About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for brunch
  • Good for business meals
Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex.

Morgan was our server. She has been wonderful each time we’ve been at The Nickel. Food was slow getting to us after we ordered, but everything tasted great and was warm.

Very disappointed in the entree. I ordered chicken…they were sold out. Alternative I ordered was mushroom risotto….it was very unappetizing. Tasted okay but for $32 I expected something more. A ladle of risotto was poured onto a plate with 2 slices of mushrooms in the risotto….it tasted okay bur that is all I can say. Adding a protein to it was quite expensive. Decided to order dessert, brownie with vanilla ice cream. How could I go wrong? I did! Ice cream was delivered melted in a cup. Brownie was delivered separate in a flat microwave pan…not the typical brownie…again disappointed. I have been to the Nickel before and even with a limited menu I expected better quality. Probably will not go again.

Had the same waiter (Jake) as the last time we dined here. He was attentive but a new hire a few months ago. More a seasoned veteran this time, he was even better!

Thank you, Michael! We’re thrilled to hear you had another great experience and that Jake made such a positive impression. It’s wonderful to see his growth recognized by returning guests like you. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

The place was very quiet for brunch on Saturday. Friendly but slow service. Bar was closed due to not having a key. Food was tasty. Limited menu.
The NickelResponded on June 14, 2025
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the bar being closed due to a key issue—our staff was not properly shown the key, but this has now been resolved to prevent it from happening again. We’re hoping you’ll give us another chance, as our menu also changes seasonally to offer fresh and exciting options. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Sadly, the brunch menu is extremely limited, especially if you are not interested in breakfast food. And, the food was lukewarm and sub par. In particular, I ordered the kale caesar and the lettuce was wilted to the point I didn't eat any of it. We also ordered a burger that was very fatty and left my daughter and I both not feeling super great that evening or the next day. I wanted to love this place as it's so convenient to the theater and so cute!
The NickelResponded on May 24, 2025
Hi Shannon, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear the food didn’t meet expectations — especially the kale Caesar and burger. That’s not the experience we want for our guests. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you back. Our brunch menu changes seasonally, and we’re always working to improve. Hopefully we can give you a visit that matches the charm and convenience you were hoping for. Best, The Nickel Team
