Even with all the new Highlands competition, Root Down is still a Denver staple.
My favorite spot in Denver! Always amazing food and service!
I think they have some more work to do on their menu items. Some dishes were really unfocused with too many ingredients that muddled the flavor profile.
This place continues to be just terrific. Three girlfriends, celebrating a birthday. The service was absolutely excellent, every dish we ordered was incredibly fresh, innovative and terrific (2 small plates, 2 mains for 3 people), and we shared a birthday dessert (banana creme brulee) which was absolutely transcendent (and I generally HATE creme brûlée!). Hard to beat and worth waiting for. We are making this our permanent gathering place.
Creative, delicious food with that special balance of feeling healthy and fresh, but still deeply satisfying.
Great service: our waiter was friendly and relaxed, knowledgeable, and on time with every step. He was there when we wanted him, and not there when we didn’t. Everything was offered (menu guidance, drinks, dessert) but nothing was pushed. Perfect!
Crab tacos and both soups (Thai carrot, pablano zucchini) were standouts. (We never order soup, it’s boring, except here!)
Good food, nice setting, great service. Priced about right for the quality. Certainly would go again.
The food we ordered (Sweet potato fries, Vegetable "Poke" Salad w/Tofu, & Flat Iron Steak) were all good, but not overly special. I liked this restaurant, but not sure it lived up to the expectations I had for it. I like the sister restaurants Linger and Vital Root much better.
We had been to the Root Down in the Denver Airport but were more impressed with the Highlands location. The interior of the restaurant is amazingly cool and innovative. The menu really has something for everyone, vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters. It is a good place to go when you have a group of people that are a mix of vegan, vegetarian and who like a good steak. It was also great that you could order many items from the menu as a vegan option, including dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience.
I must say.... Rootdown embodies everything a restaurant should be. Love around the food, it's people and the experience. I can't begin to say how much I truly enjoy eating there. The overall experience is absolutely amazing everytime I go and they're so considerate of their guests. 5 stars FOR DAYS!!
Everything was fantastic. Food and service were some of the best we've seen. Vegetarian dishes are almost never given this much care. Our server was so much fun and very helpful.
Met up with some girlfriends. We all enjoyed the flavorful food and atmosphere.
Early Saturday evening dinner was an excellent experience, as always. Tremendous service with an interesting, yet highly satisfying menu. Cocktails are unique and delicious, and the atmosphere is energetic, but comfortable. Don’t let the tight reservation window deter you from treating yourself to this stylish, unpretentious neighborhood joint.
We had a 12:45 reservation and waited to get seated until 1:30p. Otherwise it was a great experience and great food.
The food never disappoints! Be ready for crowds and noise however. But the food is totally worth it. Best in Denver in my opinion.
Root Down has always done a lovely brunch and dinner! we love going out to Root Down when in Denver. healthy and creative food in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Thank you!
A great place for gluten free options. And an excellent kid’s menu.
I love Root Down. The service is always friendly and prompt. The dining experience is fun and gluten free friendly as well as absolutely delicious everytime. I love that the menu is mostly grown in Colorado.
Our brunch was delicious! Will definitely go back and hopefully soon!
Great meal and restaurant.
The ambiance is always fun, but the service was extremely slow this visit, even though it wasn’t crowded. The food was okay, but overpriced and the menu seemed a little stale.
We have lived in denver 2 years And this is by far the best food I have had yet! My hubby and I are both foods and gluten free so finding a restaurant that has lots of gf options plus quality food is rare. Our Waiter went above And beyond to help us - and it was an amazing meal! We will for sure go back.
The corn cakes were amazing and the Tom kai with rock fish was out of this world.
Awesome! Great food and Drinks!
Food was amazing. The kids meal was wonderful - perfectly plated and varied. Drinks were very tasty. Great service. Food came out a bit too slow. It was a bit too dark in the restaurant and the music a bit loud where we were sitting, but overall, it was a perfec birthday dinner.
The food was very very salty and too much spices, it’s look like the Indian food. You have to consider that some people have high blood pressure and they can’t eat this much of salt and spices.
Food was delicious! Service was great, I will return.
We went for the FANTASTIC bottomless mimosa deal, but the food didn't disappoint either. They use unique ingredients to create dishes that have a comfort factor with a twist. The porch was great and we never felt rushed to order or leave the table.
We were excited to check out Root Down, primarily because of the reviews. Unfortunately our dining experience wasn’t great. It took 10 minutes after we were seated to get water and menus.
The food was overwrought and unnecessarily complicated. Forget having a glass of wine with dinner, you won’t be able to taste it.
We were very excited to try this restaurant but none of it worked for us. The flavors in the risotto were excellent, but the risotto was undercooked.
The asparagus and artichoke dish had so many flavors that the phrase, party in my mouth, was derogatory.
The next time I’m in Denver I will dine at Root Down again. The overall flavors and prep were good, not great. Good enough for me to want to try it again, to see if some of the pretentiousness has been dropped.
Parking was difficult. The menu was too eclectic. The price was high. The waiter forgot us after we were seated.
Food was great - but our waiter was slow and inattentive which definitely impacts the overall experience.
Overall fantastic food on the pricier side. Great atmosphere and good service.
Outstanding food, would highly recommend. Foodies will not be disappointed.
The waiter was not polite at all and even told us “we were wrong” about our understanding of the symbols on the menu right out of the gate. Rather than explain what they meant exactly. For being a Vegan and GF establishment they absolutely failed in every level from listening to dietary needs, and educating on how they may modify the meals to accommodate. In the end we left agreeing never to return. Then later we were all three greeted with upset stomachs for a day and a half. And this is a meat and potatoes guy talking here. So no it’s not because I have a sensitive stomach.
I’ve been to Root Down many times and I’ll go again. This time I had the steak and it was delicious. However, the portion was quite small. My friend had it too and both of us remarked that we were still hungry after spending $32 a pop for a meal. The Neopolitan Cake was excellent too. I’ll definitely go back but will not order steak again. There are much better values on the menu.
I have been to Root Down a few times and love the consistency in service and food quality. This time the presentation of the dishes really stood out, but ultimately the flavor combinations won out and will be the reason I return to Root Down again soon.
Great experience! Got seated in one of the best spots on the patio and got to enjoy the sun and the wonderful food. The staff was great and made good suggestions on food. They were very helpful regarding my Celiacs. Cannot recommend enough!
Food was delicious as it always is. Service was great. I really like this place for brunch or dinner.
The service was not only professional but also very warm and friendly. Very welcoming atmosphere and the food is phenomenal!! Definitely on my top Denver restaurant list!
We had a reservation and the table was ready when we arrived on a busy Saturday evening. The Devils on Horseback starter was a wonderful creation. All other dishes were extremely flavorful as well. Great dinner experience
When we booked the table we told them it was our anniversary. We arrived and we're asked if we wanted to sit outside. We said no as we were both chilled. They then sat us at a table right next to the open air patio which was the same as sitting outside (with less ambiance)! They then offered us a booth in the bar! Some special occasion! We took it as nothing else available. Service was horrendous, food was good but we both felt Root Down has gone downhill-was always a special treat for us and we were always made to feel special with attentive wait staff.
This is the best restaurant for using local ingredients that I’ve found. The chef is creative and the combination of flavours in every meal are surprising and delicious. The wait staff are consistently friendly and knowledgeable about the food, and the decor is consistent with the funky theme for the location.
We are new to Denver and had heard about this place. EVERYTHING was perfect...the food, the drinks, the patio, the service, the view, everything! We highly recommend Root Down!
