Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner
Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tea room. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.
Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, side salad, choice of cabbage or cherry rhubarb, three pieces of fried chicken and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. For dessert: your choice of boysenberry pie or boysenberry sherbet. Many other dishes are also available including grilled chicken, salads, open-faced sandwiches and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.
The place at 7:01pm was dead. The waiter rude, as if we we're wasting his time being there. We ordered the Knott's traditional fried chicken dinner. Chicken noodle soup very good. Salads had too much salad dressing or there wasn't enough salad to the amount of dressing. Fried chicken no seasoning, no flavor. Absolutely bland. Mashed potatoes and gravy also lacked seasoning and flavor. Reminded me of elementary school paste glue. Corn is from a can and not fresh. Cabbage surprisingly good. Boysenberry pie just ok.
Overall... Don't waste your money on this legend.
Our server was very good but while my husband was drinking his water he discovered that his glass has lipstick on it and was dirty! He called for the manager and nothing was made right. All we got was an "I'm sorry". We won't be coming back. The hostess was rude as well. She became irritated when we asked to be moved to a table further away from the hall entrance. Our server was wonderful though!
We, my parent, husband and I, have visited Knott's Berry Farm and Mrs. Knott's Kitchen for years. I like the updated look in the restaurant and even the waitress' apron. It felt fresh and clean. I had the Tri-berry Salad. It was yummy. The waitress had a good balance of sass and kindness. Will recommend to others.
Fried chicken was plentiful, crispy and delicious!! The complete meal is worth the cost at a theme park. Tossed salad was fresh!!! The staff is friendly and our server Jeff was great! Best part, they had vegan options!!!!
The food is okay but is overall very bland. The service we received from Christian was absolutely terrible. He kept blaming the kitchen for being backed up even though people who were sat down after us received their meals before we did. Christian did not thank us and rarely checked in to see how we were doing. We notified a manager as we were leaving and she confirmed our suspicions that kitchen was not backed up at all. Our poor experience can solely be blamed on our inept server.
Returning here after coming 62 years ago as a child! I remembered how much my daddy loved that boysenberry jam. He spoke of it often!
Such a special time to remember those special memories!
Very slow inattentive service.
1 dinner came abt 10 min after the other 5 of us got our chicken dinner.
Chicken and biscuits really good, everything else so-so was really good
We request Birthday and we request ice cream with pie....no ice cream.
The services was poor. The restaurant is dirty. The food was cold and cutlery was dirty. The air conditioning was not working on a very hot day. The bathroom needed attention badly. One in my party ordered the pasta and it was terrible. Suggestion be sure the host/hostess in front are not just standing around clucking, talking, and laughing instead of helping the customers. I know it’s a chicken house but please!
Excellent tradition! The food was great and you get s lot of it. A must stop if you are a Knotts, or anytime!
Unfortunately, after the initial fresh bread with butter and boysenberry jam, which was delicious, the food pretty much went downhill from there. The salads were wilted, the fried chicken and roasted chicken we’re unseasoned. Apparently the fryers were down the evening we went, so it took a really long time to get our food. Even the boysenberry pie was somewhat lackluster. It seems like it would be bursting with boysenberries but it was lacking in filling and definitely no fresh boysenberries in it. The service was mediocre. For $25 a plate I was hoping for more. Wishing I could have traveled back in time and tasted Mrs. Cordelia Knott’s home cooking.
Malfunction in kitchen (fryers) resulted in slow service. Otherwise, great visit.
Everyone is very nice. Our server Ray was Excellent
1st time back after 25 yrs from a childhood trip. Dinner was as I remembered, lot of goodies served in a nicely remodeled dining room, excellent waitress
The buns were burnt; the dumplings were hard and tasteless. Was a great place years ago, but lost its touch. Very expensive for not the best quality anymore. The soup was very good
The food was super disappointing. I went there as a child and remember the food being (especially the biscuits) being pretty good. The food was bland. the corn tasted frozen and looked that way too. The chicken was floury and had no flavor. Mashed potatoes and gravy were also bland. The potatoes tasted like instant potatoes with a matching consistency. I brought my daughter there to have an experience with her...the vanilla ice cream was the best part.
A family favorite from years past and Mrs. Knotts continues to be a fun place for our family to get together. The interior was freshened which is an improvement. Traffic flow in the restaurant is improved. The food continues to be a delicious, filling meal - always some to take home. Prices have gone up but I think are fair for what is received.
Absoutely, that fried chicken is BEST plus WOW large combo! We really enjoyed with our friend. Many thanks for front desk and staff for last minute reserve with 12 people . Staff are amazing and friendly!!!
All of you guys make our night GREAT! (from Deaf Ministry)
It used to be really good but since they have changed things the food quality and taste is just not there any more.
No longer owned by the Knott family. Brought family from out of town and remembered how good it used to be. Everything from the reservation to the boysenberry pie (which tasted like grocery store quality) was not at all what we remembered. Salad was brown like it had been sitting out for some time as well as the mashed potatoes which had a film over it and the gravy was jellied. Will not go back and would not recommend to anyone.
Excellent service. Couldn’t have had a better waiter.
Amazing service and the food was to die for!!!
Do not pay for chicken at Mrs.Knotts...better off to go to KFC or El Pollo Loco.
Whenever we are in the LA area for weddings, funeral's, or vacation, we eat at Mrs. Knott's. We make reservations, pay for parking, feast on Mrs. Knott's chicken. Then go shopping at Knott's Market for all our Boysenberry treats. Before leaving we order chicken to take home for ourselves and neighbors. We never forget to take home a pie as well!!
Made booking staff just talking upon arrival and had to wait 10 mins (plenty of free tables and venue not busy at all) Food very average had to find staff to ask for our bill.
Would not go back or recommend
Just finished my leftovers.....almost as good as fresh. We celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday....it was perfect...can't wait to do it againn!
Waitress was very good. Noise level bad. There were only a few people seated and found too hard to talk. Can’t imagine being there when it was crowded. Maybe be better to cut the music.
We waited 25 mins for a server to come to our table. Other people came in after us and were helped right away while we sat waiting and waiting. Asked multiple people and no one was any help. Then waited 20 mins to pay after we received our check.
Just what we expected - lots of excellent food! Would have liked music that was more relaxing (too much beat).
Chicken was not tender & juicy on the inside. I did enjoy the biquicks
The meals are served in courses. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I had the fried chicken dinner. They give you a side, a salad, biscuits, and dessert. The boysenberry sherbet was incredible.
We had a great time. We were forgotten about for 15 minutes but after that we had prompt service and the food was stellar.
At first the menu looked expensive but considering it’s Southern California and the meals include salad/soup/desserts/rolls etc its not so bad. Lots of food and worth the 20-24 dollar price per dinner. If your a light eater you could even share an entree and be satisfied. Very enjoyable experience on a weeknight.
Good experience. Open table took the stress out of a possible long wait!
Went there for breakfast with my family of five. Fried chicken was bland, kids meals are expensive at $9 per meal, my husband’s omelette was missing an ingredient, hashbrowns were bland, and I saw the table next to us turn away an entrée as well. On the bright side, biscuits were good and the waitress was nice. Overall I cannot recommend this place.
This was the worst experience I’ve ever had dinning they brought the food before the drinks they served all the food at once the soup salad breAd main course and dessert we had no room to eat by the time you got to the main course it was cold I had reservations they sat us in the bar !!! Really not even a dinning room I was so disappointed and will never go back
Need to get the crumbs off the fabric bench seat in between guests
Fantastic atmosphere. The fried chicken is some of the best i’ve had, and the staff is always very friendly and efficient.
Everything was great except it was alittle warm in the area they sat us at.
Been here before and love it. We just happened to book on a day when a family was clearly having a rough day. No one’s fault. Just took awhile to get service. But when they finally came it was super great!
