Having lived in Japan for 3 years, its been very rare to find a restaurant that surpasses my high expectations for Japanese cuisine let alone sashimi. Having the experience dining at the Tsukiji Market as well as restaurants all over Tokyo and Japan, Sushi Sasa has definitely surpassed my expectations. Granted, I went into the restaurant with low expectations from my previous experiences at a “Japanese” restaurant across the U.S. However, my sincere compliments to the chef! The sashimi, especially the uni was exactly what I tasted in Japan. Fresh, flavorful, as well as the fish grade being top quality. The restaurant is in a subtle location and it doesn’t scream out pretentiousness like some U.S. Japanese restaurants do. It reminded me of the Japanese restaurants that you would walk right by if you didn’t know of the exact location. The food spoke for itself. The staff was very friendly and prompt. If you’re ever in Denver, I highly recommend you visit Sushi Sasa! Arigato Gozaimasu !
My favorite sushi restaurant then, and now. Had the Trio w/ house made crackers, Pink Lady Roll,Tempura Roll, etc. All delicious
We brought our 2 month old baby in her baby carrier. The hostess was very rude and told us she didn’t know we were bringing a baby and that the tables are very close together. We found this odd as 50% of the tables were empty and with the 2 top she gave us, there was plenty of space. Once she sat us, she rudely said- you have this table for 1.5 hours. Now, I realize bringing a baby to dinner isn’t ideal for some restaurants but an early reservation in a 50% full restaurant I feel is reasonable.
We never have a bad experience here. Food is always amazing! Service was extremely fast which was a concern with a 90 minute reservation. We had more than enough time to eat and never felt rushed to get out. Grilled artichoke is a must have as an appetizer!! You will not regret eating here. Love it!
Sushi is so fresh! Also, don't miss the seaweed salad- best I've had. Cant wait to return!
Best sushi in Denver. Of course, it's still Denver, but really excellent.
Hamachi, avocado appetizer was the only miss. Lots of avocado, but tiny tiny amount of fish. For $18, they can do better.
$204 for a couple. One beer, one cocktail. But had a lot of nicer nigiri and rolls. Skip the wagyu nigiri... it was cooked and tough.
Otherwise, hamachi, salmon, seared tuna, snow crab nigiri...all excellent.
Spider roll, tuna ginger lemon, fire fry, zen spicy salmon rolls all great!
nice ambiance and food
Great food, fresh sushi, and sake drinks were delicious. Service was on the low end, though. The waitress brought out our appetizer after our main course, forgot to put in a couple orders, and did not come by much to refill our drinks.
One of my favorite sushi restaurants! Food was excellent as always. Ambiance was great, and the service was amazing too!
Great sushi & service as always! Favorite roll - Scottish Salmon. Favorite nigiri - Wagyu with quail egg.
Favorite sushi place in Denver.
The food is truly exceptional. Especially the miso black cod.
I had the Omakase (Chef's tasting). Would highly recommend, I'd go so far as to say it was one of the nicest dinners of my life. What made it even nicer was the number of white people around me being weird about being in a Japanese restaurant. Honestly, suspend all your preconceptions and just get the taster. The 9 courses plus one supplementary roll had me completely stuffed!
The food is fantastic, but unfortunately the service was very disappointing. The wait staff was slow to take our order, and the food was quite slow to come out after ordering.
The restaurant has switched to a model where a table doesn’t have a waiter or waitress, instead all staff handle all tables. I do wonder if that’s why our experience was poor..it’s easy to repeatedly overlook a table if there’s a noisy or large party neighboring.
As always the food and staff at Sushi SaSa are great. price value is good and the quality outstanding
I didn’t know sushi could be so good! This is my second time here, the first was nearly a decade ago. I will be back soon! The food was amazing, but really expensive. Service was average.
Great sushi and sake as always. Asked for something not on the current menu and they made it for us.
Excellent everything! It's been a while since I have dined there due to Covid; it was better than ever!! Fish was so fresh and delicious! They accommodated a special order. All in all, an amazing experience!
Wish we had found this place sooner but glad we finally did. Outstanding!
All the food and the drinks were outstanding - highly recommend eating there.
Not a huge place and not a lot of other diners, service was slower than I'd have expected for the price of dinner. Several times left with no food or drink remaining on the table - but the staff were very friendly.
Great restaurant. Extremely fresh sashimi with thick slices and melt in your mouth texture. Quality of the sashimi made me feel like I was back in Japan.
Excellent food and service. Amazing meal. Knowledgeable and hard working staff. Not your everyday sushi experience and highly recommended. The only complaint is the noise. I like a lively restaurant, but the sound and echoey white noise makes It nearly impossible to talk to anyone except the person immediately adjacent to you. Could do with some noise abatement.
Delicious Food, Beautiful Presentation!
I will go back as often as possible
Food quality is excellent. Service is great. Look forward to when the sushi bar reopens
Where to start. I've dined at Sasa several times before but many years ago. I've always felt it had some of the best authentic sushi in town and the only legit Omakase.
I made my reservation and left a note asking if it was possible to have Omakase since the sushi counter is closed. This is a concern as Omakase should be a nearly one on one experience with the chef, its a conversation with the chef, how would this happen from a table?
The short answer is it doesn't. Sushi Sasa needs to strike the word Omakase from their lexicon. What they have on offer is a prefix set menu. There is no conversation, there is no personal engagement and the whole affair is rushed.
We sat down to our reservation 5 minutes early and before drinks were sat down in front of us the courses began to arrive. The pace is best described as frenetic. There were was maybe 2-3 min on average between one course being picked up and another course being plunked down. This speed resulted in about 1/3 of the menu showing up with no beverages for us as we ordered a cocktail which showed up on course 2.5 and subsequently tried to order wine after but our server was missing for 3 courses, so the middle of our meal was enjoyed with water.
These are not Omakase "bites" either, nothing is showing up piece by piece, these are small to medium platters that are self described as "courses" which they most certainly are. Some were great like the "sushi course", some were ok: miso soup & seaweed salad. Several were rough: the salmon sashimi floating in a "tofu sauce" that tasted of supermarket vegan ranch dressing. the beef course that was cloyingly sweet.
We payed the same price for our "tasting menu" that you pay today at Frasca: Total bill of $400 for two people. My expectation at that pricepoint is overall excellence. This wasn't even close on the food and the service was lousy. I'll skip Sasa moving forward.
Nice date night. Food & cocktails were great and service was good! I know a few others commented on the table time and we were told when we sat down the table was reserved for an hour & a half… so that was a first for us.
Fantastic experience. Cory provided excellent, friendly service and great recommendations. Will be back!
Our party of four was celebrating our collective birthdays (all within a few weeks of one another.) When you make a reservation it states the time limit of your reservation(four people=2 hours.) I wish there was a way to extend that. Our party hasn't been out in over a year. We gladly would have put some kind of deposit down. We spent a lot of money and would have probably doubled that had we not felt rushed. We made it through our sushi course and then our complimentary birthday ice creams were brought out promptly 2 hours into our reservation. We didn't have a chance to order from the kitchen entrée menu or the dessert menu. It was amazing food, but we felt extremely rushed especially for an expensive sushi dinner.
Very good food. Excellent presentation
Fine dining experience
Fantastic sushi - creative menu and the sushi was fresh. Service was on point.
Always my favorite sushi in town... the creative rolls with interesting sauces are the best. And the fish is always fresh so the sashimi is to die for!
Enjoyed our meal thoroughly, creative menu, great local sushi spot!
Sushi Sasa has been my favorite for many years. Yummy sushi & great for GF. Great wine & cocktail list too.
Great food and great service!
We had a lovely, lovely dinner at Sushi Sasa. The omakase was delightful (from the beginning to the unexpectedly delicious dessert) and Cory, our server, was an absolute highlight. A wonderful way to celebrate.
Food was amazing, Drinks were unique and delicious. The sushi was on point and I also got the bento box and I loved that more than anything, I'm not sure what was all in there, but I ate it all. Would definitely go again.
Excellent service and great food.
What a spread! Attentive and timely service. Food was awesome. Can be a little hard to hear.
My partner and I went to celebrate a recent promotion at work and were really looking forward to the experience. From the minute we got to the restaurant it felt like we were not a priority for the staff.
We arrived 15 minutes early to our reservation, and told to wait until our reservation time which was no problem, but after waiting past our time, I checked in with the hostess and she had forgotten we were waiting. We were then sat in the back room of the restaurant alongside a large party in a hot room. The restaurant everywhere else was beautifully lit and airy, but we felt like they seated us next to the kitchen in a hot room away from any windows, because they knew a young couple may not care like someone more wealthy and older looking than us.
We felt extremely rushed and unimportant to our server. Our drinks took at least 20 minutes to arrive to the table, only to then realize our server forgot my partners drink. She often came to the table with other people’s drink orders in her hand, doing everything else with one hand and a sense of urgency, like we were inconveniencing her. Our sake came to the table and she didn’t open the bottle or bring us proper sake glasses like other tables had, we were given cocktail glasses. Once our food arrived she never checked in to see if we were interested in ordering more and all the while, we watched her tend to her large party next to us like they were VIP guests.
I very rarely leave reviews, but this experience really troubled me and my partner. This was a special occasion for us where we put aside money that we don’t often spend on dining. The food was delicious, but I can’t stress enough how poor the service was.
I love Blue Sushi. I always enjoy the excellent food and service. Can’t wait to go back
