I have been a somewhat regular diner at The Grill on the Alley in Beverly Hills since it opened seemingly ages ago. It has been a consistently top rate place to dine in BH--for lunch and for dinner, and whenever we bring friends from out of town, they always enjoy it as much as we do. Such was the case last evening. Perfect dinner in every way and wonderful server and service.

Excellent food presented by a team of cordial greeters and management types, attentive service staff, and an excellent barman. The Dover Sold is as good as you might find around here. Crab Cakes and Steaks in particular are a hallmark, and the superior sautéed spinach underscores this. All the waiters are well pedigreed and enjoyable. Steve with 38 years in the business is humorous and very competent- my wife loved him!

Got to restaurant at 5:10 PM so no one at tables at that time. Had sent with reservation to sit at a booth because last time we went we were not put at a booth and instead at a table when there were openings at booths up until we ended dining. I had that time asked also for a booth. Host this time said, when I reminded him we put in for a booth. He responded, we can give you one as long as you are out in 1/12 hours. We said that would occur. Then we were seated in the booth by the bar; not in the actual dining area. Usually, patrons with no reservations are at the bar area and those with reservations are in the dining area. Too many great restaurants to go to for me to be treated like this. When we left at 6:10 (exactly 1 hour after) I announced to the host that we are on time. Obviously, even though the waiter, Alexander, was wonderful and so was the food, this reception was not. Do not plan to go back. Will go to Ocean Prime, Spago, etc instead.

We had the worst table in the restaurant. It made for a very uncomfortable evening. We have dined there many times and this was a first. We told one of the managers and he was extremely apologetic and said it would not happen again.

Last night's experience at Grill on the Alley was among our finest. Each member of the staff made us feel like we were special customers and we felt the love. Our server Adam made sure everything was perfect (as it was) and we had a wonderful dinner.

This is the second time now that we've invited guests to the Grill on The Alley and were served with sub-par food. The chicken pot pies were runny, not creamy. The burger was requested medium rare and came in at moo rare. Bloody red, rare. We had to remind the waiter for one of the salads after the rest of us finished ours and no one came around to refill our glasses or enquire as to our drinks. We were huge fans of Grill On the Alley - so classic and warm and yummy - the ambience is still lovely but the food isn't done with care.

Honestly it was a disappointment. We arrived at 8pm, after the dinner rush. We were nicely greeted and escorted to the table. The server was great, no complaints there. The food was the big disappointment. My chopped salad was missing the bacon and had very little avocado. After telling our server that the bacon was missing, she returned with some. The dressing and the chicken were tasteless! My husband ordered liver and onions, a dish he loves, but is never getting at home. The liver consistency was mushy and filled with connective tissue. He couldn’t get past the texture and asked to return the meal. No problem. He had started with lobster bisque, so he was somewhat sated and it was late. He ordered a shrimp cocktail as a replacement. The mgr never stopped by to see what the problem was, nor to offer anything complimentary to make up for the kitchen’s mistakes. I thought that was poor form. The bill for 1 soup, my salad and the shrimp cocktail was over $75 plus tip. ( yes, I tipped generously) We left totally unsatisfied and won’t be returning soon. I must also mention that the carpet on the stairs to the restrooms was worn out. The place needs to be refreshed.

Classic steakhouse with good fish / seafood options. Great heirloom tomato salad ad sea bass entree. My wife enjoyed a nice wedge salad and the filet mignon. One friend had the calves liver which he thought was too rare. The drinks are amply sized.

Been many times for many good experiences. This time I was very rudely treated by the waiter, Reuben, who told me that my tip was not satisfactory and they he “wipes his a—-with tips” in the amount I left. Thankfully, management is very professional and good and handled the situation.

Tried this restaurant for the first time this week. Great food and service. We arrived shortly after opening on a Saturday. We were seated immediately. Hubby ordered the John Dory - now one of his new favorite seafood entrees. I had brick chicken. I had the empress gin cocktail and hubby paired his fish with a Grgich Chardonnay. Plus we ordered a special salad and dessert. All items were great. Tyrone was a great waiter—just personable enough and laughed at all of my husband’s jokes so a very successful evening overall. One thing I like about this place - they have resisted the industry-wide temptation to cut their menu down to a third of its original. For a steakhouse, they offer three (3), yes three, chicken menu items. Unheard of. Enough dessert items to offer a dessert menu. And a great cocktail and wine line-up. Markup is high on the wine for our taste but the whole experience is well worth it. We will be back.
