About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
  • Neighborhood gem
Opened in 2006 by 8 time James Beard Award Nominee, Chef James Campbell Caruso.
La Boca has the feel of a lively European wine bar, featuring an extensive selection of carefully chosen Spanish wines and Sherries. Chef Caruso's Modern Spanish Cuisine is inspired by the exuberance of Spanish cooking combined with fresh, local ingredients. La Boca has been  called "the most influential restaurant in Santa Fe" by the Pasatiempo Magazine and the New York Times describes the menu as "modern re-inventions of classic Spanish cuisine" Knowledgeable and animated staff graciously guide guests to the perfect wine to complement their meals. La Boca also prides itself on being an ambassador of Spanish sherry culture, transporting its guests to Jerez in the crisp cool flavors of Fino, or the deep fig-essence of a Pedro Ximenez.

Join us every Thursday and Friday night for live music on the Taberna main stage!

This was our first time dining at La Boca and we enjoyed everything - the wine selection, the food, the service, the suggestions from our server. The tapas were amazing - it was almost as if we were dining in Barcelona…that good. The pan con tomate with jamon serrano, the grilled Roman artichokes, gambas al ajillo, and the Pintxos - Spanish anchovies, queso fresco + tomato-caper compota. Be sure to come hungry and if the weather is nice try to sit outside.

Great food, lovely attentive service and a nice patio with ample seating. The dessert of a vanilla tart with brandied cherries was a highlight

Nice restaurant. Food was good: we had gazpacho, shrimp, beet salad, burrata & asparagus, steak tapas. Something heavy about the food--especially the pan con tomate - thick slices of bread; similarly with sauces - more sweetness, and oiliness than expected. Wait staff is good.....place your slowly if you want to have time for conversation. everything arrives at once otherwise

I weigh food heavily, which is why La Boca got 4 stars. The two of us tried 2 Basque style tapas and the paella. The Marcella sausage tapas was delicious, with two generous slices of baguette topped with a roasted poquillo pepper and aioli. The Spanish anchovies on baguette was less interesting - skimpy on the anchovies and without a lot of flavor. The paella (we ordered a dish for one) was absolutely packed with flavor, and a generous amount of mussels, shrimp, chicken and sausage. While we loved the paella, we ate this dish last and had to take half home in a box because we were so full! The wine list was extensive and appreciated. Others have mentioned the small tables which are indeed very close together in this small restaurant... it's true, but not a deterrent if since the food is great. The service was ok - very polite, a bit slow and somewhat inefficient (serve a dish but don't take dirty dishes away etc). Parking isn't easy; my husband uses a cane and I finally dropped him off and went in search of a space. Overall, this was a positive experience, with a wonderful array of tapas to choose from. We will return!

Excellent selection of tapas and attentive service. Outdoor seating, however, is very uncomfortable- hard metal chairs or a tile seat wall do not make for a comfortable experience.

The ambiance was very nice and the food looked promising but the Jamon, while presented nicely, was pretty tasteless The Anchovies were white anchovies and also bland. Service was excellent but could have been a bit more generous on the Tio Pepe's given the price. If possible especially in the hot summer the table water (served in wine bottles nice touch) should be chilled. Overall if the food were sourced better, especially for the price, it could be a nice Spanish experience. Both Jamon and Anchovies should fill your taste buds with rich flavors. Work on the menu and maybe offer a lunch Tapas special for locals to create some buzz.
