Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Good food, some delays when asking for condiments, but was pretty tasty
It was our anniversary and we arrived at our table to a card signed by the staff! The service was knowledgeable and attentive. The only thing I might change was that we waited a while to order and could have used bread or crackers to start. The food was outstanding and unique. Great flavors!
Always enjoy a meal at Root Down! Haven’t been to the Highlands location in awhile, go to airport location as much as possible when flying. Had family in town unexpectedly & we were able to get a last minute table. Wait staff, food, drinks all were excellent!
GREAT service - food was pretty good - a little on the salty side but beautifully presented, unique dishes
We love Root Down
Had really great time. The food was excellent & atmosphere was really nice. Will definitely return! !
Food was good to great. I loved the ambiance of the place. However a grumpy waiter serving us was disappointing and spoilt the mood somewhat..
Everything tastes so fresh and has amazing flavor. The servers are very knowledgeable in letting you know how much food to order and describing the dishes. We love that the menu is always changing, but you can always count on it being delicious. We can't wait to go back!
Out of towners
I had the lamb sliders and white chocolate cake for dessert. Both were very good. The sangria was the best sangria I have had at a restaurant. Everything was presented beautifully with an eye towards the details - in taste and visually.
as we had a larger party, we sat in the west end of the restaurant. there is a vibrant bar area and large screen tv. walls are decorated with old rotary telephones of various colors--restaurant carries them of remodeled old gas station. If dining intimately, would request to sit at the east side of the restaurant which boasts a beautiful downtown view. food organic and is grown as much as possibly locally. food is exceptionally prepared with excellent presentation. quality not quantity.
It’s always great to get to Root Down. We really enjoyed it, as usual. The food, service and atmosphere are always excellent.
Brunch was awesome! Our waitress was awesome! We will be back!
Fabulous food and service. Everything was delicious from the specialty cocktails, to the appetizers and entrees. We were unfortunately too full for dessert. A must go place.
Great food and service. Will be back
Food was good but you felt like they were rushing you out of there. I had just gotten my soup and they were bringing our main entree. I noticed this at a few tables around us too. My husband and I both worked in restaurants for awhile (16 yrs) and our protocol was to always make sure the appetizers were done and cleared before serving the main entree. If you don't want to feel rushed, I'd advised ordering your appetizers and wait for them to arrive before ordering your entrees.
Fantastic and Brianna, our server, couldn't have been more competent and friendly. There when you needed her but not intrusive. Perfect all around!
Great interesting brunch menu, good ambience and bottomless mimosas!!
Great, as always.
Katie S. is the best! So sweet and personable! We love her!
I went for brunch and ordered the Huevos and asked for scrambled eggs. It came with poached eggs and no Pork belly. I set it aside and when the waitress returned I mentioned it was not made correctly. She said "Oh just take the eggs off I'll get you some scrambled" but that was not successful and they broke soaking the bread. I received a smaller plate and tried to move the bread to the new plate to keep the egg yolks off. And well you get the picture. Love the airport location wish I flew out more often. I won't be back to Highlands.
Great food, menu has something for everyone from vegan to meat-centric. Two of us sat at corner table in bar - on a Friday evening we had to nearly yell at each other to converse. Annoying, but not unexpected. Probably much quieter in other sections if the restaurant. Their Complimentary valet is very helpful in that area.
I made a mistake on the timing of my reservation and showed up an hour late...doh! The hostess had no issue with it, got me a table quickly, and my husband and I enjoyed a delicious brunch with impeccable service. Will definitely return next time I’m in Denver!!
Visiting Denver for a few days and I must say that Root Down was my favorite restaurant of the entire trip! Our server, Matt, was phenomenal. He helped guide us through the menu and went above and beyond to make our first experience a superb one. The carrot gnocchi is a must as well as the cauliflower. Great big flavors for the entirety of the meal.
One of our top 5 in Denver for the past several years!
Valet was great and quick. Server was very nice and brought a dessert for a birthday at our table. My veggie sliders were dry and burned. A vegetarian place should have a better veggie slider. Table next to us as we were seated in the bar, was very loud and were smokers that kept going outside to smoke and coming back smelling like cigarettes. I had made a reservation and would have liked to be seated in the dining room and not the bar.
Great evening - We shared two apps, the Callicrate steak and cocktails. It was all quite good. Server was on point and fun to boot. A little rain was accommodated easily.
Great food for sharing with friends. Our server was helpful and gave us two wonderful desserts to help celebrate a special birthday!
Parents were in town and their anniversary was this month as well as ours so we celebrated both that night! Everything was great even for pickier pallets :)
Food was fresh, flavors were vibrant and tantalizing. A place I would highly recommend and return for more! Compliments to the chrf and staff!
Great breakfast and bloody Mary’s
really delicious food - the cauliflower and sliders were noteworthy
Great food!! I really appreciated the waitress' knowledge and the presentation of the food as well.
Amazing variety of food and drinks, great service!
The only thing I didn’t like was how expensive it was. Otherwise - everything was wonderful!
I first went to Root Down the week it opened. (2008?), At that time, the LoHi name was just taking hold, but “LoHood” might have been a bit more real. So seeing a new place being built out just around the corner was a nice surprise. But that was the least of it - we were blown away by how great the food, service and atmosphere were; more like a hotspot inNY or SF (a pity those delicious chickpea fries were just too labor intensive). Fast forward 11 years and the ‘hood has changed dramatically. Snappy restaurants and modern duplexes abound. But Root Down, while constantly evolving their menu, hasn’t changed a bit: the food and service remain at the highest level. Despite opening a spate pf other eateries, owner Justin has managed to keep his first Denver venture fresh and delicious - no small feat. Some menu items (devils on horseback, veggie sliders, arepas, red curry carrot soup) remain because , I imagine, they’re just too good to take off. But new dishes cycle through as well. The Rockfish Tom Kha is spectacular - a riff on the Thai soup that has the best flavors of the traditional but takes it to another level. And Amy LOVES that banana creme brulee pie! And don’t overlook the bar, the cocktails are equally great - some RD classics (Don Draper) remain, with new additions kickin’ it (Ace in the Hole). “No one can stop this flow from flowin’ on!”
We enjoyed brunch at Root Down. The bottomless mimosa and the bloody mary's are delicious. Both my niece and I had the Sunny Egg and Avacado Toast. I loved it. It was healthy and delicious. My niece actually felt it was too healthy so she ordered a side of bacon! Ha! My husband had the Mushroom and Herb Omelette and he enjoyed it very much. Our only complaint was that we waited a long time for a server to come to our table. It was to the point where I had to ask. I would definitely come back as the food is delicious and they offer so many healthy options. It's also in the neighborhood and easy to walk to.
