Such a great fun experience! Highly recommend!
The food was good but can in very small portions. The dining area and lounge areas were very nice. Best part was the wine cellar. Your mostly paying for the experience.
I knew it said on the main page that gratuity wasn’t included on the bill but figured it meant they were going to take it automatically, so I didn’t bother . Before we left we went to the restroom. The server followed us and told us that it was included and that’s how they get paid around here. But she was very rude about it. If she said it nicely I wouldn’t have mind giving her a tip.
But other then that it was a great experience .
The Hobbit is always a very special experience. There are many fine dining restaurants that have great food but The Hobbit adds that unique experience from the wine cellar up to the minibar and the awesome dining experience and intermission in between. It’s worth the cost!
For a special event with amazingly delicious food, give this restaurant a try. Everything is wonderful and well priced for what you get. be prepared to spend around 4 hours enjoying your meal.
We had a wonderful time. The food was so delicious! Every plate was so good and unique. The price is well worth the experience and we highly recommend this place.
The best dinner experience in orange county
Love the food that was prepared for us. I always enjoy all the courses and the time in between to let you digest. The intermission before the main course of the meal to allow you to walk around and make room or visit the kitchen. Very nice music and staff there. All is wonderful can't wait to go back for a third time!
Celebrated our anniversary. Very memorable experience. Excellent staff and service. Hope we can go back again!! Definitely will recommend.
Great time, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food, literally every bite was delicious! we will be back!
Overall experience was good. Food and service were excellent. But the rooms are small and very crowded in the wine cellar, bar areas, patios, kitchen tour, hallways etc, before the meal & during the intermission.
This was a beautiful place and the food was great. A great dinning experience. For the price it would of be nice to add some live music. It would of been better if the name "Hobbit" reflected more in the restaurant comparing to the movie but, that's no big deal. Over all a great fun place that I would definitely refer friends too.
In a hole in the Orange County, there lived a Hobbit.
Fantastic dining experience. The servers and Executive Chef/Owner were friendly, courteous, and professional. We didn't drink due to personal reasons, but we ordered some sparkling cider and espressos with throughout the evening and you can be prepared to spend anywhere from $110 a person (after tax and tip) to $1500 if your group is wanting to select a $2000 bottle of Port from 1947... Yes the wine selection is that good and very extensive. Be careful not to fill up on the delicious hors d'oeuvre as you will have 6 more courses to get through by the end of the 3 hour evening.
7 courses and I am still hungry
The Hobbit has been around for a long time and they've undoubtedly been delivering a "unique dining experience" for a long time. As a first time customer, my impression was that the experience is getting stale. The staff stuck me as disinterested. The owner/head chef - who's role is ostensibly to work the pre-dinner room and show off the kitchen - was clearly not enjoying himself. Maybe everyone was having an off night, but when you do a single seating on a limited schedule, there's an expectation that the staff will bring their A-game. That said, the food was good, but they aren't breaking any new ground there. You're getting very good classic French fair. Overall, I came away feeling like the potential was there for a memorable and delightful night, but the vibe from the staff didn't measure up to the promise of the experience. Maybe time for a refresh?
I took my mother for her birthday, we were treated with care and the menu was amazing, who would of ever thought that even a tomato on a salad would have the most incredible flavor I have ever tasted, every bite of food was unique and delicious.... though I was with my family you could feel love all around with the other tables so romantic
It was truly a unique dining experience. Elegant, beautiful, delicious, and the best service I’ve ever received. I definitely recommend this place for special occasions.
First time at The Hobbit and was totally amazed at the pride of all the staff who work there! We started with cocktails upstairs in the bar where we met the GM who was happy to mix any drink for you. There specialty drinks where delightful! We moved to another part of the house to sit with other guest to chat before being called downstairs to the cellar for champagne and appetizers! It was fun looking at all the different wines and learning about the regions from which it came. Since Jim and I chose a meat and fish entree we selected a red, Cristina Pinot Noir Estate 2013 and a white ,Chablis Vendanges 2015 for our dinner. Both were amazing.
Next we were called for dinner which everyone sat at private tables in multiple rooms. The table setting was spectacular.
Each course served was beautifully presented and the flavors were mouth watering.
Durning intermission we opted to stop by the kitchen to meet the chefs and ask questions.
The staff again were very pleasant and offered to take pictures for you as well.
We were called back to our tables in which the linens and settings were changed.
I promise you no one will leave hungry from this place.
This by far has been the best dining experience in my life!
Thank you all at The Hobbiy for the epic dining experience!
The intimate bar is wonderful and we enjoy hanging out in the lounge speaking with our guest. The basement with appetizers is fantastic. The steak tartar was fabulous. Great selection of wine in the cellar. The dinner was incredible. The scallop appetizer was excellent and the duck with risotto was delicious. The filet en croute was to die for, so tender and flavorful. the service was incredible. Thank you for another enjoyable dining experience.
Amazing one of a kind experience. Before you make a reservation, check their website to see what the main course protein will be because it's a fixed menu
The ambiance, food, and experience were absolutely fantastic! Our only reason for not giving 5 stars was that they automatically added an 18% gratuity. Other than that, everything was great!
The food at The Hobbit was absolutely exquisite, as was the kitchen staff (Hector is amazing) and our server, Mike! The ambience was pretty good overall. The patio and wine cellar areas were fantastic, and the rest of the house had a vintage vibe, though it teetered on rundown. Overall, the experience was pretty good, but the hostess was less than inviting, barely drawing a smile upon our arrival and there was an issue with the manager that started the evening off on the wrong foot. When I was not made aware of the restaurant’s dress code and a couple of members of my party were not dressed according to code (although their outfits cost far more than the entire dinner’s bill), The manager politely scolded me for not following the dress code. When I explained the situation, he repeatedly said he would, “Let it slide this time,” which of course implied that it was my fault as well as made me feel belittled. As the evening continued, the manager did apologize. Experience was good overall, but for a restaurant that takes their dress code so seriously, they do not put it on the reservation contract, nor reiterate it during any of the phone calls prior to the evening’s dinner. It’s also in an obscure spot on the website. Definitely no comparison to the Michelin rated restaurants I’ve visited, but still an experience worth having.
What a wonderful night we had! I booked two months in advance to celebrate my boyfriend taking a huge Board Exam! We were so excited and our experience was beyond what we expected. From the cozy bar and lounge to the wine cellar to enjoy the delicious appetizers, our table was by the window and it was just exquisite. Cozy and not stuffy or snobby, just perfect! Such a special memory for us both.
The entire evening was fantastic. Starting with champagne in the wine cellar and finishing with the most delicious dessert, The Hobbit does not disappoint. It was worth the money.
The ambience was charming, including the front patio area. The Hobbit royale, a signature cocktail was outstanding. The first act, hors d’oeuvres in the cellar was excellent but a little crowded. All the appetizers were excellent! The second and third acts were also quite wonderful. The wine cellar was great, I would recommend picking a wine from the cellar for dinner as opposed to the wine pairing (at least the night we were there it wasn’t great). Overall a wonderful (but expensive) experience.
The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff attentive, and the food was divine. The intermission allowed customers to wander the house and even meet the chefs. Everything was delicious and for what you are getting the prices are reasonable.
Excellent food and atmosphere. A little noisy, but overall an outstanding evening.
Great food, great service as always. Can be loud, but worth it.
The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly. We had a great time celebrating
Food was mouth watering! Love the experience! Literally will take 3-4 hrs.
Great wines. Great food. Had a blast. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because it was a little crowded at times in the bar and cellar.
Food was really good. Some of the other guests did not have the best table manners, some double dipping on the apps that are shared. Noise was a bit high given the formal atmosphere. Website indicates some walking around outside option which was the sidewalk of a busy street.
The Hobbit experience was magnificent, everything from the meeting in the cellar and sharing hors D'oeuvres with a glass of champagne to the food, the service , the ambience trough the break after the 3rd course, it was the top restaurant i have ever eaten at...
The Hobbit is truly a hole-in-the-wall gem. It has a minimal Lord of the Rings vibe and more of a "unique dining experience". The 4 hour, 7 course feast is truly a once in a lifetime experience. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and got to enjoy lamb, salmon, salad, beef (with an option of fish instead) and dessert. And because it was our anniversary, the executive chef gifted us a special concoction after-dinner brandy that really was the perfect end. We even got to talk with the manager/sommelier as we were waiting for our Lyft home. All in all, it was a perfect experience! I would recommend to everyone!
(The only down side for us was that our waitress poured really small servings out of the bottle of wine we purchased. We were kind of upset about it at the time, but it actually did a good job of pacing us throughout the four-course meal.)
Fabulous food with excellent wine pairings
A wonderful dining experience! Probably the best prepared and presented meal I’ve ever had. Inviting, comfortable, and absolutely unique. Highly recommended for special occasions. I live in mid-town Los Angeles, and it was well worth the drive.
Amazing. From the food to the service to the ambience, this place is amazing.
This was quite possibly the best dining experience I’ve ever had!
Incredible evening everything was perfect, the food, the service, the wine and the atmosphere .
Have heard about The Hobbit for many years came with friends with high expectations. Service was outstanding but food just ok. Not worth the cost but a great 5 hour dining experience with good friends.
OC Magazine rated the Hobbit as the #1 out of 27 must do’s in Orange County. I can see why. Dining at the Hobbit was truly an event! Dinner starts with appetizers and champagne in the wine cellar while you casually select your dinner’s wine. It’s an impressive wine collection. The menu is preselected, so the Hobbit is not for picky eater. For the rest of us who appreciate a chef that showcases what he feels is best for the season, the meal was a tour de force. My only criticism was a little drawn out.
I would highly recommend it for a special event. It’s expensive, but worth it.
