Russell’s Smokehouse is a nod to an early time, to the spirit of the West and the cowboy tradition of cooking over a slow, low flame. Our specialty is not in the sauce (which is why we don't call it barbecue), but in the rich smoke and the method of cooking.

Thursday night at Russell's Smokehouse was quiet, but good. Funky location gives it a cool vibe, great staff, excellent service, delicious food - shared the beef tips and pork shoulder - both were outstanding. Will definitely return.

We went in with high expectations based on the reviews we read. The service, atmosphere, sides served with the meal, dessert and the mixed drinks were all great. The BBQ itself was definitely not that great. I got the combo plate and all the meat was very dry.

I have never been to Russell's before but my daughter highly recommended it. We started with drinks in the Green Russell with a speakeasy atmosphere. It was wonderful. Have the bartender concoct a drink for you. I wasn't sure what I wanted so he asked what I liked in an alcoholic drink and created an excellent drink for me. The food in the restaurant was wonderful. We had the beef tips with mash potatoes and spinach and also the pork with the cheesy grits. We shared our plates and it was perfect!! Looking forward to my next visit to this wonderful restaurant and bar!

The service here was great! We had a party of 4 and shared a family dinner plate which was plenty for us. I would greatly recommend ordering the cinnamon spoon corn bread, DELISH!!!

Dinner was okay. Wait staff were nice, though a little slow. The Cheesy Bacon Bombs appetizer were amazing ... the highlight of the meal! The combo ribs (beef/Country pork/baby) all tasted the same (same think dry rub used on all?). The Special had a filet (stringy) and crab cake. In the end, it was an okay meal for an okay price.

The night we went was during some event at Larimer Square, wherein all the restaurants were serving food in the street. As a consequence, they offered a significantly limited version of their menu. There was no mention of this on Open Table or Russell's website so it came as a surprise and disappointment. The fact they were focused on participating in this event also seemed to impact the quality of the food as the brisket was drier than I would have preferred. We've had more pleasant experiences at Russell's in the past. However, this most recent one left a bad (and dry) taste in our mouths.

Allie the server was not very good. The restaurant was slow not many customers yet she did not check on our food until i was nearly finished. She did not tend to my refills on my soda and i had to flag down another server to get a refill. Huge pet peeve of mine. I am much more understanding if the restaurant was slammed with customers but that was not the case. She was more interested in flirting with the bar tender.

A hidden gem and part of Frank Bonnano's local empire. You have to expect a fun place with a great backstory and not expect a gourmet-type of experience. some reviews, certainly entitled to their opinion, seem to indicate this wasn't a good match. But if you want good tasty food, BBQ yes (not the sauce dripping kind) or other items (my companion had a special Ribeye with truly awesome mashed potatoes), don't want to pay a small fortune and leave happy, this is worth finding.

We were pleasantly surprised and delighted to find this restaurant. I wished I'd tried more items but what we had was terrific, the service was very good. If we ever get back to Denver we will definitely go there again.

Too dimly lit; probably to hide how filthy the overall environment is. Bathroom was not clean. Light over our table was burned out, so we had to relocate in order to have enough light to read the menu. Quality of the ribs is good, but overpriced comparatively speaking. There should be a dry rub indication up front, as ribs are prepared in several different ways. I won't return. Server was very polite, patient, and courteous, so I left 20%.

Great bbq in a great downtown location. We had the evening special of the 12oz ribeye with a bleu cheese garlic butter topping and lump crab meat and the dinner entree half rack of baby back ribs w/ 2 sides. The food was delicious and fresh! The meat had a great smoky flavor and was very tender!

Tucked in a quiet location "below" Larimer Square, Russell's is always good to stop into for a quick bite, or a full meal.
Went in the other evening for Happy Hour - the ability to buy a single rib is genius! They've also got an array of other food items for discounted prices. Even if they aren't on special, try the Cheesy Bacon Bombs! They sound a little involved, but taste amazing!!
The Burnt Ends entree and the Smoked Beef Tips are also great, but be sure to save room for dessert! The pecan pie is to die for!
We mentioned that we were heading to the Buell after dinner, and our server made sure to keep an eye on the clock so that we got our check and were able to leave in enough time to walk back.

I had brisket, which had nothing from what I am expecting from a good brisket besides the fact that it was beef, and pulled pork, which was dry, too instead of being marinated. My wife had a brisket sandwich with mashed potatoes which was defnitely not prepared with fresh potatoes but with the leftovers from another day.

Over priced for what you get. The restaurant space doesn’t match with the food concept very well. It reads as a sharp steakhouse but in reality is a BBQ joint. Interesting take on grits.

Good Colorado BBQ, nice variety on the menu and several items to choose from. Sides were delicious; so much food, couldn't eat it all. Nice selection of local cocktails and creative drinks, but limited beer menu. Server was awesome but as the evening went on, she was covering the entire restaurant. Very nice place, I would eat there again.

Salmon was dry, it needed a sauce with it. Was charged $2 for a dinner roll; I had asked for one for my son to keep him occupied while we waited for our food... our food ended up arriving before the dinner roll. The wait staff dropped our bill off then left, I had to get up to ask them to split the check then brought them back the receipts. Everyone was very nice was just a little disappointed.

We thought this was a good place to meet our Nephew and wife from Chicago.
Dark, food was mediocre, not much flavor happening with any of the meats!! Atmosphere was horrible!! Would we go back??? h__l NO!!!!! My BAD for choosing the PLACE!!!

You asked if it was a special occasion, at the front door it was Oh yea it’s your second anniversary. Nothing else was mentioned by anybody else. Huge failure. Ribs were over cooked to the extent they were almost uneatable. The pork chop was done well except there was no flavor. The whole experience was very poor. Will never go back.

The food was way to dry. The portions were very small and the sauces weren’t really that great. We can’t eat mustard so we lost 1/3 of our choices. The one sauce is all burning spice the other was fine. The collard greens I had tasted like burnt gristle and not bacon which was sad because I got so little brisket and so much greens. I got the spoon bread with my meal as well it was very boogery. The atmosphere was great and the people were nice. But for almost $100 for 2 people I’ve never been so disappointed sadly.
