The Scotch eggs were the best thing we ate. The fried chicken had too much breading, but was crisp. We thought the macaroni and cheese was too garlic forward, and that's coming from garlic lovers. The pub burger was good but not memorable. We probably won't go back.
Our first time and we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. We all enjoyed our dinners. Would go back!
Happy Hour Food Menu is the best. Love the beef sliders and the pork tacos.
Great vibe, food and drinks! Drinks took a long time to get to us, but food was expedited well and fast. A little noisy but overall amazing experience. Will definitely be going back.
Post hockey dinner. Great food and service good variety of food and beers.
Great food and service.
Good food, good happy hour, great service and cocktails, and very convenient location downtown.
Reservation for 4, every entree ordered was delicious. Customer service was exceptional
Great menu and for the most part the flavor delivered. Staff was the only disappointment. Our waitress was kind but difficult to track down after we placed our order. She wasn’t very personable and seemed annoyed with questions about the menu. We brushed this off as her individual personality however the person who delivered our food was just as brisk with us. Instead of handing food to the person who ordered it, she had our table of 6 pass out our own food from one end. These are little things but the staff seemed not happy to be there or overworked. Enough to have us try a different place next time despite the great atmosphere here.
The waitstaff was friendly, helpful, and energetic. Despite being super busy they checked in regularly and the food and drinks came out quickly (and were delicious).
The only criticism I have, is that the music was a little louder than I would prefer for a dinner date where you're primarily focused on conversation. Otherwise, very comfortable ambiance.
New Year’s Eve
Food was good. Service was AWFUL. Our waitress never checked our table after a food runner brought us our food. Our waitress never refilled our empty drinks.
We met a couple we haven’t seen since before the pandemic. We enjoyed our food very much. I had the Cobb salad, my husband had the Reuben sandwich, they had the Ahi salad and a ramen bowl. All of the meals were large in portions and very good. I wasn’t impressed with the Sangria but the guys liked their beers. It wasn’t very crowded so the noise level was good, but I can see it would be loud when full. There is plenty of parking nearby and 16th Street Mall is right there to wander after or before your meal!
It was way overpriced! 2 drinks (not well done) and a Reuben $50 - I won’t be back!
We tried a few of their seasonal specialties, everything was great. My favourite thing was the bread pudding, delicious! It was a bit loud and surprisingly full of families with even louder children but we managed to get a quiet-ish booth, which made a huge difference. Service was good, we only had to wait for the second round of drinks. This is a good option if you're in a mood for some comfort food. They also have a good selection of cocktails and beer.
Got the pear martini and ahi salad, both were amazing.
We like the location a lot. The food is ok. Nothing great. Service though is always good.
Excellent, pleasant service. Plenty of room, lots of choices, great game night ambiance but not overcrowded or overwhelmingly loud. Great experience and awesome food.
The food was great! The service was terrible. After we received our drinks and water and ordered our food, we never saw our sever again. She asked us if we wanted another drink when she brought us the bill. It was such an odd meal. I’m not sure that I would come here again or recommend this place to anyone.
Great atmosphere and really good food - wait staff were phenomenal
I made a reservation on a Tuesday night at 9pm. me and my girl arrived a little early we were not able to sit at a booth even though it was far from full of patrons or understaffed. The waiter took forever to greet us and didn't even provide his name. After getting water we needed a minute to peruse the menu. He gave us almost 30 minutes of us watching him put away glasses waiting for him to just look at us. Eventually, I decided to get up and grab his attention on my own. He casually sauntered on over. When asked for a little direction on what's good there (because my girl is a little bit of a lucky eater) little to no effort or attention was given to our querie as he seemed like he would rather lament to us "nothing is bad here" than offer advice on what is good. I got the spicy crispy chicken sandwich and she landed on the salmon. I've been to the thirsty lion once before and had the sandwich which was amazing! I've never had a more crispy chicken sandwich that was as well constructed as that one. But this time there was no crunch at all and the chicken was so scant in size I was left with half a ciabatta bun with a slew of toppings and sauce. The veggies on the salmon plate were undercooked as well. When finished we had to look for our server..... again and 15 minutes or so passed before we saw him dashing by to say "the kitchen is closing if you guys want anything else now" then tried to take our plates without asking us if we needed a box. He left for a few minutes and finally brought our check. No box. No thanking us for coming in or asking of our experience just quietly ran our card on his machine and walked away to finish his closing duties. I was so excited to bring my girl and who flew in from Kansas for a few days and the thirsty lion was the last experience we shared in Colorado before she left the next morning. It was a big let down for both of us and I personally don't believe I will be returning. Btw I had to ask b4 we left & his name was Drew.
Right at Union Station. Nice menu. Good place to watch the Bronco game.
You must wonder why most of the restaurants on OpenTable have average ratings over 4 stars. When I first moved here I thought that all these places were either
2. Reviewers are just being nice
3. They are all stoned or
4. They just haven't had world-class dining experiences.
I have been able to confidently remove #1 from the list.
This establishment is no exception. It is an average bar food experience with above-average prices. The fish and chips were run of the mill, the brussel sprouts lifeless and bacon mac and cheese just not what you want from restaurant-quality mac n cheese. Not bad, but not great. I give this place a solid "good".
Met up with a friend from college to catch up after ~40 years. Had a few drinks and appetizers.
It was great - our service was great and the food was excellent. The old fashioned was superb
As usual the Thirsty Lion was great. Had brunch on Sunday with the family prior to the Broncos game. The food, drinks, and service were awesome.
Our waitress wasn’t very friendly, but food and her fast service was great!
Finally a place the whole family enjoys! The food is really tasty and fantastic from apps to salads to sandwiches and other entrees.
Fun atmosphere, good food and drink. Great happy hour menu. Jeremy provided excellent service on a busy night.
I hate to give bad reviews, but the food was below average. The 3 mini burgers weren’t good. The chicken Caesar salad was overdressed & the Asian salad was just ok.
To make matters worse we purchased a gift card for Thirsty Lion & forgot to use it!
The ambience was nice.
Perfect pregame spot before the Nuggets game! Food was a tad underwhelming but the drinks were on point + the servers were great!
We enjoyed our brunch at the Thirsty Lion! The menu provided sufficient variety without being overly large. We sat at a high-top table and enjoyed watching the open kitchen/servers - interesting to see how efficient the managers and servers were to get the food to the tables quickly. Our server was very pleasant and efficient, made some suggestions based on her personal preferences. The atmosphere was nice; maybe a little noisy (football game coming up, games on TV) but not so loud we couldn't have a conversation. Would have liked backs on the high-top stools, but otherwise very comfortable.
Will definitely be back!
We chose this restaurant for the wide variety of options on the menu and the high overall rating.
The table we were brought to was dirty and the hostess either didn't notice or didn't care.
We wiped it ourselves and ordered an appetizer, which was delivered promptly, but with no silverware, or plates, or napkins. There were some nearby so we grabbed those.
We ordered dinner, and again it was delivered promptly and was very tasty.
I would go back in the hopes that the service issues were an anomaly.
Great place to visit with friends and catch up
Great salmon salad and cold beer.
Nice to have an every day dining place in downtown Denver. Always consistent. Not the Outer Range or Weldwerks beers but good beer selection (Epic etc). The food is consistently good and location is great.
The Thirsty Lion is a good place to go to eat before a hockey game since the Ball Arena restaurant no longer lets you know if you got a reservation or not! The menu is varied and should appeal to all tastes - beers on tap are good - the only downside is that IT IS NOISY, especially prior to a sporting event!
Went to Thirsty Lion twice in the past couple of weeks for team lunches. The food was awesome and though it was crowded, it wasn't so loud you had to scream if you wanted to be heard. Love this place!
Great service and food/drinks were delicious
