Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

What Insiders Are Saying
Even with all the new Highlands competition, Root Down is still a Denver staple.
Great food and cool space. The chef and staff were extremely accommodating to one of our party’s long list of food allergies.
Went to dinner with my mom who has a brace on her knee and has to use a walker. They were very accommodating and sat us outside at a larger table where she would be more comfortable. Highly recommend for both the food and the service!
Amazing from the time we stepped in the door until we left!!! Server did a phenomenal job!
A disappointing night. We have eaten at all of their sister restaurants and have enjoyed them all. We were very much looking forward to our first time here. My wife’s cocktail was very good. I had the Beet Down which didn’t have much of a flavor profile. We had the devils on horseback app, which was also good. We both had the beet salad. That is a show stopper and the only thing that was a wow! Excellent salad, I thought about ordering another one for my entree...I should have. For our entree my wife and I both opted for lamb sliders. When served, there were sauces on the plate, but although we had the same entree our plates were not the same. A runner dropped our meal and bolted with no explanation of what anything was and to allow us to ask why they weren’t the same? Turns out the different sauces were for different things, which we never would have known. We eventually were able to wave someone over to explain the sauces and get the missing sauces for my wife. Although the server asked how we wanted our lamb prepared, we both received over well done lamb which dried it out. Definitely, not at their best last night. Because the salad was so good I will try again. I am a sucker for lamb, and judge restaurants on how well it is prepared. Next time I will follow my server’s lead and order what they recommend.
I believe our server's name was Rachel. She was engaging, informative and attentive. She made our dining experience amazing. Rachel delivered our drinks promptly and was patient while we made our food selections. She checked on us often and made sure that our food was to our liking. I especially enjoyed the flexibility of choosing from small plates to share. This gave me the opportunity to try a few of the menu items instead of just one entree. One of the gentlemen in my party was most appreciative of the wide array of gluten-free selections. Kudos to whoever put together the wine list. The wine selections paired well with our food and were well thought out. Thank you for making our dining experience extraordinary. We will return!
If you have an adventorus palate you will enjoy the food selection. Two out of three in our group didn’t care for the flavor combinations. Prices are high for quantity of food. Salads and veggies not included in entrees. Dessert was bright spot!
First time to Root Down and it was absolutely delicious. Waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and drink pairings. Will visit here again.
Awesome food with options for everyone. The patio is a perfect place to get together with friends and enjoy the beautiful Colorado sunshine. No complaints. Root down always exceeds expectations.
I had been to Root Down previously and enjoyed the food immensely. This time the price point didn't match the food. Perhaps it was that I had dined earlier in the week at a similar caliber (star rating and $) restaurant that I thoroughly enjoyed made this experience feel overinflated. Three of us had hoped to order a number of plates that we could share but the portions were too small or awkward to do so. The Artichoke and Chickpea salad is merely swirls of mash layered on the plate. No bread, no crackers, no greens. The only way to eat is was with a tablespoon, which seemed very inelegant and not sharable. The small plates were very small portions, certainly could not share them. Lamb sliders at $17 were two small sliders and fries. Crab & Avocado Tacos, again very small portion at $18. The food was tasty, but I don't feel worth the cost. Walking out after spending $170 on food and drink for three and still felt hungry.
Great food, friendly staff and waiter. Very cool atmosphere, and amazing cocktails!
Food was delicious and service was excellent. We had theater ticket and our server made sure we were out on time. Catered to Gluten & Dairy free people in our group with several options.
I liked the atmosphere - We had early reservations 5pm on a Friday. The restaurant got really busy after but it was not bad. The menu was a little sparse. I ordered the beet salad to share with my sister - I ordered Summer risotto with scallops it was delicious! My sister ordered the Flat Iron Steak - she enjoyed it. The plates were not too big so we had room for dessert.
From Jordan the valet to the hostess and server everyone was great at Root Down. This was my first visit. I was meeting a friend who is gluten free and there were a lot of options for both of us. Would definitely go back.
Food was excellent! Colombian arepa, summer risotto.. hands down one of my favorite restaurants..will return.. highly recommended!
Wonderful service and food eclectic restaurant. Great restaurant
Service was super slow and the staff was upity. It’s been two years since I was last here and it was really disappointing. Definitely a wasted night out.
We were excited to go to Root Down with a group that included vegetarians and meat eaters. The restaurant is nice and trendy, the staff was friendly, and the food is okay. Our service was incredibly slow and the deserts were disappointing. They try to do a lot with each dish - maybe too much.
Root Down is amazing. We had the endless mimosas and herb and mushroom omelets. Great food. Awesome service. Love this place.
We arrived for our reservation 30 minutes early. She said she would see about seating us early. After 35 minutes and all the walk in customers were seated, I asked if they called us. No, she forgot about us! We were then seated in a very noisy area next to large, loud groups and could not talk across the table due to noise levels. We ordered quickly but our food didn't come after 30 minutes and I saw a table open outside. I asked to move and we were moved to a quieter and more open space. Much better. But, still no food after 40 minutes! I had to ask for the pastry in advance. They finally brought the pastry and then soon after, the food. While it started poorly, it ended with a comfortable place to eat and talk and good food. Every other visit has been nice, but this one was lacking...
I and my family were there for my sister's birthday. I've been to both Linger and Vital Root, also in the same restaurant group, and theuve all been excellent. So I knew that Root Down would be the same. Its an extremely noisy restaurant; no sound proofing that I could tell. But the vibe, service, and food, especially, are worth it. Next time, though, I'll choose to sit on the patio.
Root Down is slipping...
Food and drinks were all amazing. I will be dreaming of the summer risotto with scallops.
Food took over an hour to come out and then everything was cold. The pancakes were TINY. Tiny portions and too expensive.
We went for my birthday brunch and had the worst service. I understand that it was a holiday weekend so I have a strong feeling that the restaurant was under staffed, but that does not excuse the server being dismissive, and then rude. The worst was that she clearly forgot to put our order in and instead of owing up to her mistake, blamed the kitchen. It was clearly not the kitchens fault as they would have gotten out the food much faster if they had been notified of her mistake. The manager did comp our drinks, but it did not make up for the service that our waitress continued to give us even as we were simply trying to pay so we could leave. On top of that, there was a very loud bachelor party that was sitting on the patio. They would frequently be chanting and pounding the tables. They also staged a pretend fight in the bar area with one man ending up on the floor. All in all, I will never go back and plan to spread the word about the poor dining experience.
Delicious food. Friendly staff
Great food, great service, love this restaurant.
Great as always.
Root down never disappoints! I love the food and drinks. This time we also indulged in desserts that were gorgeous, delicious, and gluten free! What a treat!
We had an absolutely fabulous dinner, probably the best dining experience all year. We loved the sustainability aspect of the restaurant and the multiple choices of organic, locally sourced menu options. I only wish I could’ve eaten more!
Have always heard great things about Root Down, our experience lived up to the hype! Great drink selection, and the salad, small plate, and entree were all great. We’ll
definitely be going back.
I'm hoping this was an off night for Root Down. We checked in early. The hostess asked us to wait, which was fine. Then, when I checked back in with her, it was as if she had completely forgotten we were there (it was not extremely busy, either). We were seated inside, which was ok, though our preference was outside and that's what the reservation was for. Everything was SLOW. Getting drinks. First course. And then an interminable wait for main course. The manager came by after a very long time to let us know that our food was almost ready. Then, when we were ready to leave, it was difficult to get the waitresses attention because she was chatting with another server. The food is quite good, though the portions were on the small side. The service was inexcusably inattentive and slow, even though when the waitress was right in front of us, she was very good. But, she just didn't check in often enough and the kitchen was obviously not working well that night either. Too bad. RD has been very good in the past.
Came for brunch with 5 friends. Food was delicious and service was exceptional! This meal was a highlight of our trip to Denver.
Ask for a table on or even just near the outdoor deck - we were inside but very close to the deck, lots of natural light, some breeze, and we were happy as clams. The server had an appealing laid back personality but was also very prompt. Order the Jackrabbit slim cocktail if you like veggies or herbaceous cocktails. Order the Mushroom Herb Omelet or Bfast Burrito for decadent fare. Order the Beet Arugula salad for healthier fare.
Thank you for accommodating us for the time I requested. Very much appreciated!
We have dined here often, usually for special occasions. This time unfortunately the food was a bit a disappointment. Everything was fine, but nothing was really good. A let down for what was once our favorite special restaurant especially given its price.
Hype was big around Root Down, and then sadly the experience was a big let-down.
Food was overall pretty uninspired and unfortunately nothing like the complete package that we were expecting.
We enjoyed a relaxed wonderful evening with great food.
Had a great time. It was my son's 30th bday and they had a card for him and a dessert. Complimentary valet was awesome as it was a busy time and finding parking was tough. Waitress was good but none of us really understood her description of how to order. It was nice that the dishes came out one at a time so we could enjoy what was on the table.
Enjoy being able to have healthy vegan option when eating out. Plenty of other options as well. Staff were excellent. Service great. A little pricey but not outrageous. Easiest way to park is to use their valet service.
Terrific food, loved the patio, great service. Maybe a few dollars more than necessary, but very nice flavors. I had the Rockfish, was delicous but need to be 10-20ºF warmer
