other places to go.

We weren't seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time, which made it quite late to be eating

Had a great experience at Lo Stella. Our waitress Virginia was fantastic and went over and above to provide amazing service. The warmth of the restaurant was also great. Will definitely be returning to try other options on the menu.

Filet mignon and bolognese were both predictably excellent, as was the service. Lo Stella never disappoints!

Excellent authentic Italian food with normal size portions. This is our third time here and they have always been great. They ran out of Pesto (which means it is fresh) so I will be back to check that out.

The filet was melt in your mouth delicious. The ravioli special was filled with flavor. My veal piccata was tender and the side dish of spinach was the best I've ever had in a restaurant. This is our favorite place to go out in Denver and we've never been disappointed.

Lo Stella Ristorante in Denver has the closest flatbread I've ever had at any restaurant to my great grandmother Amelia Solari Firpo's, Gram's "firgassa" as she called it (local Ligurian dialect “fugassa”, "figassa" in Genoese dialect). It kind of looks and tastes like Gram made it, which is not surprising since her mother was Angela Torre Solari, who we think came over about 1885 from Chiavari, a Ligurian town 12 miles south of Portofino! Lo Stella Ristorante is the oldest and most successful family owned restaurant operation in Portofino, Italy. It is one of the country’s most renowned historic family owned and operated restaurants since 1850. Since 2013, downtown Denver is home to this historically famed Italian restaurant, led by an 8th generation family member, Alessandro Polo. I recommend this Denver restaurant, since it is not just the bread that is fantastic!

We had a lovely experience at Lo Stella. Atmosphere was beautiful and festive, host made you feel like family in Italy, and the food was delicious! Excellent service, parking in front, and minutes away from the Denver Art Museum by foot. YOU MUST TRY THIS PLACE! Great for special occasions or a nice meal out.

We came to the restaurant for a special event and after reading the reviews was quite disappointed. The prices based on both the quality ( being half Italian I definitely expected it to taste better) and more importantly the quantity of food ( incredibly small portions) was ridiculous and outrageously priced for what we received on all our meals. While the GM was nice, the wait staff was fair and not overly attentive. It was a very expensive okay meal at best, sorry.

We were mainly looking for a restaurant near the art museum, so that we could go to the exhibit and only park once. When you walk in it seems so nice, and the owner is so nice and welcoming that you are excited for a great meal. The menu does seem sort of expensive, if you were to get every course, but you know that you certainly wouldn't eat that much, so you should pick and choose. However, it turns out that the portions are so small that you do want more. Thus it does turn out to be pretty expensive, but you came for a great dinner with friends, so whatever. That would have been OK if the food was really good, but some dishes were OK, and some just weren't very good. The ravioli in walnut sauce was pretty bad, and there were only a few of them. Our ravioli in seafood sauce was some better, but the few of them were pricey. It was disappointing, but it seemed to have such potential. Having been in Italy it seems that even the smallest basic restaurant has good tasting food. Is it that hard to make food taste good?

I am italian. And denver is lacking in great authentic italian cuisine. Lo Stella’s is a gem. We will be back for sure. You know each dish was made with the extra care from fresh homemade pasta to great sauces. And carefully prepared meats and fish.

We really enjoy coming to Lo Stella. The food is authentic and reminds us of local family haunts in Italy. The staff and owners are very friendly and it’s fun to find out how they prepare different dishes. The Nutella & Vodka was a surprise hit.

Four friends met at Lo Stella for our annual dinner together. The intimate setting was perfect for getting reacquainted. We could actually hear each other talk. The menu is varied, the food was excellent, and the service was perfect. We may decide to hold our annual get-together here every year.

We had a lovely dinner at Lo Stella. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. The appetizers (caprese and mussels) were toothsome. We had pasta bologonese and a lamb special. Both were delicious. We’ll definately return to try more items.

The house salad was large and reasonably priced but contained only lettuce and a couple tasteless tomatoes. Waiter did not give us any choice on the dressing. The dressing it came with seemed to be just oil. Fortunately there was balsamic vinegar on the table which I kept adding to give it flavor. I ordered the Veal Scallopini with Marsala sauce for I believe $26 - $28. The plate contained three reasonable size pieces of veal, a handful of lettuce with no dressing and my choice of side, sautéed mushrooms. The veal and mushrooms were somewhat tasty but it wasn't a very satisfying meal. The other side option was mashed potatoes. I wish the entree had also come with a vegetable and also that pasta had been a choice of sides. The waiter said pasta wasn't a choice as pasta is what the restaurant is known for and if I wanted pasta that's what I should order. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed so we rarely saw our waiter and had to flag him down to pay. The wines by the glass are limited but wines on the list are a good value. I doubt that I will go back but if I did I'd only go for the pasta however while I love pasta, all the pastas come with a red sauce and prefer other options.

We frequently dine at Lo Stella, and as always this visit did not disappoint.
It's has a nice, cozy atmosphere and is a great place to take friends. Location in the Golden Triangle and near the Denver Art Museum makes it convenient too. The service is wonderful, and staff knowledgeable and accommodating.

I love this place. My wife and I have been here three times in the past 12 months. We went this past weekend for her birthday with friends. A family business. We had Leo wait on us and one word - authentic. He recommends the best dishes and pairs with amazing wines. Their food is some of the best Italian in Denver. Can't recommend enough.

Family run (from Portofino, Italy).......outstanding service (especially the Daughter Virginia). She is not only a cutie pie.....but very sweet and takes the time to explain anything you want. Very attentive service. AND the food is amazing....especially anything with red sauce. Finally, the prices are VERY reasonable. Tremendous food and value!

This was the second time I've been to Lo Stella and the second time that they have been out of several of the items on the menu. I specifically went for the Pesto which I was informed they were out of. Ordered the walnut ravioli instead - very disappointing. My son and husband both had the Bolognese and were pleased with the dish.

I discovered lo Stella in the midst of a snow storm 3 years ago. It’s my favorite Italian and one of favorites overall in Denver. Great wine by the glass and good steaks and sides. Of course this owner comes from a family owned restaurant in portofono Italy that has over 150 years of history. Its location is convenient to downtown and has good street parking. Great for a special occasion or if u want to spoil yourself during a snow storm . 5 stars and kudos to the handsome owner and his staff.
