I have been to this dining experience before, and it is an experience. Due to Covid-19 our reservation got switched up a few times. I give The Hobbit a lot of credit, they switched their dining to all outdoors in a beautiful (and huge) tent. They went all out, fancy tables and chairs, astro turf to cover the parking lot and chandeliers. I did miss mingling in the wine cellar and exploring the space, but there is no blame in the restaurant for that missing this time. They went above and beyond in making the evening a wonderful one. I highly recommend it both during Covid and when we are done with lock down.
My wife and I had a wonderful time at The Hobbit. Even with the Covid restrictions, the staff made our experience very memorable. We will definitely be returning.
Always a treat to eat at The Hobbit. Elegant yet homey, food well prepared and interesting. Add a wine pairing and you are really in for a very nice evening.
We come once a year. This was our 5th visit. Our favorite special occasion restaurant. Never been disappointed, and the filet we had this time was as good or better than any I’ve ever had. Love the Hobbit!
We have visited The Hobbit many times over the last 25 years but our first since the Corona virus. The procedure is a bit different in that the entire set of guests does not go the the wine cellar for hors d oeuvres and wine selection. Rather the hors d oeuvres are served at your table and each party goes to the cellar without other guests.
As usual the food was outstanding and service top notch. A truly delightful evening after not dining out for quite a while. One of my favorite features of The Hobbit is the single seating per evening. You will never feel like they want to turn the table. Very much like I have felt at restaurants in Europe. Pricy evening but well worth it!!
How can you improve on perfect. Arrived at 6:30 p.m. left at 11 p.m. Wonderful experience, do not leave this world without experiencing The Hobbit.
Everything was outstanding! Shoutout to Matt whom was informative on wines and his impeccable service. Truly a unique dining experience..highly recommend
Always a great place to go for special occasions.
One of the best restaurants in the world!
A Stellar dining experience! The food was spectacular. Loved the Use of the entire property. Outside patio very cozy to visit with your party or the other guests.
This is our fifth trip to the Hobbit. We love it! The service and food is always excellent. We will be going again next year.
The night starts with an amazing course of horsdevours and keeps getting better.
Far and Away the Best of the Best restaurants in the USA, nea world. Pleasant atmosphere, relatively quiet, Relaxed. Fine and delightfully prepared/served foods. Good variety of wines and more than most. The staff, from Matt to the cooks were more than kind and informative. We've liked it for almost 50 years!!!
We so enjoyed our dinner for our son’s birthday. Have been trying to get there for 3 years and finally remembered to make reservations in advance. It exceeded all expectations from the warm and wonderful but not intrusive staff to the creative food pairings. Definitely going back!
Our dinner was delightful, starting with an array of hors d'oeuvres and a glass of complimentary champagne (one could then purchase wine pairings with the meal, but we did not). We were then seated and had several courses, each of which was lovely and delicious. The highlight for me was the duck confit over polenta with fresh vegetables. The wait staff brought bread a couple of times (as if there was not enough food...!) and were excellent about answering questions. They were friendly and kind, as was the chef. The evening was relaxed, pleasant and enjoyable, with French songs playing for most of the meal and the gentle atmosphere of a home transformed for dining.
We had an amazing time! I’ve been wanting to go for years now and it met my expectations. The food was amazing and the Winter Old Fashioned was so delicious! I definitely want to go again.
We had probably the best table in the house, which was awesome, and our wait staff and the sommelier were outstanding. Love the fact that they offered a wine pairing option, and the time in the wine cellar to start is always fun. I don’t eat red meat and they made accommodations for that, which was the only part of the meal that wasn’t great - halibut which was dry and fishy, and just boring. The salmon alternative to beef Wellington was delicious. Overall, aside from the one fish dish, another visit to The Hobbit experience that didn’t disappoint!
This is my favorite special-event restaurant. I've been going here for almost 25 years and have never been disappointed. Six fabulous courses (including delicious appetizers and champagne in the wine cellar to start) and wine pairings. My dining party always looks forward to our visit, and the staff is super friendly and informative and attentive. We were there four hours and enjoyed every minute.
The entire experience is amazing. We start with a cocktail hour where you can either go to the small courtyard of the house or a couple of rooms upstairs. Then go down to basement for appetizers and champagne. There are 10+ appetizers and each of them is delicious. Then comes 5-course sit-down dinner. You can have wine pairing for $50 or select what you want during appetizer hour. The first half of the dinner came with scallops, duck confit and a frisée salad. All of them were delicious and perfect portions. After a 15-min intermission, we had the main entree which was the mushroom stuffed filet mignon, or you can opt for salmon for a small supplement. The steak was done perfectly. Dessert was a chocolate roulette and strawberry sorbet. The staff throughout were attentive and fun. We got to tour the kitchen and had a few words with the chef. We had been to the restaurant 6 months ago with friends and this time we took our in-laws visiting from the UK. All of us had the most wonderful evening.
Utterly fabulous. My only criticism is that, for some of us oldies, the evening ends pretty late. We were served dessert at 10:30, which is past my bedtime. Other than that, you can't do better!
Dinner was beautiful to look at and delicious tasting. Presentation and taste were exceptional. The service was impeccable. They used small touches of personalization to make the experience special for us. My daughter had a wonderful time.
Great place for a special occasion! The food was delicious, service impeccable and everyone was so nice and accommodating! Would recommend to anyone looking for a dining experience, not just dinner. No rush, great pace, really nice place!
Without a doubt, One of the finest dining experiences I have ever had!
Just a wonderful evening with incredible food and service!
Intriguing and amazing. Only* sour note was the noise level - that old house could stand some acoustic alterations.
* and CHOCOLATE for desert!
Our first visit to “The Hobbit” was quite fun and relaxing. The food was very good the steak was as tense as we have ever had. The bar was well stocked. The appetizers were good would have preferred they be labeled as well as replenished when gone. Overall we expected just a bit more given the mystery surrounding the restaurant but cannot say any one thing was wrong we highly recommend going.
Delicious food and friendly staff.
Best food ever have not been there since the remodel still amazing
Elegant and delicious
The best of everything! I could have been done in the wine cellar with the champagne & food. Everything was fantastic from start to finish.
We will return.😊
Come hungry, great experience!
Fabulous dining experience. Must do in OC. Come hungry, and looking to enjoy some nice wines. Not for early birds. Expect a long, fine meal. I imagine fantastic with a group of friends to catch up.
An excellent place for a celebration. The wine cellar was delightful and the food was great. We had a family evening to remember.
The Hobbit is always a wonderful dining experience.
Anniversary and birthday celebration. Wonderful dining experience. Top notch service and food.
It was a very enjoyable evening. We also met a nice couple before the dinner began and had a wonderful conversation.
We absolutely loved every minute of our dining experience. Nothing compares to not only the exquisite menu and service but also the warm feeling of home and the nurturing environment. We’ve found our new favorite restaurant and we can’t wait to return.
Fun experience for the foodie! Need a special location for a special occasion? This is the place. Just know it's a bit of a marathon. I've gone twice - once my wife and once with my best buddy cause we share a birthday. Both had checked out by the time dessert arrived. (Full of food and sleepy). But I love enjoying creative cooking all night. Will go back
The wine cellar, the appetizers, the food, the wine pairings, the sommelier and ambiance are definitely unique! Would come here again and again.
