Orange Hill Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We went there for thanksgiving brunch. We had been there 7 years ago on same occasion and it was a great experience then. This time was a lot less food choices were offered. Turkey was terribly dry and prime rib was mediocre. Oysters, muscle plate was filled with empty shells and even though several people requested to have it refilled, they did not refill it for over 3 hours and at that time they only added some potatoes and corn to the empty shells. Whole salmon was bare to the bones for the three hours we were there and it was not replaced. For $65 per person it was quite a disappointment.
As being a chef I always wanted to try this restaurant. As for working for McCormick and Schmitz I would think that they would serve the same service. My general manager told me to come and try out the food here at orange hill restaurant. I was amazed how the view was so amazing to experience with my wife. I would recommend to come on a dinner date especially for a anniversary or special occasion.
Wow, what a wonderful view, and the food was very good as well as the service. The bar is nice with a swanky vibe. I suggest arriving before your reservation time and enjoying a drink in the bar while you wait. Great for a special occasion. Go at night for a breathtaking view of Orange County. I can’t wait to go back.
Our server, Claudia, was charming and warm, with great efficiency. She made sure we were comfortable and stopped by often to check up. The food was fine, it always is, but she made the experience for all five of us. One note: I wish you all still had lamb-cop lollipops on the menu. I used to bring people up there just for those.
We had a group of 10 for a birthday reservation at 7pm. We did not get seated until 7:20pm, and when we were seated outside everyone was cold and uncomfortable since they didn’t have enough heaters available for everyone on a chilly night. It took some time to get moved indoors, and the service was lacking there as well. Bread finally hit the table at 840pm, and our dinner came out immediately after some 1h45mins after our reservation time.
Overall it was a bad experience but the food was great once we got it. The service was lacking, perhaps due to a Sunday wedding reception that night.
I would not recommend anyone go unless they confirmed there was no reception that night, and wear warm clothes if you care to sit outside.
LEAVE YOUR KIDS AT HOME! There is a time and place for kids. This restaurant should NOT allow children in evening dining.
I wanted a restaurant where we could get dressed up, drink fine wine and eat a good meal. An overall UP SCALE dining experience. From the minute the valet parks your car you feel this is a nice high end restaurant. We started in the bar for a cocktail waiting for our table. The bartender was very accomodating, drinks good, atmosphere was great and the fireplace was glowing. The view is incredible! Our table wait was 15 minutes longer than our reservation time, but we had arrived earlier in case we could be seated sooner. It had been over 45 minutes. The bartender provided us with a complimentary drink to off set the wait. That was really nice. We had a great view table, the server was prompt and courteous. Our food was delish, the presentation was wonderful, the wine the server reccomended was perfect. They even brought us a desert to celebrate our anniversary on a chocolate scribed plate. (we still order two deserts.) An employee even complimented my dress that I was wearing. My only complaint would be this.....Evening dining should be adults ONLY!!! there was a table behind us with a family that had two YOUNG kids with them. Thankfully they were well behaved and did not disrupt our dining, because it could have been really bad. The other event in the next room had kids running around the restaurant playing hide and go seek in the eating area and under the tables. I was completly irritated with the lack of supervision and that they were able to run a muck like they were. I mentioned it to the server who promplty validated my complaint as he felt the same way. It was that disturbing having all these kids and juveniles running around. He said he was on his way to speak to the manager. Shortly later the group left and all was calm again. The view is amazing, food good, atmospere great for a special event or just dinner. Dont bring kids!
Very disappointed with the service and the food quality. Not sure if they are under new management again, however our waiter was unsatisfactory and not very professional. In addition, they food buffet was not as good as it has been in the prior years. The food was not hot under the buffet. COuld use improvement. I am a local and go for HH in the bar most of the time. I would not recommend for dining due to the price i would expect much better
Worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Reservation was for 7:15pm, rushing to get there and we didn't even get seated till almost 8pm. I called to confirm we would be seated by window seeing as that's the "big hype" of this restaurant, the view. However, even after waiting so long for our table we get seated right in the middle, no view and crowded space. The last straw did it, when the waitress came over after 15 mins of being seated. Not only did it take forever to get served, we ordered ONE drink and even that took almost 20 mins. Unfortunately, we were already fed up and did not even order. Who knows how long that would've taken. Overall, super disappointed with this visit.
I had heard that this place was all about the view but that the food and drink fell short. This must have been old news, because we thought the food and drink was great! Amazing crab crake...really good bread and butter, and we loved the scallops and pork chop.
It was our first wedding anniversary and we noted that when making the reservation. They seated us at a window seat like we had asked and brought us out a surprise anniversary sweet. The only negative was that they sat us right next to a large party with kids...not the most romantic spot. But that's okay. We will be back.
We went here to celebrate my wife's birthday. It is one of our most favorite restaurants. The Chateaubriand for two is outstanding. My wife is very discriminating on her steak . She insists that this is the best steak anywhere we have been. The preparation at the table with a rum flame is impressive. My only complaint is that we arrived a half hour early for our 5 pm reservation and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant. My wife went to inquire about the hold up and she was given no clue. Finally we were seated in a large empty dining area. Five minutes later another party with a young baby and two children was seated right next to our table, rather than allowing for reasonable separation. The hostess needs to step up her game. After being seated it was a very pleasant experience, topped off with a delicious birthday brownie.
A great place to visit to enjoy the gorgeous views of OC while relaxing at the patio with a cozy warm fire. What a shame that the food and service has declined so drastically over time. The special meal for a friend's special birthday turned out to be a disaster.
The Pom martini tasted more like raspberry juice and the Pom glazed ribs were overlooked rubbery meat with a few pomegranate seeds on the plate. The rest of the entrees were sub par as well.
And to make it even more memorable - the server forgot to bring out a celebratory dessert for my friend - this after several reminders during the online reservation, at check in and after dinner.
Shared my embarrassment and frustration to the manager after my friend left - who casually suggested we should come back for another chance. Oh well. Disappointed with the lack of customer service.
Beautiful views, ambient atmosphere, delicious food, and wonderful service just about sums up our experience at Orange Hill. My husband and I came here for the first time on our 9 year wedding anniversary a few days ago (11/13/2017) and were more than impressed. We will definitely be returning in the future!
Incredible views of course, but the service was excellent (Thanks, Troy!) and the food was very good. We had a grand time during the 20 minutes in the bar while we waited for our table - the bartender was as knowledgeable about the various specialty - and non-specialty - cocktails as well as the wine list as I have recently experienced.
Our appetizers were, well, appetizing (although I cannot remember what they were ;-). C'mon, it was last week after all!
The entrees were delicious - chateaubriand shared by 2 of us, and prime rib and chilean sea bass for the other 2 - and the dessert we shared - creme brulee (x2) were also very tasty. The espresso could have been a tad hotter, but let's not be picky, picky.
My only 'complaint' and not much of one is that we brought a favorite bottle of wine and the corkage fee - $25 - seemed a bit high.
We will be back again, for sure.
The view is spectacular. Despite having reservations, we had to wait 15-20 minutes to be seated on a Saturday night. There was a lot going. Once we were seated, there were several empty tables around us, but it still took at least 10 minutes for anyone to come to the table with menus and water. We felt overlooked for the first 30 minutes at the restaurant, but were keeping a positive attitude by enjoying the amazing view. Finally, a server was assigned to our table and began to pay attention to us and the experience improved. Food was very good quality and we ordered from the sunset menu, which was a good value for the high quality of the food.
The views can’t be beaten, but there isn’t much else that makes this a good restaurant. It took 20 minutes to seat us, our server did the best she could but obviously had too many tables assigned to her. Food was highly average, even at half the price I would have been disappointed. Water was never filled up, had to ask for everything - including more drinks. We’ve wanted to try this restaurant for a while, glad to tick it off the list but we won’t ever go again. It must work for some people though, it was very busy.
