Southern
Opened in Steamboat, Colorado in the spring of 2014, LOW is a heartfelt homage to the best in Southern cooking. Bustling and bright, the restaurants reflect the spirit and passion behind America’s “favorite” food. Owners Katy and Brian Vaughn grew up in the South and have been known to get a little homesick from time to time so they decided to bring a little down home to the higher elevation of Steamboat and opened LOW. Met with rave reviews, they decided to expand LOW to Denver in 2017 in the Lower Highlands Neighborhood. Chef Brian Vaughn has created a food and beverage menu in both locations that combines time-honored Southern cuisine using only the highest quality of ingredients. The result is genuine hospitality, serious drinks, and the best fried chicken you have ever sunk your teeth into. We promise.

We love the fried Chicken, biscuits, sides, and appetizers, but have been underwhelmed by the jumbo, the catfish and the dessert was actually pretty bad (Pecan Pie). It is a bit uncomfortable and cold inside. The staff are not attentive enough. The price is a bit much. We really would like to see this business improve and succeed! We would recommend it but with the above warnings.

Ed had the mussels chowder and I the deviled eggs to start. He had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. I the shrimp and grits. All of them were fantastic! The reviews on the fried chicken were verified. The restaurant also has some outstanding specialty drinks. The Porch Swing was unbelievable! Outstanding restaurant!

Definitely the BEST fried chicken in town. I love fried chicken and have been sad since Tom's Home Cookin in Five Points closed a couple of years ago. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy, and moist. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the seasoned vegetables were very tasty. It's definitely a bit on the pricey side, but it's quality food. I'm looking forward to trying other things on their menu.

It lived up to its spot among the best fried chicken places in the state, but there wasn't much else on the menu terribly appealing. The restaurant closed its doors on Sunday, Feb 3.

The place had a good vibe and the music was excellent; sort of a modern folk/country he said. The fried chicken was PERFECT and the collards and biscuits were very good. The mashed potatoes were too thin but ok and the gravy could have been more flavorful. I would recommend not sitting at a table for 2 as once there was an ice bucket with wine on it, the plates were all hanging off the edges. The waitress could have easily fixed that if she was paying attention. She was adequate but perhaps in the training stage. (The bartender came over to refill our glasses and ask how our food was.) The chicken alone will get us back there and we’d like to try the deviled eggs and ribs.

Best fried chicken ever!! It's moist, well- seasoned and perfectly crispy. The mashed potatoes are ultra creamy and rich. My mom had the cheesy grits. They were also superb. The biscuits are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside...a perfect accompaniment to the chicken and mashed potatoes. We were there celebrating a birthday and shared a piece of pecan pie with fresh whipped cream. The filling was wonderful- not too sweet and loaded with pecans. The crust was a bit tough, but I eat pie for the filling anyway. The servers were so friendly and helpful. The entire experience was lovely. I will certainly be back.

The fried chicken is way over rated. It was dry and pieces are small. The “mashed potatoes” tasted like they just came out of a box - nothing real about them. The drinks are very very small pours and expensive. The service is fine. The atmosphere is ok - kind of loud and you are close to other diners. This was a huge disappointment and the bill was well over $200 for 4 people. Definitely not worth it. Food was really bad.

Comfort food galore. Low Country Kitchen's fried chicken is absolutely delicious, and the various side dishes (we tried mac & cheese and collard greens ) are equally yummy. Amazing biscuits. however, as is the case with many restaurants these days, it's noisy in there and our group (All of us in our 70s) found it difficult to hear from time to time. I do think it's kind of pricey, but in keeping with many similar restaurants.

We had a great brunch at Low Country Kitchen! The service was great! I ordered the French toast and chicken and the chicken is amazing. My friends ordered a side of Mac and cheese but it was not the best. I loved the biscuits and they also recommended the deviled eggs which my friend also said was good! I would definitely go back again!

The service was pretty wretched. Not hostile, just ambivalent. The vibe is definitely a place that is on the downslope trying to keep a nostril above water. It's too bad because the fried chicken is great. The jambalaya (2 orders) was exceedingly salty, like someone mistook the BIG tablespoon for the 1/2 teaspoon.

Service was great. The happy hour menu for food and drinks is fantastic. Strongly recommend to try the happy hour. Dinner was good, not great. Chicken was dry and no flavor. The jambalaya had to much fake smoke flavoring. Nobody in Colorado cooks like they do in New Orleans.

The best item was the chicken and biscuit. The bloody may was decent. Yet, the service was slow, a lot of the dishes were luke warm, and the fried chicken/french toast dish included fried chicken that soggy due to the maple syrup.

I’m from NC and know southern food very well. This restaurant nailed it! In Denver for a conference and visited with 3 colleagues. The best item on the table was the fried chicken, crunchy and juicy just as you’d hope. Top notch chicken! Shrimp and grits were very yummy too, cheese grits cooked to perfection. Atmosphere is cute with white-wash walls. Noisy at the bar but that’s to be expected. I’d definitely recommend Low Country Kitchen.
