Russell’s Smokehouse is a nod to an early time, to the spirit of the West and the cowboy tradition of cooking over a slow, low flame. Our specialty is not in the sauce (which is why we don't call it barbecue), but in the rich smoke and the method of cooking.

Russell’s Smokehouse greets Larimer Square visitors with the smoky deliciousness of ribs, brisket, prime rib and a whole assortment of delicious American fare. Featuring house smoked meats, cheeses, traditional and innovative sides and appetizers, the Smokehouse is a fantastic place for large groups to gather and enjoy good food, wine, beer, cocktails and most importantly company! The private dining space is designed to comfortably seat groups up to 45 or 50 guests for standing receptions. Full buyouts are available for up to 75 seated and 85 standing.

Great service from our waitress and the food was very good. I had the pull pork sandwich and the sauces on the table added great flavor. Will definitely come back to try other stuff.

This was one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in a while. The restaurant itself is very cool, in a basement in Larimer Square with a kind of western speakeasy vibe. The food was phenomenal--amazing brisket! The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. It was the perfect way to top off a theater matinee.

Definitely a mixed experience. My cocktail was delicious and so was my shrimp and grits. My husband, however, received his drink in a dirty glass. The waiter offered to replace it but he brought the wrong one (scotch instead of bourbon). Then, there was a long hair in his macaroni and cheese. Overall, the atmosphere feels like a dark basement. For the money, there are a lot better bbq options out there.

Our server Devin was great. She was very accommodating and pleasant. The food was awesome. We had the iceberg wedge salad and it was out of this world. From the pickled onions to the dressing, it was really hard to beat! We split a full order of ribs and took a rib home —- the portions are generous.

The drinks were so tasty and so was the food! They ran out of pulled pork before we got there, but that’s always a good sign that the meat is fresh and prepared in house. Would definitely recommend!

The food was very good, some dishes better than others. The cocktails were good but the beer selection was a fairly bland. The place is an odd space and felt a little grungy for downtown dining.

Mixed feelings on this review. Our experience suggests if you are looking for BBQ with that nice smoky embedded taste, this isn't it. In addition to our meal, other diners meals meats didn't have that notable pink smoke ring. We saw brisket, burnt ends, pork, etc., but no discernible pink smoke ring on any of the meats. Their dry rub is pleasant enough - if not a bit overly salty - where it seems like the only "smoke" is detectable in the salt. The burnt ends were tasty but the salt rub made it taste more like corned beef. And I am still wondering why the kitchen didn't trim the 1" fat off the brisket. The slaw, mac, greens, spoon bread, etc., are well designed recipes, flavorful and complimentary to the meats. This not to suggest they aren't smoking their meats, it's just we found no evidence of it in our meal. Sauces are pleasant but unmemorable. This is one of those - go try it. If you like it, great! If you're looking for that Texas or KC-level of traditional smoked meats, this probably isn't the place for you. Great ambiance and energy. Wait staff is excellent.

Drinks were different and delicious. Food was amazing! Our service was excellent very quick and attentive.
