Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner
Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tea room. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.
Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, side salad, choice of cabbage or cherry rhubarb, three pieces of fried chicken and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. For dessert: your choice of boysenberry pie or boysenberry sherbet. Many other dishes are also available including grilled chicken, salads, open-faced sandwiches and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.

We went on a weekday with little crowd and were seated immediately which we enjoyed. The food was delicious and the service was great. We will definitely come here again soon and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and shopping.
Great food, great service and pretty awesome atmosphere.
We decided to get dinner at 5pm instead of our reservation time at 630pm. When we arrived I asked to get seated as soon as possible. They told us we would be seated closer to our reservation time because they were busy. Around 545, I asked there are any way to get seated already and they said we had to wait tillbcloser to our reservation time. As we were waiting, we overheard a party that wanted to do a walk in and they were told that wait was going to be 45 minutes. When I went back around 6, they still told us there's no seats available and to wait till closer to our reservation time again and expect a text. So we walked around the stores waiting for the text. Around 635pm we didn't get a text yet so I went back to ask about the seating. She gave me a very puzzled look as if she forgot about our reservation. We finally got seated close to 640. That's close to an hour and 40 minutes wait. I don't understand why they couldn't have just cancelled our reservation and treated us as if we wanted to do a walk in and just wait 45 minutes vs 1 hour and 40 minutes. And why didn't we get a text at 630pm our table was ready? Just based on this experience, we never want to come back and we're spreading the words about this to our friends and family. Unacceptable.
This was our first visit. We were very much looking forward to enjoying a meal and the experience. The food was good. At check in the hostess was friendly and efficient. We were seated within a minute of checking in for our reservation. After that it sort of went downhill. thank goodness the food was delicious. The waitress was short with us. If we asked a question she answered sarcastically as if we should have known, except if she would have asked she would've known it was our first time. Starters came quick and the chicken and chicken dumplings shortly after. After that, we had to wait. We had to go to a game at staples center and knew there was traffic. We informed her we would lile boxes. She took a while. Once she brought the boxes we asked for the receipt and water. Waited about 10 min. After bringing the receipt we wanted to pay and waited another 12 min for her to show up with the reader. Thank goodness the hostess started off the experience on the right foot. and thank goodness the kitchen did a fantastic job with the food. Otherwise we would've left.
Hope this can help improve the experience for someone else
Chicken was extremely dry today, service was very slow. Makes me think twice about spending $150 for lunch again. Mac and a Cheese is also nothing like what it was in years past. Made me a bit sad the quality has changed. Have loved eating here since I was a child.
Great service. So glad to have made a reservation. We got in right away. Excellent food.
Food was average.....specialty alcoholic drink was not drinkable.
We went at the end of the day- they were closing early because of rain- service was great and the food was delicious!!
My 1st time there and it was amazing. Felt like I was around my grandmothers kitchen table
I’ve been coming here for years. Love it, especially at Christmas time. Many memories. I like most of the changes, it looks nice. Liked it the other way too. Never used open table before, got right in and bypassed the line, awesome.
Were seated right away staff were friendly. Waitress was helpfl, but spread thin. When asked for extra condaments took a while to get. All in all enjoyed our lunch. Thank you!
We hadn’t been there in years and now we remember why. Very greasy with very little flavor.
We had a terrible experience. We have been going here for years but the quality and service have really gone downhill in the past few years.
We made reservations through Open Table for the breakfast buffet only to find out once we got there that the Christmas Breakfast Buffet is not open... we were told to come back next weekend if we want to... VERY disappointed to say the least
Great nostalgic spot! Fun to grab food before heading into the park.
Not as good as I remember as a kid! But I wont hold that against them! With that being said, our waiter was great! Service was perfect! However, we were slightly disappointed by the mashed potatoes and biscuits. One piece of Chicken was a bit undercooked (we mentioned to our server he apologized he offered a replacement but we were already getting ready to leave so we declined) my chicken was great other than those two pieces that were undercooked. I just discarded it and enjoyed the rest. Dinner (we ordered the fried chicken dinner) was $21.99 each and I guess it was a fair price. We also got a piece of pie with dinner included. Would not go out of my way to go back but if I was at knotts I would try it again. On the plus side we were able to reserve on opentable and save ourselves the VERY long wait during the diner crowd. Two dinners with drinks cost us about $55.
The biscuits were good and came out hot. The fried chicken was good but would’ve been better had I remembered to request it to be well done (then I add salt 😋), the soup tasted as if they’ve changed the recipe which was disappointing, the mashed potatoes were barely warm, I should’ve sent it back but I didn’t...I don’t understand why when they had just started to serve lunch at 11am the potatoes should’ve ever had an opportunity to come out lukewarm.
Knott’s needs to reconsider the quality of the food they’re giving to their guests without cutting corners, or sacrificing quality...when you’re claiming to be “World Famous” for something keep your standards high to be deserving of that title.
A bit pricey however the serving size is proportional to the price. We had the most awesome server who was very understanding to my kids pickyness and special needs. Even my son who was complaining about chicken raved about how good it was. We had had a long day at the park, so the noise level (at 8 in the evening) was a bit loud, especially after a very loud group of teens showed up. Everything I ate was delicious and the pie, which we had to take home, was perfect for breakfast! I am not a big fan of boysenberry (I know, I know) but because it’s Knotts, I did have boysenberry pie. It was good, but not something I would love to eat often. The boysenberry jelly on the rolls, however, was phenomenal. I wish I remember our servers name, she was amazing. The only other thing, besides the noise, was the wait time, but it was busy, so that was expected.
The service was terrible, the food was cold, the chicken soup was awful...all around not a good experience. Will never go back!!!
The best chicken noodle soup ever! Excellent food that tastes like homemade. Don't miss out on the pie!
Disappointing- grew up here and have not been for a long time. No more corn on the cob - now canned corn, potatoes and biscuits were good. Chicken was cooked well, moist but lacked overall flavor. Service was not up to par at all. Waiter was inattentive, slow, never smiled and appeared to be going through the motions of a position he ha severe disdain for. I noticed none of the wait staff were smiling at all - looked like a picture out of the old west where people never smiled. Sad to see such an institution
Take a turn of this nature. I don’t think Walter or Vordelua would be pleased!
We were very excited to come and celebrate a family birthday. The chicken was decent but KFC is better. My meal was cool and the gravy congealed. Nothing was hot except the biscuits which saved the meal. It was a sad experience and we will not be back.
Chicken dinner is always the best. Buiscut’s are amazing? Yum
The food is good, the chicken is great, the service is OK. However, don't give us a menu that includes a lunch menu at 3:30, that says on the menu that lunch is served until 4, and then tell us when we order we have to order off the dinner menu. VERY irritating.
Family thanksgiving dinner.
Restaurant was over booked, we checked in 30 minutes early, got sent back into the park to Spur's chop House all you can eat buffet, that we didn't want, we checked in there at 6:00 for our reservation and were told it would be an hour wait for a table. So I can't really review anything. After spending all day at the amusement park we really just wanted to eat so we decided to go somewhere else.
I was so disappointed at the quality of food, the variety, the fact that much of the food had run out, watery pumpkin pies, disorganization, etc.
I am in the process of writing to management. This place is somewhere I usually enjoy eating. Thanksgiving buffet was a mess. I would never suggest to anyone to do the Thanksgiving buffet here. It was far over priced for such a small variety of foods that were subpar at best. The fact that there wasn't enough food was even worse. Running out of many items before we ate, there is no way we should have paid the same price for a buffet that perhaps earlier in the day had more food, better quality food, or maybe even more organized staffing and serving.
We waited almost an hour and through several requests to even receive iced tea. I watched a chef pull apart a prime rib with his bare hands and then throw the fatty part under a table (I hope in a bucket or receptacle). There were no spoons in several of the offerings such as stuffing and gravy. Also, the omelette station was empty, there was no ham, I mean the list goes on...
Very disappointed in what we were charged. The highlight was the Snoopy photo opportunity.
We were there for the Thanksgiving Buffet. They were overwhelmed with the amount of reservations they had received. Staff was frazzled, customers were irate, and reservations were 1 hour behind schedule.
Once we were finally seated, we were able to help ourselves to their buffet, which was great! But we never had a server, and had to flag down the bus boys to get silverware, drinks, and eventually pay our bill. We could have left the restaurant without paying and they would not have even noticed.
On the plus side, the restaurant we were taken to was not Mrs. Knott's, but another one inside the park. When we were finished with our meal we enjoyed a free night inside Knott's Berry Farm. It was definitely the perfect way to offset the poor dining experience we received!
Our reservation for Thanksgiving Day was at 5:15PM. I checked in at 4:45PM with the hostess. We waited to be seated thinking that we would be seated within 30 minutes. I checked with the hostess at 5:20 only to find out that all party reservations were pushed back a hour and 15 minutes to hour in a half. After an hour, I checked in with the hostess and she couldn't find our reservation card. We finally got seated at 6:30PM. The restaurant tried to seat us, a party of 10 at a table for 6. Um NO! We waited longer for the bus boy to clean a table that seats 10. Finally ready to eat, we found the turkey and roast beef to be cold, the buffet was down to scraps and we had 30 minutes to eat because they closed the buffet at 7:00PM. Even the desserts were gone and the coffee was cold. This was not worth $50.00 dollars per person. This was robbery! Very disappointed. This was a logistically unfit, unorganized, unprofessional event for what is supposed be a positive memorable holiday experience.
We were very disappointed. We had made reservations in October. We drove up from SALEM Oregon because of a basketball tournament for our son. We were very excited to be able to have reservations and dine there on Thanksgiving. However we had to check in at two different locations and the wait was more than 2 hours from our 5:00 reservation. Waiting that long with 2 small children was unacceptable, which is why we timed our reservation for 5:00. So we had to find somewhere in the park to eat. This was not how we planned our trip, so that was the most disappointing part. The rest of the Knott’s Berry Farm experience was excellent.
We didn’t realize that the Mrs Knott’s Chicken Dinner Thanksgiving Buffet was Knot actually at the restaurant. This was a bummer of a surprise to find out we were eating in a back room of a different restaurant (inside the park) and so was the 6:05 seating for a 5:00pm reservation. Service was friendly but overwhelmed. Frustration behind...the food was very good and the extra hour wait allowed us to have some time enjoying the park (not sure if they wanted that). Knot what we expected but still a fun evening :)
I was pleased to get a call from the restaurant for confirming our reservations. But after all we went through to get seated. They should’ve told me where to exactly check in.
So all 21 of us were having fun in the Knott’s Berry Park, we all walked out to meet at the restaurant. Arrived 15 mins early to check-in. They directed us to the back of the restaurant outside where a lady sat at a table. Checked-in again...had to go through security where they searched through our bags. Stood in line for another usher to guide us back into the park. We waited a good 15 mins in that line. He lead us to the restaurant in the park, had to check-in for the 3rd time. As I gave her our reservation time and info. She wrote the exact time we got there, 20 mins late for our 5:00 reservations. They were seating guest as they checked in. I was told it would be a hour wait. That’s when things got heated. #%^TEMP_OC_CONTENT_HEREamp;@ we actually had to wait the hour, finally got out table, went to the buffet line and most of the entrees were empty. The dessert table had 10 different pies, cakes and tarts. But only 4 selections to choose from. They ran out of dessert. This buffet wasn’t worth $50 a person. Never going back for Thanksgiving Buffet.
We made a reservation for Thanksgiving, to find out that it wasn't for the chicken restaurant, but for a buffet. We came out of the park to check in, the check in desk was hidden behind a dark curve with no signage or lighting, which is just dumb. We were told to go to another line to be escorted back in to the park, which didn't move for 15 minutes. When we asked, we found that there were still people in line who had 4:00 reservations - - this was at 5:15 (our reservations were at 5)! That's ridiculous!!! We ended up leaving the line and putting our name in for the actual chicken restaurant and waited 45 minutes. The ambiance was fine, but the food was uninteresting and no one liked it. The biscuits were fantastic. At first they were out of all flavors of pie, then they restocked and only had boysenberry. We would rather have stayed in the park and eaten burgers for Thanksgiving. We'll never do this again.
The food was great. We Had to wait 50 mins to get as we booked a time & they were running late.
There was a lot of food but when it came to having desert they starting putting everything away. No cakes, no waffles very disappointed.
Food never disappoints! I would recommend going there anytime.
Made a reservation a month in advance for Thanksgiving dinner. The advertisement looked wonderful. It was the worst experience. Overbooked, waited over an hour past our reservation time. The place was filthy. There were no plates or drinks available for 20 minutes. The food was less than adequate. The staff was hustling to assist, but they were running out of food, and whatever food that was available was cold and comparable to Sizzler. It was such a waste of time and money especially because they changed $50.00 per person. It was a huge disappointment.
There was a long wait even though we had reservations, however the food was worth the wait!
We had a resevation but the restaurant was overbooked. Ran out of plates (buffet), ran out of prime rib, service was terrible. Table clothes were not changed between customers. I would not reccommend on a holiday.
We went for the special Thanksgiving Day Buffet. It is the best and they have everything prime rib, turkey, ham, fried chicken, Mexican, breakfast foods and pretty much everything in between including all the condiments to with each item. The food is great.
The service was great! The food selection was superb, and we had a great experience eating at Spurs.
