I spent my anniversary here and it could not have been a better experience. The wait staff was approachable, knowledgeable, happy to answer questions, and fun to talk to. We had the sommelier pair wines with our courses and were blown away.
Highly recommend the Dine LA option if it is available. If it is not, then still do not hesitate to come here. Special occasion or not, this place is 5/5
Honestly- some of the best food my husband and I have had since moving to LA a year and a half ago. It was so refreshing to have thoughtful dishes prepared perfectly, in a beautiful setting with the choreography of service so well maintained. We will absolutely be back. Thank you to Kurt for making the evening so enjoyable (and to the sommelier whose name escapes us). It was truly a pleasure to dine with you tonight.
Our waiter Jeff and the rest of the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. We did the prix fixed menu and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend Gwen! The scallop was unreal.
Truly Amazing food, not just the food but everything. Great setting and interior design as well.
My dinner at Gwen was one of my great meals in Los Angeles! I had six oysters, wagyu beef tartare
and Diver scallops that still smelled of the sea. All were more delicious than anything I could ever imagine!
The bread was the best that I have ever had, and even though I thought that I had given up bread I simply
could not resist! A mouth watering dining experience. Our server was saucy and great, the sommelier
Morgan was a dream come true, boy did he know his wine, and in this case Australian wine, we had a wine that he recommended from the Mornington peninsula that was superb and not too expensive ($65.).
My only problem with Gwen was the 18% "service fee" on the bill. There was also an line for tips on the
credit card receipt. I almost put another 18% on it until my friend pointed this fact out to me. This left a
bad taste in my mouth, something the food and service did not do. This is bad public relations and should
But despite the "service fee" I can't wait to return to Gwen for a mouth-watering dinner!
Overall, great experience with excellent service and good food. Prices are bit high even for Hollywood/LA, but it's a good special occasion place or for dining on a corporate credit card.
Wagyu list is phenom, good wine, and good cocktails. Duck fat fries are delicious. Service is great, and the atmosphere isn’t too crazy so you can actually hear each other speak without shouting.
Probably as bad a service as I can remember. The waitstaff paid very little attention to our table and at points were flat out hard to find. By the time desert came around we didn't want to order any because we were tired of dealing with the service. I work in the industry and am generally very lenient but wow. It takes a lot to get me scratching my head but these guys pulled it off. The food was fine but with all the choices you can make in LA I would find little reason to return.
the restaurant offers a very interesting menu, its specialty is the cured meats with several options of Japanese wagyu, however service could be more attentive. Varied wine list.
Always amazing service and of course the best meat in town. 80day dry aged is coming back soon and I can't wait.
I took my daughters for New Years Eve and the experience was spectacular. The 1285 balloons made the ambience even better. The meal was preset but was wonderful! The service was superb and we left with a great memory to end 2018. Thank you Gwen
My boyfriend and I went to Gwen for the first time on New Year's Eve. There was a 3 course prefixed menu and we were expecting far less than what we received. The food and service was exception! We were blown away by the experience and will definitely be returning soon. Perhaps one of the best meals I have had in Los Angeles!
Great Great rib Eye and Rack of Lamb. Wine list and cocktails are very good too. A bit pricey for the average dinner meal. Special occasion for most folks.
We really wanted to like this place. It was to be a highlight of our LA dining experience. Now I’d only recommend it for those with a business account and a taste for very large portions of expensive beef.
- bartenders great and attentive
-open kitchen and grill set up interesting and good for a photo
-great bread, both bread and butter salted
-Pretense of uniqueness, including credit card for reservations and threat of $50 fee for canceling within 48 hours
-Walk-in, you’ve got to like big cuts of meet, not sure one wall of same though entire dinner is appealing
-Waiter, lost interest as soon it was clear we weren’t spending $500 or more. Forgot complete order. Dropped off bill and walked away.
-Menu, set up to maximize $ spent, rather than value for meal.
-Knives, currently a big deal in steak houses. Actual ‘moment’ unimpressive choices and explanations. Even worst the steak knives were dull
Steak, 16 oz sirloin average, not cooked to order, had to find waiter to have grilled to request. Only one sauce available.
-Sides, nice, but small portions. More than $1 per small carrot
-Dessert, nothing tempting, especially after experience above. Small dessert offered gratis anyway.
-Price, one shared entree, two salads, two sides, exceeded $200, not including tip. Aided by average glass wine for $35.
Bottom line: another disappointing $200+ LA meal. Too many other choices to return. We’ll see where they are in a year Try Alexander’s in Pasadena. Expensive, but you’ll be happier.
A most professional operation, the staff all knowledgeable and a pleasure to hear their down to earth answers to any queries. The meat was magic and unlike any other in LA. Well done.
Amazing food and excellent service. True dining experience!
The food and service were outstanding. however, the food is very expensive, and the choice of sides is very limited. Also, the starters do not have enough variety. Basically, only one salad, which was delicious, but not enough choices. Although I love good meat, I do not like to eat a meal of just meat, and too many of the starters were meat-focused.
Delicious steak & the bread is amazing.
We order the wonderful tasting menu. They were kind enough to substitute another item for the charcuterie.
Absolutely incredible! Well worth the price. It was truly an experience rather than just a meal.
Great special restaurant and their Holiday menu was wonderful
It was the worst dining experience I've had in years. Too much to say about how terrible it was. Suffice to say, will never, ever return or recommend. Stay away at all costs!
We had a prefix for Christmas, the menu stated bone-in ribeye as part of the main course, what it didn't say is that you have to split a ribeye. I barely had any meat, maybe 2 oz total. It was mostly gristle and fat.
Also, they didn't ask us how we wanted our meat prepared, they just brought a single steak to the table, precut. My wife likes her steaks well done and I like mine medium rare.
The food was okay but mostly tiny portions for each course. We definitely didn't get our value for the money.
I don't recommend this place.
We left with a $270 bill for 2 and left unsatisfied, we had to go eat elsewhere about an hour later.
They have room for improvement: Give bigger portions!
Overall: small portions with mediocre food and service. Not worth it and I don't recommend this place.
Over priced and excessively average quality. No one used to New York standards should waste time here. This is fast food not fine dining.
We visited Gwen to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday on Christmas Eve. The service was great and the food was phenomenal. They were serving a set menu and everything that came out of the kitchen was cooked perfectly and so delicious. Lovely evening all around!
No mention of Christmas menu prior. Not even when they called to confirmed. Would not have gone otherwise. Overpriced for what the meal was.
Ordered wine. Server brought the glass. Took 15 mins to fill it with wine. Our dessert came before our server could ask us if we wanted coffee/tea, which he didn’t even ask. We had to ask him. Took 15 mins for that to come out. Too bad couldn’t enjoy it with the dessert.
My husband and I went here expecting an outstanding meal with incredible service. Instead, we got below average food with mediocre service at a crazy, ridiculous price!! AND...they add on an 18% service fee that is NOT the tip. Seriously?? Do not go to this restaurant unless you need some expensive disappointment in your life.
We’d been meaning to dine in at Gwen for ages and been customers of the front butcher for a while before our meal. Every dish on the tasting menu was not only beautiful but, we realized, the best version of that particular dish we’d ever had. We upgraded to the Waygu steak and every bite was flawless. Their scallop still doesn’t register as real it’s so delicious in texture and flavor. This place is a MUST. A lot of restaurants in Hollywood with a high price tag seem to think that cost means quality, but with Gwen whatever they are charging is because the care and knowledge and skill behind it being fully realized. I got a restaurant crush. Thanks gwen!
Best dinner in L.A.
Best steak I’ve ever had!! The food was next level. Great experience
Service slow and uninspired. 6 people table and we spent over $1,500. Meats were good but not outstanding. Desserts were terrible! Only drip coffee, no French press or cappuccino. The amount of money we spent, at least good coffee at the end.
Excellent from beginning to end. Elegant and stylish interior, attentive and friendly staff, and quite possibly the best steak we’ve ever had. We did the tasting menu and it was outstanding. We will definitely be back.
Great restaurant. Elise is a terrific waitress
Being a foodie, it didn’t quite meet my expectations. However, we had the sweetest server that night. The dishes were a little too salty to my liking. We ordered the boneless ribeye and it was good. Overall good and there’s really nothing that stood out to be my favorite.
Best meal of my life. Get the tasting menu and a Negroni. You won’t regret it.
It was honestly the best dining experience we have ever had. Sitting in front of the kitchen and seeing the staff work together made my husband and i feel as if we were watching Top Chef live. And the Food, best steak we have had. Epic night!
Not the usual standard for Curtis Stone. Enjoyed the 10 course tasting menu about 6 months ago. The menu has changed as well as the quality of the food. The beef, however, was outstanding. The five course tasting menu for 85.00 is very reasonable, but perhaps quality has been compromised.
