The menu was eclectic and our waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. We opted to try a variety of shared plates. Check out the curry chicken, pork belly, and eggplant. Our only disappointment was the lack of dessert options.
What a cool place! The interior is gorgeous! We ate downstairs in the double barrel room, I highly recommend it. Drinks were fantastic, our server recommended some of the flavor infused ice..... a mojito with blackberry sage!
Exceptionally poor ambience. Food was incredibly boring and poor. Service was awkward. Never again.
Yes For drinks. No for foo, overpriced and the waiter got my order wrong two times and I gave up so I just ate the last thing he brought me. Mediocre... It was very empty on a Saturday night. Definitely no need for a reservation.
The food was outstanding. That chicken curry will haunt my dreams.
Great food - Great cocktails! We will be back again.
We sat for 45 minutes, without any acknowledgement- no drink order, no service, nothing. Decided to get up and leave, having dinner elsewhere.
I liked the food, loved the cocktails, it’s a pretty room and the happy hour menu offers good value, but service was a disaster. We waited 35 minutes for a drink refill and our tab, which turned out to be wrong. Manager and server were quick to apologize and comp a round of drinks, but they clearly can’t handle a full house.
First time at Rose and Thorn. Just wasn't impressed with the food or the drink I had. Ordered the empanadas which are fried. The shell was very crunchy but the inside meat was cold. Then they brought the white sangria. The menu said it was wine with fruit, but the fruit was one piece of dried lemon and one piece of dried orange. Just not what I think of when I think of sangria. For dinner, I ordered the chicken avocado salad. It was greens with pickled onions, sliced avocado and chicken salad. There was no dressing on the salad. I don't like a lot of dressing, it was a bit dry for no dressing. To be fair I didn't say anything about any of it, just didn't feel it was worth it. My companion did like their pork chop, but my meal was a bust. Seems like they will need to step up their game to make it in the competitive Denver restaurant scene.
We ordered their special a roasted pig for 6 people. You have to order it 2 days ahead of time. We asked the price and was given the cost when we ordered it and made our reservation. After we ate and the bill came the price was 4 times what we were quoted. We talked to them about it and were told only the chef could give out prices Since we didn’t get a name of who gave us the price we were stuck. They seemed to not really care and just wanted our money
Don’t order the pig wouldn’t even be worth the price they quoted us It was dry and came with no sauces and the sides were mediocre at best.
The only reason I'd recommend a friend is because I would like to give him a second chance. The Ambiance is beautiful the food is good the drinks are great however our service was horrible. When we first got there our server was amazing give us all the information about the Ice Bar in the basement, he talked a little bit too much but that's okay. Then we place our order for our drinks at our food and 30 minutes later we still had no drinks. We then received our food and shortly after we received our food we received our drinks. During this time frame are server never once checked on us. Once he came to our table to bring us our drinks and one of my friends was not satisfied and inform them of this, hey then argued and said well we have two large parties downstairs. Mind you there were maybe three tables full upstairs, regardless I don't care if you have large parties that shouldn't take that affect our experience. The manager jumped in and gave us a free shot and she was very kind and nice and apologetic she did say that she is training a new crew. However once our server was confronted he just ignored us never once came back to our table until it was time to receive our check and this is only after we were waving around our cards. He then comes to the table and starts kissing our butts complementing our jewelry talking about how he hoped we had a great time. Hero in the night for us and the experience.
Food was mediocre. Chorizo and shrimp crostini appetizer was good but could have had chunkier morsels of each. Latin chop salad was limp and way underdressed. Cuban pork chop was cooked to an inch of its (and my) life. Had to saw with a steak knife to cut it. Our server was good but we were next to the display case showing the flavored ices they have and had to listen to wait people go through the options for other guests all through the meal. Double Barrel club downstairs had a great bartender but is not what I would call a speakeasy, which is how they market it. Won't be going back.
Absolutely incredible food and drinks. The layer of flavors in each dish was amazing! You could tell the food was cooked with experience. Drinks are a bit expensive but adding in their ice was so much fun and delicious. My only complaint was our waiter who charged us for food and drinks we didn’t order. After two redos, we had to finally do the bill for the waiter. Nothing was comped for our trouble. It could be just the waiter and not a reflection of the restaurant as a whole. We would go again.
Overall our group had a nice time. The margaritas were really good. Props to the bar tender. The staff there should take the time to explain the ice lab and drink program. Be sure to check out the bar downstairs. It cold and dark. Perfect for a hot summer evening night cap.
Food was great except a couple items were a bit overcooked. Liked the unique ice bar. The ambiance and decor was very cool. The service that night left a lot to be desired. It was a Monday night. There were only two other tables besides us at one point in the entire restaurant so there was no reason we shouldn’t have had attentive quality service the whole night. The young lady who was serving us either wasn’t trained or just isn’t a very good server.
Rose & Thorn is a casual restaurant with plenty of TVs and a range of Latin food options. We were in a light seafood mood, so we had two tasty dishes in the Coconut Ginger Cevice (it needed more a few more tostones to finish it) sharing plate and then shared the Carribean Curry Chicken. We'll definitely be back to try some other menu items, including the Mofongo and the Sancocho, or some of their stuffed Arepas if we're not too hungry.
Enjoyed a lunch meeting there for the first time yesterday and the Pork Arepas sandwich was delicious. I'm Gluten Free so it was nice to have a sandwich option that was so tasty. The shrimp ceviche appetizer was also delicious. We will be going back for sure!
We was truly shocked by the low quality of the food and fairly tacky, sports bar-ish atmosphere when it seemed to be advertising itself as a nice date night plce
For an essentially brand new spot, they are a well oiled machine cranking out fantastic food and drinks with friendly service. We had so much fun on Friday that we popped back in on Saturday for another round of drinks.
Food was marginal and overpriced. Service was poor.
Drinks were great- food was not.
Good place if you like Latin food. Some good Venezuelan dishes. Drinks are good but over priced for Denver.
Amazing revamp of the space. Our server was fantastic. He gave us the rundown on the chefs' backgrounds, the differences between upstairs and downstairs, & the infused ice cubes. Three of us had lunch and all were impressed with the food. The crispy eggplant appetizer was a huge hit. The Ladies' Room also had an unexpected artistic feature I've never seen before but I won't ruin the surprise.
Server gave the distinct impression he wanted us to order and get out. The food was just ok.
All was fine. They charge an employee appreciation fee. It was small and for the kitchen employees. This is great, but it not a request. I don’t think it should be required and it may decrease the likelihood of me going back anytime soon.
Great service, food , drinks, beautiful place, amazing
A new gem to the Denver Culinary scene. There are tons of minute details throughout the entire restaurant. The menu is unique and exploratory.
The staff was very attentive and friendly! The restaurant is super cute and romantic with a Latino flair. The food was amazing. Great tasting Caribbean food. The drinks were so unique and so good, especially with the flavored ice that makes it so different. The drinks change flavor (in a good way) as the ice melts in it. They have over 20 different flavors of the infused ice. Highly recommend!
Food generally had very good flavors but overcooked and tostones too deep fried ( greasy). Picabeano needs pick me up - bland. Needs some work
This new restaurant is really fun. Authentic Latin cuisine that was fun and delicious. Loved the Venezuelan arepas and empanadas
Needed to make last minute reservations and picked this place based on menu, price, and location. Best decision I could have hoped for! The food was amazing! We're all talking about when we'll come back next!
Server tried hard but was poorly under trained and just awkward. Their "cool factor" was their flavored ice but he tried to sell me a flavored ice cube for my glass of red wine - what?!? No thanks. Then we were trying to help him out by asking what flavored ice cube would be good with my boyfriend's vodka tonic (seems easy) and he couldn't come up with anything. Ultimately drinks and our app (tostones) were good. Then we tried to order dinner: my boyfriend wanted the prime rib, I wanted their brisket dish. Nope, they were out of both - weren't told this before we ordered and we were there on a Friday night for a 7pm res. Wow, really bad prep or ordering by their kitchen staff considering they only have 8 items on their entree menu. Ok, so we tried ordering something else: ribeye and the build-your-own arepas. Nope, out of the ribeye also and they weren't "allowing" the build your own arepas (that are literally listed on their menu). Soooo...we finally found something on the menu that they had, me the pork arepas and him the catfish sandwich. Both tasted good, so if we hadn't had all the issues before, my review would likely be better. Atmosphere was good otherwise and we went downstairs to the rum bar after dinner and that was great, so we hope they get it together so they can stick around for a while in the cutthroat Denver restaurant scene.
Wonderful and welcoming service, excellent share plates packed with flavor and beautiful presentation. I enjoyed the tasteful decor and ambiance. Highly recommend!
