We loved Maize! Great cozy spot just off the Plaza. Thoughtfully composed and reasonably priced wine list (my first glass was oxidized but quickly replaced). The food is creative and has a bit of something for everyone. I went for the Wagyu Meatloaf which was excellent - very filling and perfect for a chilly evening. We also had the Adobo stew which was quite good as well. Santa Fe has a plethora of great restaurants but I could easily see returning here.
Other than losing our reservation and serving lukewarm coffee, the dinner was delicious and the service was wonderful.
Server Marrhew was excellent...third time at Maize..food has been consistently well prepared...drinks perfect..and service supurb..
Dinner started with some excellent blue corn meal muffins. My wife and I had the Octopus starter. The octopus was perfectly cooked but was a little spicy for may wife. All four of us had a different main coarse. My pork tenderloin in green chili stew was very good with the right amount of heat. My wife's trout filet was quite big but not vary flavorful. The service was very good.
Always an incredible dining experience. Perfectly quaint ambience, lovely atmosphere, STELLAR fare at a very reasonable price. Local flavor but not too extreme. Can’t say enough on the positive. ALWAYS visit once while in Santa Fe. Great date or business meal
Wonderful drinks, food and service! Loved the refined dishes we had. Best duck tamale and veggie poblano!
We had a great evening and everyone enjoyed their meal. Two had the trout and one the duck tamales and the other pork. The deserts were fantastic!
I was here over the summer and pleased. This time I found it overpriced and paid $53 for a drink, unremarkable trout entre and 1/2 a tiny appetizer.
In short, I left hungry.
The seating was thoughtless. We were a 5:30 deuce in an empty restaurant and the next two groups, parties of 4 and 6 respectively, were seated right next to us so we were boxed in and overwhelmed by the sound. Worse, a woman in the party of 4 kept coughing openly with no regard for anyone!
Our meal had just been served but it was impossible to enjoy it, between the sound and the woman so we moved across the room. But we should have been seated away from large groups initially. The meal was ruined.
I won't go back.
Our dinners were delicious, and the service was attentive and skilled. The young man setting tables and refilling waters was quiet, detail oriented, and everywhere at once! The squash and bean soup (don't remember the name) was wonderful, and just what I needed after overindulging all Thanksgiving weekend.
Very friendly and competent service, but cuisine was very uninspired and middle of the road for Santa Fe. Tables are cheek by jowl and neighboring conversations, especially from those whose mothers never told them about indoor voices, were intrusive.
There is much better value in Santa Fe.
Must have been a bad day for our server.
The food was fantastic and is certainly come again without hesitation for another go.
plesant surprise, we have been going past ever since it reopened under the new name but never stopped. Its well worth the stop, interesting menu.
Food was outstanding, service was good and very friendly and helpful. Energy in the restaurant was fairly subdued and kept the ambience rating from being higher. Overall would very much recommend Maize to a friend.
We had a reservation but I saw the hostess give our table to a party in front of us because of a issue with their reservation. We were then given a table by the kitchen where there was a lot of traffic and noise. Waiter was rushed and made us feel rushed. My food was just barely warm. They started using a entrance/exit door in main dining area which allowed cold air to enter every time it was opened. For the price this resterant was average. Management needs to do a better job.
Great team providing great service with terrific food.
Maize needs noise baffles on its ceiling when it is crowded, you can't carry on a conversation.
Wonderful food and service! We will be back! We love Mark, the bartender!
The food was amaizing If I were to return to Santa Fe I would definitely return. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu.
One of the best meals at one of the best-designed and best-looking restaurants that we have ever been to.
The service was superb, the ambiance was excellent, and the food was exquisite.
This week, we dined at Bouche, which was excellent. Maize is even better, partly because of the beautiful design of the restaurant, the spaciousness, and the décor.
Food was innovative and showcased southwestern flavors, giving new takes on some traditional thing such as pobleno relleno. Service was superb. The wine list is extensive and well marched for the entrees. Only the noise level posed a challenge to having conversation without yelling
If you love great food, then you have to visit this place...it’s amazing. We shared a number of the appetizers so that we could enjoy all of the different flavors...by far, one of the best dinners we have ever had!!!
Service, as well as food, always excellent. Has quickly become one of my Santa Fe favorites--Where else can you dine, the server over hears that someone is having a birthday, and a cake appears!!
Just the best-
Festive and welcoming
Excelente service. Great food. Great ambiance. Had a great time.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and our waiter had a great sense of humor.
Excellent food, wine, ambiance, staff all was perfect!!! We have been there three times and it's always 5 star!!!!
Excellent food, terrible service. Glasses remain empty and dirty dishes in front of you. The food is truly spectacular.
Carefully prepared, visually stunning, yummy dishes. Nice ambiance. Server ws excellent but supporting staff seemed to be a bit disjointed.
We found this out of the blue, but by far the BEST food experience. Have the duck tamale/duck. I was worried that it would be too rich, but by far my dish was top 5 of the best food I've ever had. I'm hispanic, and this duck tamale was better than (gasp!) my grandma's! Our simple date was most memorable! Thank you, Open Table for making our reservation very easy!!!
The vibe is relaxed and friendly. An excellent award wining pastry chef created one of the best cheese cakes I ever had a pleasure of eating! Every course was a delight! Warm and friendly staff take good care of you in this pleasingly designed restaurant.
Pleasantly surprised by the energy and creativity that went into the menu and food prep. Kudos on decor. Excellent staff. Will be going back for more.
The food here was quite good-definitely influenced by the local culture. Heavy on seafood and limited wine menu. Loved the artwork and the ambience in the inside portion of the restaurant. I just thought it was a little pricey for what it was, but I would still go there again. Very nice find for a traveler just passing through!
Creative, beautiful and delicious.
My husband & I had dinner with friends to celebrate two birthdays. The restaurant has a very elegant but
warm, cozy feel to it. Our meals were both delicious & very healthy. ( I loved my Willow Basket) & the Dreamcatcher desert was very tasty & creative. The service was excellent. We will be back & will recommend it to friends.
Two of us hared the strip steak, which came with delicious green Chile potatoes and grilled asparagus. Those potatoes alone were worth the trip. We each also had a dessert; Tres Leches Cheesecake for me and the chocolate dessert for my husband. Both were good.
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our dinner at Maize. Excellent creative food, well presented. Service was excellent, cordial and professional. Very attractive dining room. In all a great experience and we look forward to returning soon.
Relaxing meal in Santa Fe square. Maize has it all - great food, staff, ambiance, and location. Get a reservation and walk there from any downtown hotel. I'll be back!
After the wonderful lunch at the Compound and a nap I arrived a little early for my reservation, the places was slamming so the young lady at the hostess station directed me to the bar to wait for my table.
Since I was already seated I just let the table reservation go and ordered food and drink right there in the bar. I started with Three Sisters Soup: chilled corn bisque with grilled zucchini, served with black bean bread. Another great cold soup this week, refreshing and delicious.
For my entree I chose the Poblano Relleno with carrot-piñon mole, nogado sauce and corn foam. This was as beautiful as it was full of incredible flavor and texture.
I had the most incredible wine, 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Austin Hope of Paso Robles, it went down like butta.
Very disappointing experience. Nice place but somewhat indifferent staff. Food was not up to par...appetizer ceviche was OK, crusted trout and duck tamale entrees were not good as both meals were dry and overdone. It was as if they sat too long in the kitchen . Maybe they did since the couple next to us was served their meal before we received ours despite having ordered before them. We weren’t asked about our meal, paid and left. Like I said...indifferent. Not my kind of place.
This was our first visit to Maize and we enjoyed it very much. Got a glimpse of the main dining room on the way in--this is used for dinner only. Very nice place! We had lunch on the patio, which is so nice this time of year in Santa Fe. The atmosphere was great. Service was attentive. We enjoyed margaritas and a very good smoked tomato salsa/guacamole with house-made chips appetizer. The chips are very thick and crispy. Interesting texture. Next, my wife got a whopper of a burger that was loaded with great accouterments: caramelized onions, New Mexican green chiles (of course), cheese, etc. She also had a side of yucca fries, which she loved. I had the soft tacos: grilled shrimp plus slaw, etc. in one and roasted lamb shank plus a chipotle aioli and other accouterments for the other. Really good. Overall, this was a lovely experience. We'll definitely return on our next visit to Santa Fe.
