Tamayo Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Met friends from out of town who wanted to see the LoDo area and one of our favorite restaurants and Tamayo fit the bill perfectly! Always one of our favorite downtown drinks/dinner spot. It's perfect for meeting friends, a fun meal with my wife and/or a meal before catching a show at the DCPA.
We booked the Tamayo for our Valentine’s Day dinner on open table. No where on open table did it say there was a fixed menu. Tamayo even called me 48 hours before as a reminder and didn’t mention there was a Valentine’s Day fixed menu. They were able to seat us at the bar, thank god because we didn’t want to spend $60 a person not including drinks!!! They had a small menu at the bar that wasn’t fixed, which turned out to be fine. Not great, but fine. The bar waiter seemed to rush us out and tried to offer us our check after 35 minutes of sitting there, for our Valentine’s Day dinner.... we ended up having a fine night, but Tamayo had multiple opportunities to mention the fixed menu and they didn’t. I was disappointed.
Made reservations 3 weeks in advance. Checked the reservation the day before. Showed up on time and told “there is only a price fix menu”. Told unless we do the price fix menu we would have to sit in the bar.
Restaurant was less than 1/2 full.
Handed a limited bar menu and had to squeeze into a tiny table.
Hostess said she tried to reach us to tell me it was only going to be a limited special menu. No evidence of any call placed. No message left and no email sent.
Walked out and had a lovely meal across the street.
Reserved on Open Table 30 minutes prior and staff had our table ready even though it was a busy night. Friends arrived late but I was able to sit down and wait for them. Great service from Oz, tasty drinks and amazing food. Great location situated in Larimer Square near Union Station and Downtown Denver.
Have been customer since it opened and happily recommended it to many people over the years. However, I was very disappointed on our recent visit. Most food was cool or cold and our server did not seem to be “on top of things.” Also, it seems there are fewer selections on the brunch menu then there had been.
We enjoyed our experience very much! It's a great restaurant in the theatre district. Perfect for pre or post theatre meal! I would like to see more creative staters and more fish options. I didn't know or hear if there was a dinner special but it would be a good option to add. We were seated for our reservation immediately. Our heavy coats were taken and hung for us which was very nice. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The meal came very quickly. I had the carnitas which were excellent. My husband had the salmon which was a bit "fishy" but good. Serving sizes were perfect. Thanks for a very nice excperience!
We hadn't been to Tamayo for a year or so, but happy to be back. Restaurant met our request for the quietest table, putting us in a circular booth near the back. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Guacamole was basic...could use a bit more flavor for me. Queso fundido was terrific. Tortilla soup a little on the spicy side but good. Dessert selection is small, just 4 choices, and we tried one with chocolate mousse/cake combo. OK, but 5 of us left a bite on the plate so something was lacking.
Tamayo consistently delivers delicious and innovative food with cuisine inspired from south of the border. The tasty skirt steak had a beautiful presentation, covered with two different colorful and tasty sauces. The spicy Mango Margarita was just a bit disappointing in that the spiciness overpowered both the fruity Mango and the Tequila. The service was attentive and efficient. We will definitely return.
I was disappointed at best.
I made reservations, checked in a few minutes early, the hostess forgot about my date and I. I reminded them that we were waiting and she laughed it off. The space is ridiculously loud. There are no soft surfaces to absorb sound and all of the loudness bounces throughout. I couldn't have a conversation with my date who was sitting next to me...
The food was OK at "damn good" pricing. Our waiter was only concerned with selling drinks (which were good).
Bottom line, I won't go back.
We visited Tamayo pre show at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. This was our second visit to this restaurant and came back for the delicious food. Everything we ordered was very delicious and unique. Our waiter, Gregory, was fantastic and very attentive to our table even though we could see he had many tables to service.
My only negative comment is that I do feel it is overpriced and unfortunately we are only able to come for very special occasions.
Very busy night, but service was still good. Took a bit to get out our entre' but we had the guacamole for appys. It needed salt, but I liked that that may have been left to the individual. But there were no salt or pepper shakers on the table.
My salmon was great, very creative use of squash. My associates chicken enchiladas were also good, she said she would come back there again.
They have changed the menu and have become a bland taco kind of eatery. Soggy tacos, over cooked filling. Good guacamole and chips. Our wait was long for service and not very attentive. The table behind the hostess stand is cold each time the door is opened. So sad what used to be a wonderful place has lowered their standard of food.
I took a group of friends for my 25th birthday, and it was great. I was the only one who had previously been to Tamayo, but everyone walked away LOVING the place. Our waiter was great: very knowledgeable, entertaining, and very attentive - I wish I remembered his name, although I attribute that to the amazing margaritas ;)
I received an email promotion stating a free margarita with lunch entree. Waitress acted like she wasn’t aware of the promotion. We shared the email then were charged for our margaritas. Manager came an suggested that we should have printed the promotional email. Then agreed to honor it. Bad service!
Between the amazing food and wonderful service, we will definitely be returning. The pork belly tacos were so delicious. And our service was great. He offered gre at recommendations, catered to my food allergies well, and made celebrating a new job extra special.
