About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for brunch
  • Good for business meals
Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex.

Had the same waiter (Jake) as the last time we dined here. He was attentive but a new hire a few months ago. More a seasoned veteran this time, he was even better!

Sadly, the brunch menu is extremely limited, especially if you are not interested in breakfast food. And, the food was lukewarm and sub par. In particular, I ordered the kale caesar and the lettuce was wilted to the point I didn't eat any of it. We also ordered a burger that was very fatty and left my daughter and I both not feeling super great that evening or the next day. I wanted to love this place as it's so convenient to the theater and so cute!

Hi Shannon, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear the food didn’t meet expectations — especially the kale Caesar and burger. That’s not the experience we want for our guests. We’d love the opportunity to welcome you back. Our brunch menu changes seasonally, and we’re always working to improve. Hopefully we can give you a visit that matches the charm and convenience you were hoping for. Best, The Nickel Team

I really wanted to love this place...but, sadly not. Food timing was bad. I guess they are interested in turning tables than providing a good experience. We were not even halfway thru our salad when our entrees showed up. The server said they could take my dish back to 'keep it warm'....really? It is fish....not sure if I would prefer dried out fish or cold fish. Neither is good. We felt very rushed and had to constantly ask for water refills (very small glasses). We also overheard that they were out of a couple of things; which being a Saturday night at 6:00 is not a good thing. The food, overall, was OK...nothing exciting. The space is lovely. They have a VERY small wine list. If in the area, we might stop in for a cocktail, but probably not much more than that.
