The Penthouse at Mastro's, Beverly Hills
Great place with new Menu. Definitely a lot of very pricy options on the menus now but they still have the classics which are great.
Steak came perfectly medium and we loved it.
My only negative: high end restaurants shouldn’t bring you a credit card machine to the table.
I am a big Mastro's fan. Been going since 1999. I love the ambiance of the Penthouse and the service is top notch. The food is also top notch but they have turned the Penthouse into its own restaurant and removed basic items from the menu in favor of more specialized dishes. I love the special cuts of meat and the new side dishes they offer but when you can't get a Mastro's Salad to start or steamed asparagus with your dinner, that's a problem for me. I go to Mastros because I love the food and service AND because I can order anything I want and they will find a way to make it. The Penthouse can't do that. Unless they change that, I will be sticking with the Second Floor in BH.
I had high expectations for this restaurant given the reviews both on Open Table and Yelp, and the location. I was bringing here my dad for his birthday, and unfortunately it wasn't a great experience.
Food: We ordered the Japanese kobe beef for appetizer and lobster mashed potatoes which were excellent. The server recommended the cauliflower with bacon and that was a disaster - it was full of cheese and simply untasty. The worst part were the steaks. We got the Bone in Ribeye and the steak was done as requested, but the quality of meat was not as good as I've had at other top steakhouses. The Ribeye was not marbled at all and not very tasty. Dad ordered the Bone in Filet and that was very dry and chewy. The steaks were really a disappointment.
Ambiance: Very lovely, quiet enough to have a conversation. They had live music with a pianist and a singer.
Occassion: The server was nice and polite, but I didn't feel they particularly did anything special for my dad even though I had told them it was his birthday. In many other restaurants they usually bring out a candle or even a small chocolate, there weren't any such gestures here and the server didn't even say happy birthday.
I think a place like this should have higher standards towards their guests and it was simply disappointing that the experience was not that great. I unfortunately won't be returning.
My wifes steak came out raw when she asked for a medium plus. we basically got our entrees served 45 minutes apart as I had orderd a whole branzino which they could not heat up or keep warm.
the service was very average and the ambiance was also average.
Mastros BH used to be one of our fav places but sadly we won't be going back again.
A good time out, the remodel is nice, this is the 2nd time with this waiter he was great, the only thing I would look at improving is valet and their attitude. This is the 2nd time coming that I have not felt warm and fuzzy with them . Food was great all the servers were great and our waiter whom I have had twice now was great!
Great food awesome atmosphere
The place to go for a special occasion
Regular Maestro is better and this is my third time at Maestro. It was a waste of money and experience at the Penhouse. There was nothing grand about it.
I was unaware that the Penthouse had a different menu and price point until we were there so that caught me off guard a bit. However, I have to say that the dining experience is different from the restaurant downstairs. My wife ordered the prawns and they were the biggest prawns that I have ever seen served in a restaurant, and that includes several places in the world where they are naturally large. Well worth the price! Additionally, they have a special chocolate butter cake only available in the Penthouse we stuck with the original but the chocolate looked just as heavenly. Anyone who has had the regular butter cake at Mastros can only imagine!!!!!! A wonderful date night dining experience.
The penthouse at Mastro’s used to be our favorite restaurant ever. But they recently changed their menu and my husband and I were so disappointed.
I feel at the time of booking this reservation they should have informed us their menu had changed and wasn’t the same as it has always been. Felt misled
While the higher level products were very good (the kobe steak), the service was ok and we had to ask a few times to have water glasses refilled-which seemed very odd for a restaurant of this caliber. We were expecting better food and service than our local Mastro's. I don't think we got either. The regular filets were good but not great and the octopus appetizer was bland. We enjoyed the experience and it was fun to try someplace new, but I don't think I would go back.
I’ve been to Mastros Penthouse several times. During my most recent adeventure, I had the worst experience ever. After being seated, we counted how long it took us to get menus and to be asked our beverage of choice and it took 16 minutes. Next, we advised our server we were good with water, but it took her another seven minutes to get our food menus. Once we received our food menu, we were sad that the whole menu was revamped and most of the items we typically order were no longer on the Penthouse menu. After finally figuring out what we wanted to order, it took our sever another ten minutes to take our order. Once we ordered it was kind-of smooth sailing from there, but I had to request refills of my water. I’ve never had that experience when going to Mastros. Typically the servers are very attentive and earn their tip. I was not please with the service. We wanted to leave so bad, we didnt even partake in the buttercake that we’ve been accustomed to eating every Mastros visit.
We had such a wonderful time! I can't wait to go back.
I recd an email an hour before my reservation informing me that their menu has changed. All of my favorite items that I usually order from Mastro’s was not on the new menu list and we were unable to change the reservation to be seated on another floor where the old menu was in effect.
Penthouse atmosphere was much more lively and upbeat compared to the first floor where we first walked in through and checked in. Tables are a bit too close together but all guests were respectful of chairs and their space.
Good live music throughout the dinner. Starts at 7 pm in the evenings. They no longer have a DJ on the penthouse level.
Great service, very kind and attentive server throughout the evening. Made courteous and kind but also professional conversation with us at one point too.
Food is worth it. Branzino was great and served with a lovely sauce, boneless rib eye was cooked very nicely, filet was especially tender, lobster mashed potato and roasted potatoes were nice compliments to the entrees (broccolini was burnt though), and butter cake is the best dessert!
Waiters should not advertise the caesar salad as being prepared tableside. The cheese is the only thing which got tossed in tableside.
Wonderful place. Good food. Nice service. Would definitely go back again.
I have gone to mastros many times and this is the first time I ever have a compliant . I do not know if it’s the sushi I had or the steak but I have been extremely sick since eating dinner there. I know it’s that because I immediately felt sick the day after , I am
Pretty disappointed for the price I paid
A very upsetting experience.
The place looks nice and the Saturday night we visited there was a line outside.
The food was good. The service was just terrible. It was wrapped in a smile but people clearly didn’t care. It took them ~20 minutes to figure out they were out of the bottle of wine we ordered. We were asked if we want the bread, we said yes, didn’t receive the bread. When we waited for our steak for a good 40 minutes we were morally prepared for, the steak we received was wrong. The waitress said she thought we ordered this steak. Waiting for the right steak for another 30 minutes. This time with a manager’s help and a few reminders we’re getting bread. Eventually, there is food, it’s good or it seems to be good because we have waited for so long. “Was it worth the wait?”, I get asked by the waitress. Not the 1.5 hours. Waiting for our sorbets for dessert for another 30 minutes, asking for a check realizing it’s not coming. 10 more minutes - and the check is there with our dessert. The waitress said they took care of the steak. They didn’t.
With so much work trying to get your food to the table you may as well go hunting. It would be faster and people wouldn’t be lying in your face.
We always have a great time at Mastros. We were a little hesitant because we usually dine in the steak house because the penthouse is usually loud with a DJ playing music to a younger crowed. However, our experience in the Penthouse was fabulous this time around. There was a piano and live singing there and since it was similar to the steak house experience we felt completely at home. The only thing we missed was our favorite drink, a dream berry martini. But, that was diffidently not a show stopper. Can't wait to go back.
This was the best Mastro’s experience yet! Everything was perfect, from the ambiance, to the service (Dane was the best!), to the outside view! We will be back very soon!
The place is nice. Food was good. The server was mediocre. It was like he didn’t want to be there. The seating was terrible. We were sat in the middle of two other couples. It seemed like we were all together. I could hardly hear my girlfriend because the other couples were also talking.
Great Valentine’s Day spot. The girlfriend and I really enjoyed the A5 Japanese Wagyu served alongside a sizzling hot stone while waiting for our main courses. It’s sure to have people at other tables turn their heads to watch.
Every dish had a beautiful presentation and everything tasted amazing. Kudos to the attentive and polite staff at Mastro’s. You guys made the experience memorable and worth the $$$.
Went for valentines and the food was amazing. Such a fun experience. Definitely expensive but worth it for special occasions
It was our first time having Mastro’s. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about all the menu items. The drinks were tasty and strong, very well balanced. We had the New York strip and the boneless ribeye, both cooked to perfect medium rare. For our appetizer and side we got the charred octopus and deconstructed elote. The charred octopus had that perfect crispiness along the edges and the elote had a great grill flavor to it. For our desert we got coffee and warm butter cake. The butter cake just had the perfect scenario going on, contrast between temperatures, textures, and taste. Would definitely recommend for everybody to try this place if they haven’t already.
Valentines Day Celebration
We saw Stevie wonder the legend!
Me and my wife went there to celebrate our 3 year wedding Anniversary. We had a great time.
Always great! Amazing ambience, delicious food, and good service! Always 5 stars. Thank you !
I took my man here to celebrate his birthday. We sat outside and overlooked the city. It was really nice and romantic. The staff was amazing and made his birthday unforgettable. They even gave him a card, and the dessert was amazing. Definitely will be going back.
I rarely spend over $400 for dinner for two as we dont drink. Everything was fabulous. Steak and sides were top. I was disappointed at the blue fin appetizer. 40 bucks for the same amount of fish I could get on a 12 dollar sushi order. Very scant portion and they doused it with a sort of vinaigrette. I couldn't taste the bluefin. They could have put a low grade ahi under that sauce and I would never known the difference. Need to fix that one chef.
The steak selection was truly top notch. Great Kobe selections. I ate the rib eye cap cut. Excellent except a tad too much seasoning. Please take note chef that i want to taste the premium beef i bought. It was still delicious.
Service was perfect.
Ambience and decor was a more casual setting with even a TV on the wall over the bar. Nice change up but i like the dimmer steakhouse motif myself. Very pretty nonetheless.
I will come back but go downstairs and get my tomahawk.
Loved everything, the whole experience was amazing!
Amazing service and outstanding food. They made you feel like you were their only customer. Highly recommend
They changed their menu. Everything seems much more expensive and the choices are very limited. I couldn't even order a side of fries. The first lemon drop martini me and my friend ordered was not good.
Tasted as if the bartender forgot to put vodka and lemon juice in it. He re-made it but it still fell very short of what I had grown accustomed to at Mastros. Very disappointing. I will not go back to the new Penthouse but I will go to Mastros.
Exceptional food and service. Ambiance lively, fun and great for a special occasion or date night.
Everyone who worked there was very professional and kind. The balcony at the penthouse was a little cramped but it was still beautiful. They had nice live music. The steak, plates, and sides were piping hot. The leftovers were even more delicious. Will definitely be going back again.
The service was slow
I love this place. It is energetic, the food is great; and the key lime margaritas are potent. My kind of place!
