Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner
Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tea room. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.
Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, side salad, choice of cabbage or cherry rhubarb, three pieces of fried chicken and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. For dessert: your choice of boysenberry pie or boysenberry sherbet. Many other dishes are also available including grilled chicken, salads, open-faced sandwiches and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.
The service was great. Your hostess was very accommodating. We are from Hawaii and every time we come into town we make it a point to enjoy your chicken dinner. I was happy that we didn’t have to wait in a long line.
A long time favorite that has become even more loved since the entire restaurant was remodeled. Cozy atmosphere and delicious food - same great quality I remember as a child.
We have a group home and we took the guys to Knott’s Berry Farm. Our first meal was mrs Knott’s chicken dinner. Everything was good with great service. Btw, I’d share my meal next time as it was so much food. You won’t leave hungry.
You get a lot of food for your$21.99, but it's not outstanding. And it's way too much for one person. The biscuits were under baked but by that time, my husband and I just left them. The chicken was only okay but the potatoes were good. Unfortunately, the waitresss started things off badly with being quite rude. So again, unfortunately, we would not return to this iconic establishment .
Such fond memories of this place for many years!! The chicken dinner is still wonderful, with plenty for you to take home for another dinner! We had lots of biscuits, which were still hot! We opted for the soup over the rhubarb (typically its always the rhubarb), since it was a cold, rainy day. This was the first time we had the soup and it was great! The salad was OK. Then the entree came out with chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and cabbage. It's pricey- almost $100 for 4 of us, but well worth it for the experience and memories! Really good service!!
I love Knott’s chicken house. We use to eat there all the time but we have moved away. We came back for a special occasion. The food was still delicious 😋 and the service was great! We missed the old layout (creepy old floors) decorations and uniforms ( the aprons and bonnets).
It had been well over 15 years since I was there. I had a craving for chicken pot pie. The menu was a little confusing -on 1 pageit stated, "all meals include ... it might have been a strand of plastic from a container? We showed 1 of the servers & the next thing the manager came over apologized & said our meal would be "comped" & would get us a new pot pie. The 2nd one was fine! lol I would still go back again & again....& still recommend this restaurant! The food was awesome!!! :)
Most expensive meal my family and I couldn't eat during our vacation. Each of us (4 adults) got different meals and none of us were happy.
It was my grandson's 7th birthday and our waitress was SO KIND and then all of them coming to Sing Happy Birthday and he was so surprised how they Knew his name when they sang it. The whole experience was So Special and ALL the people working there that night were FANTASTIC and SO SWEET AND NICE - made it a Very FUN AND MEMORABLE TIME
Good good and quick service. Chicken was excellent and we could have shared a meal
Really good homestyle food! A little dark inside. Service was ok - we had to hail down our waiter to get dessert and our bill. I would eat here again.
Portions were big. Not what others hyped it up to be. Did'nt think the value was there. The grease smell is kind of gross.
Our waiter Tim was excellent! He was so friendly and made us feel like we were home.
The food was really bland. Only thing good was the biscuits, boysenberry jam and boysenberry sherbet
Plenty of food, excellent biscuits, but rhubarb was undercooked. I was very much looking forward to the meal since I had eaten there several times about 55 years ago.
Not quite as remembered but enjoyable nonetheless.
Love his place been coming here since I was a little girl.. been a few changes .. but all for the good! Good food .. good value.
I remember that the chicken used to be flavorful and tasty. This time...so BLAND! Everything was bland.
Tried seating ya attached to another parties table, Waiter didn’t pay attention to us, the bus boy was very attentive. I bite into a raw piece of fried chicken, blood came pouring out. My daughter didn’t receive her dinner till 20 minutes after we received ours.
Totally disappointed with this place as we have knotts passes and love to end our evening at Knotts kitchen. Not sure if we will be returning.
Terrible service. Server was perjudice. It took a lne time for her to give us our desert or bill
From the front desk, to the server, to the food , everything was excellent! Of course the food was great. The chicken dinner was delicious and filling. Our server Nadja was so cordial and attentive. A delightful server who enhance our meal experience! The atmosphere was a very homey, just like you're in your own dining room . We can't wait to come again.
Food was ok , chicken was abit dry. Boysenberry pie was my favourite dish out of the whole meal .
Service was great .
the chicken was not seasoned well, however crust was crisp, chicken inside was moist. The mashed potatoes were horrible tasting, the chicken soup very good. The best was the boysenberry pie, unfortunately my aunt ordered her pie ala mode and her pie was not heated. Drove 50 miles for not so good meal, I'll stick to KFC.
The server was perfect very attentive. I had a wonderful lunch experience with an old friend. Thank you!
I’ve always loved Knotts chicken dinners and used to come here often. I moved further away so now it’s rare. I met friends for lunch and this was a nice idea. The server was good and the drinks, rolls and soup/salad came promptly. Lunch was another story-after waiting what seemed like quite a long time, the server said they were out of chicken breasts and if I wanted them instead of dark meat it would be another 20 min or so. Knotts chicken out of chicken? Or was the ticket misplaced? Anyway, I got the dark meat. The chicken was ok, very small pieces, not really fresh. The mashed potatoes and corn were cold. My friends said the chicken & dumplings and the sliders were ok, not great. Overall not a good experience, probably will pass going back again. Disappointed.
The restaurant is freshly remodeled and nicely decorated. Our server was attentive and quite pleasant. However the food was disappointing. Two of the three entrees our group ordered were served just warm not hot. This experience did not match our expectations or past experiences.
My boyfriend had an amazing time and a wonderful dinner here for my birthday. Our waitress Janet was so sweet and kind and I wanted to say that she did a wonderful job serving us, as well as the rest of the staff being sweet and friendly! Keep up the good work!
The service was very very painfully slow. Our waiter was sweet but completely over worked! Food was very very good!
Fried Chicken was dry, chipotle salad bland, wings were saturated and soggy all over priced!
Food was way overpriced for the quality. Similar to cafeteria style food. Cold mashed potatoes on everyone's plate. Corn tasted like old frozen corn with way too much salt.
Would not recommend.
Hadn't been in for dinner in years after it seemed the restaurant was falling into disrepair and the food quality had decreased. Was very pleasantly surprised by the great service and good food. As a healthy eater, I found the chicken to taste fresh and not overly season or fried.
My family really enjoyed their fried chicken and my grandson enjoyed the chicken pot pie, finishing it to the last bit. I was less excited when I saw the special diets menu without any prices !
Please remedy that. My poor waiter had to go dig up all the prices for me and there was a delay for us.
Also, the ranch dressing was strange with an odd jelled consistency and the flavor was not exactly ranch. I have had better almost anywhere. The biscuits have too much baking powder and you can taste it.
So sorry to bring these things to your attention, but ranch dressing and biscuits are easy to do well, so please look into these items.
As always the pie was generous and delicious. Keep it that way please.
It has been a while since we had been there. The entire dining experience was definitely different. In a sentimental way, we kind of missed the old restaurant, but the new furnishings were very nice. The food was great as were the biscuits and jam... the staple of our visit and driver of some of the memory of our last visit. We would recommend it and will definitely be back next time we are down.
Staff was amazing, service was fantastic. We were really looking forward to having fried chicken and they didn't disappoint!
Very slow service. Spent over 2 hours there. Never received our dessert which we paid for. In the end we were just thankful to leave.
Went to try out the chicken and meet all my expectations
Long wait for food (over 1 hour).
Food was good and plentiful but pricy. Soda drink costs at $5.00 is crazy
This place is well known for it's fried chicken dinner, which is beyond filling! While not the best fried chicken I have ever had, it's good for what it is. I would not drive out of my way to go here, but I am glad I had the experience. Of all the items I had, the chicken noodle soup was by far the best (with the bosenberry jam and biscuits a close second).
Food was good but served cold. The chicken pot pie was almost congealed and the gravy on the mashed potatoes on the Original Dinner had a skin. It was busy and service was slow so it must have waited a while before being served. It tasted very good, but too bad it was served cold.
