A wonderful night celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday. David, our waiter, was awesome! We all had a great time.
I love this place. Whether for a small or large event or special occasion - it's amazing!!
An outstanding meal. Worth every penny for the dining experience.
Had a very enjoyable time! Food and service were excellent!
This is my go to restaurant for special occasions.
This restaurant always impresses and worth the experience, even at the high price.
The menu was great. A great selection of different proteins served. I wanted to especially comment on how great the chef was at tailoring the menu items to accommodate my allergies. Everything on the menu was exceptional. Truly a fine gem in this city of Orange
Amazing multi-course experience with exeptional and unique flavors presented beautifully in a beautiful private location. The wine cellar experience and the entire evening is spectacular and one-of-a-kind. Save up, because it is expensive, but it is worth it for a very special occasion.
The Hobbit is a one of a kind treat all deserve to experience. Thanks to Executive Chef Mike, Chef Hector, Somolier Matt, Gino, Amy, Mar and the rest of the Hobbit team! Our group received kind, sophisticated, fun, detailed service from the moment we arrived through our departure. Wow! Extremely uncommon attention and care to their guests. Our group enjoys food and wine and have frequented many other fine restaurants throughout So. Cal happily surprised with both food and service. However, the Hobbit’s team of chefs, attendants, wine experts and staff actively coordinate together their individual talents, pleasant attitudes and extensive knowledge to provide the most amazing dining experience, the Hobbit exhibits and truly defines what fine dining is. Thank You all for the wonderful night we celebrated together!!
I've been here a few times now and the food has always been outstanding. I brought friends that day and was raving about the food. The hors d'oeuvres were fantastic as always and the first course, diver scallop, was amazing! But everything after that was bland. The salad was unimpressive, it was flavorless and visually unimpressive. The main entree, filet stuffed with mushroom was cook perfect but again lacked flavor, also the color was light it didn't have good sear Mark's. The dessert was very standard, it was good but you could tell it was either premade or bought, plopped on the plate and topped with fresh berries. Overall the experience was great as always and the wait staff was perfect. I was just a little disappointed with the food. Oh well I'm luck enough to go there again this weekend, I'm sure the food will be better this time. I love this place and highly recommend it...
It was my second time coming here and what an evening we had !! Great ambiance, exceptional ambiance, and attention to detail. Hor d'oeuvres were fantastic especially the date with cheese. House champagne was rather good, wine pairing was excellent. Scallops was seared to perfection, goat cheese salad was just flat. Filet Mignon was just ok, more loin(Y) rather fibrous dessert tart was scrumptious. Will def make my way back here sooner rather than later.
My favorite place ever!! Everything is delicious. Fabulous cocktails. Really reasonable pairing!
Excellent service and food!
Great overall. Prawns slightly undercooked, a little too sweet, but if paired with the somelier’s white selection, surprisingly fantastic.
Upstairs exit to balcony dark and unmarked and easy to trip over and spill your fresh drink onto your shoes and embarass yourself.
Every time we introduce friends to the restaurant, their response is fantastic! Always stellar never a disappointment
We had a great experience. The service was phenomenal and the food was excellent. Would definitely consider for another “special occasion” night out. Pricey, but when you consider the experience you can understand why.
We chose the Hobbit to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. We wanted a long intimate dinner that progressed around excellent food and service. We anted to be catered to and pampered. The Hobbit exceeded all expectations.
From cocktails to the wine cellar, to appetizers and multiple courses, it was an unforgettable experience and worth every penny.
Cant recommend this place enough. Getting to go back into the kitchen and visit with the chefs during intermission was an especially nice treat.
What a gem! Lived in Orange County for many years and was glad to have made this dining experience. It's nice to be in a place that values exquisite food, good wine, service and the pace of enjoying a great meal. It was expensive but well worth it for any foodie or special occasion. It is a long night of 3.5 hours but I loved it, and so did my friend.
We celebrated my fiancé ‘s birthday at the Hobbit and it was quite the experience. It was a seven course dinner that starts at the wine cellar with champagne and an assortment of appetizers. Every course is delicious and the right amount of portions to prepare you for the main course. They ended the course by surprising my fiancé with a complimentary house made truffle chocolate with whip cream with a candle and it was so rich! Everything was amazing, the service, the food and the whole experience. We will definitely come back.
The Hobbit continues to provide the county’s most unique fine-dining experience! We took our son and daughter-in-law and their first visit was everything we had hoped it would be. Ambiance, pacing of courses, wine and of course, outstanding, inventive, food.
Such a unique environment. Food is well prepared and has beautiful presentation. My past dining experiences here have been superb. This one was very good.
One caution to those who have not been here, you walk from the basement to the second floor and down some steps to the patio. If you have guests who may have difficulty with narrow stairs, just be mindful. So the likelihood of have a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary would require some additional planning! Gee, stairs were never an issue in past visits. I wonder what changed? Hmmm.
Overall, the staff are as attentive as ever, food fabulous. A definite candidate when planning an extra special event. Quiet enough to be intimate, energetic enough not to be boring.
Great experience. Terrific service . So original . Nice atmosphere . Will make this a go to event .
Fabulous! Unforgettable! Special! An event to remember!
Awesome place for a special dinner date. They really help get you the perfect wine pairing for your tastes. Servers were friendly, attentive, and vey fast.
My parents and I came on june 20th a Wednesday night. The night started off with my mother falling down the stairs leading into the wine cellar. Her champagne glass shattered and I picked her up off the ground and we tried to begin eating the hors d'oeuvres. It was so crowded in The Wine Cellar that it made it difficult to even get to the hors d'oeuvres. We then sat down for dinner and the Waiters began to bring us the food which was a seven course meal. But the food was less than appropriate. I was very disappointed and the portion sizes of each dish. The sizes we're so small that The Hobbit and the chef should be embarrassed for serving such small helpings. The duck must have weighed about 1 oz total. This is how all the food items and entrees came. We had our choice of a couple main entrees. They had a couple alternate choices for the main entree. I had chosen to eat the alternate choice of a filet mignon steak. When the steak arrived my father couldn't even see it as it was hidden behind some potatoes. I called one of the servers over to ask him how big the filet mignon was and he told me that it might have been about 4 oz. But this steak was definitely closer to 3 oz. Now remember by choosing the alternate item for the main meal I was charged an additional $8. I asked the server if there was any way I could get an extra piece of the filet mignon and he told me that he would go talk to the chef. The server came back and told me that the chef said it would be okay to get some extra steak. As I waited another server came up and made a big deal about getting extra food. He stated twice that this is not normal business protocol. He made me feel like he was doing us a favor. He also said that we should be happy because he gave us some extra wine prior to the meal. The one that he gave us was at most two small sips. They came back and said they were out of filet mignon and gave me a tiny helping of some other meat. I was very disappointed with the evening overall.
Such a great fun experience! Highly recommend!
The food was good but can in very small portions. The dining area and lounge areas were very nice. Best part was the wine cellar. Your mostly paying for the experience.
I knew it said on the main page that gratuity wasn’t included on the bill but figured it meant they were going to take it automatically, so I didn’t bother . Before we left we went to the restroom. The server followed us and told us that it was included and that’s how they get paid around here. But she was very rude about it. If she said it nicely I wouldn’t have mind giving her a tip.
But other then that it was a great experience .
The Hobbit is always a very special experience. There are many fine dining restaurants that have great food but The Hobbit adds that unique experience from the wine cellar up to the minibar and the awesome dining experience and intermission in between. It’s worth the cost!
For a special event with amazingly delicious food, give this restaurant a try. Everything is wonderful and well priced for what you get. be prepared to spend around 4 hours enjoying your meal.
We had a wonderful time. The food was so delicious! Every plate was so good and unique. The price is well worth the experience and we highly recommend this place.
The best dinner experience in orange county
Love the food that was prepared for us. I always enjoy all the courses and the time in between to let you digest. The intermission before the main course of the meal to allow you to walk around and make room or visit the kitchen. Very nice music and staff there. All is wonderful can't wait to go back for a third time!
Celebrated our anniversary. Very memorable experience. Excellent staff and service. Hope we can go back again!! Definitely will recommend.
Great time, cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food, literally every bite was delicious! we will be back!
Overall experience was good. Food and service were excellent. But the rooms are small and very crowded in the wine cellar, bar areas, patios, kitchen tour, hallways etc, before the meal & during the intermission.
This was a beautiful place and the food was great. A great dinning experience. For the price it would of be nice to add some live music. It would of been better if the name "Hobbit" reflected more in the restaurant comparing to the movie but, that's no big deal. Over all a great fun place that I would definitely refer friends too.
In a hole in the Orange County, there lived a Hobbit.
Fantastic dining experience. The servers and Executive Chef/Owner were friendly, courteous, and professional. We didn't drink due to personal reasons, but we ordered some sparkling cider and espressos with throughout the evening and you can be prepared to spend anywhere from $110 a person (after tax and tip) to $1500 if your group is wanting to select a $2000 bottle of Port from 1947... Yes the wine selection is that good and very extensive. Be careful not to fill up on the delicious hors d'oeuvre as you will have 6 more courses to get through by the end of the 3 hour evening.
7 courses and I am still hungry
The Hobbit has been around for a long time and they've undoubtedly been delivering a "unique dining experience" for a long time. As a first time customer, my impression was that the experience is getting stale. The staff stuck me as disinterested. The owner/head chef - who's role is ostensibly to work the pre-dinner room and show off the kitchen - was clearly not enjoying himself. Maybe everyone was having an off night, but when you do a single seating on a limited schedule, there's an expectation that the staff will bring their A-game. That said, the food was good, but they aren't breaking any new ground there. You're getting very good classic French fair. Overall, I came away feeling like the potential was there for a memorable and delightful night, but the vibe from the staff didn't measure up to the promise of the experience. Maybe time for a refresh?
I took my mother for her birthday, we were treated with care and the menu was amazing, who would of ever thought that even a tomato on a salad would have the most incredible flavor I have ever tasted, every bite of food was unique and delicious.... though I was with my family you could feel love all around with the other tables so romantic
