A Family Tradition for Over 90 Years

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tearoom. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.

Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, cup of soup, side salad/and or cherry rhubarb, four pieces of fried chicken with mashed potatoes smothered and a choice between corn or cabbage. For dessert: choose between Boysenberry or Apple pie. We offer other dishes such as Roasted Chicken, Specialty Salads, Salmon, and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.

Honestly, the chicken wasn’t that bad, but the gravy was terrible and so were the mashed potatoes plus the corn was bland and overcooked. The soda tasted terrible too. And for the proce, I’d day not worht it at all

Worst chicken ever! Diners beware. Cheap, overpriced, flavorless chicken. Corn tasted like it came out of a can. Kids meals were cheap, processed chicken fingers. They "fill" the gap with a large plate of processed biscuits and jam, and mashed potatoes with canned gravy. The slice of pie was cheap and processed... for a restaurant "famous" for its chicken, it definitely disappointed. This is a tourist trap for overpriced garbage. Lesson learned, we will never return.

There was a group of four of us. We all had the chicken dinner. It was so dry! I’ve had better chicken at KFC.

Our Father's Day Brunch on Sunday June 15, 2025 was disappointing. There were not enough staff to sufficiently attend to us in a timely manner. They were very friendly and I could tell were working very hard, our wait were tending to too many tables. We honestly felt so bad for them. We could see them running around like crazy, bringing food to tables, delivering drinks, taking orders, checking on tables. Given that it was a holiday, the parties were all very large as well. The food was very disappointing as well. The dinner salads were very small, the ranch dressing was very salty and tasteless. The fried chicken was very rubbery and had no flavor. My nephew almost choked on his chicken as it was so rubbery and dry. The portions of our entree's and sides were very small and could tell they were plated in a rush. I also asked for a plate so my nephew could try a piece of waffle I ordered and was told there would be a charge for the extra plate- just an empty extra plate. We had dinner there about 6 months ago and the food was so good but we could all tell that the food this time was very different. We definitely will not be eating there again as there are many other restaurants in the area. We are Knott's annual pass holders and do enjoy all of the food in the park. This was very disappointing and we did not expect the food to be so bad. Please hire more staff so they are not over worked. We knew that the poor service and bad food was not a reflection on their efforts.

The chicken was delicious—crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The gravy wasn’t exactly my favorite, but it was still decent and didn’t ruin the meal. We also ordered the cabbage and the rhubarb, which were both flavorful sides and a nice change from the usual. And of course, we couldn’t skip the boysenberry pie—sweet, tart, and the perfect way to end the meal. Great service and a fun, nostalgic atmosphere. Just wish everything had come out piping hot. Still, a solid experience worth revisiting.

When we got seated, the fire alarm kept going off and it was so irritating. No one offered any explanation or comfort. Then when we ordered we asked for separate checks and our server said that it would cause a 15 minute delay in our order and his attitude went from good to bad. Then we started getting some food in and the delay that he was talking about never existed so he was lying. We received our chicken noodle soup and couldn't find one noodle in it . It was like chicken gravy soup. Then one of the salads we ordered was so big and unappealing and had a hair in it, that we sent it back and had it removed from our check. Also a piece of chicken had a weird red spot in it and the server tried to convince us that it was undercooked. Why are we getting undercooked chicken, they have been cooking chicken for 50 years. They did replace that piece of chicken. When we received our check, it had a added dinner on it from a different party that we had to have removed. Hopefully this will help someone decide where they want to eat.

After eating here for many years, we were sad to see how the portion sizes have dwindled. My husband’s salad was tiny! The biscuits used to come on a big plate, wrapped in a napkin. Now, you get 4 on a small plate. When we asked for more biscuits, our server seemed bothered. My husbands salad said the chicken was dry and he didn’t seem to enjoy his meal. For $26, it is not the same value it used to be.
