Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant is the second restaurant from fine dining chef Curtis Stone (of Maude) and the first he’s opened with his brother Luke Stone. Gwen is both a European-style, chef-driven butcher shop and a restaurant that is redefining dining in LA, with a menu that calls on fire-based cooking techniques. Whether you’re picking up house-made charcuterie, prime and rare breed meats from the retail store, enjoying a feast in the dining room or relaxing with a bite and cocktail at the bar, Gwen delivers the highest standards of quality, taste and service.

On Wednesdays-Sundays, we offer Chef's Carte Blanche 5-course tasting menu for $140 per person (limited quantities available).     We had a fabulous experience at Gwen. Both my wife and I believe this was the food highlight of our month long trip. The food, in particular, is extraordinary and reasonably priced. We started with a drink at the bar. The bar attendant was lovely, warm and generous and happily made my wife a cocktail she usually doesn’t make. And Fiona loved it so much she had a second one. We ordered 4 meals: the chicken liver mousse for Fiona, the lobster tagliatelle for myself, a mixed green salad and the duck fat potatoes. All 4 were extraordinary. Fiona has sampled many chicken liver pates in her time but I think this one might have been her favourite. The lobster pasta was so tasty. Combined with chorizo, the flavour lingered in my mouth. The salad was yum and those potatoes blew our mind with the white vinegar/tarragon combination. Wow! Rocked our world it did. Jordan, our waiter, was great: kind and generous. We would have loved to have returned the next night but unfortunately it was a Monday when Gwen is shut. Oh well, we’ll just have to venture back to LA one day soon so we can visit. Highly recommended.

    From the butcher to the chef, and on the plate to the guest, Gwen makes sure to care about each step ever so carefully with detail, precision, and taste. From a dry aged rib eye that melts in your mouth, you o wonderful drink mixtures, and outstanding hospitality, Gwen is the place in Los Angeles

    The food was delicious. Solo diner sitting at the chef’s table. It was fascinating watching the action & the expediter call out orders and timing updates. There was an entire menu dedicated to water. Interesting but pretentious in my opinion. I did not realize the portions were on the smaller side but felt it was unrealistic to get a 24-36oz steak for myself. The server was knowledgeable but unrealistic in suggestions for me. Don’t suggest lemonade if I cannot do sugar or alcohol as a diabetic. I kind of felt at times as if he was trying to push up the total check. I would like to return with a dining partner to enjoy some of the items meant to share.

    Went to celebrate my boyfriend birthday and we sat at the chefs counter. It was a BLAST! We got to watch Chef Chris work and he was so awesome - he told us about the process of what he was cooking, where the restaurant sourced their ingredients and gave great recommendations!

    Welcoming hosts, short delay in getting the table ready but overall dinner service was great as always. Thank you to our server Chance for the warm service and recommendations.     Let’s start from the beginning. We had reservations at 7:15 and we were not seated till 7:50. The manager came to apologize but that was it. It’s interesting for a restaurant to have a 15 minute period where if you arrive later than 15 minutes, than you lose your spot, but they can make you wait double that. When we were seated, the waiter who saw us was cold and kind of didn’t care to help us or be there. The wine attendant was also a bit off. Regardless, we tried to make the best of the evening. We ordered oysters, fried artichokes, duck fat potatoes, the 36 oz rib eye and asparagus. The asparagus never even arrived and by the time the waiter approached us again, we were practically done with the steak. Overall, I wouldn’t go back. Food was mediocre but if you have to wait for so long to be seated and aren’t even acknowledged after the fact, than that speaks volumes.

    The food was incredible… no more to be said there. I absolutely loved the service style. I think a lot of high end establishments try really hard to make you feel special. You have a water person, and drink person, just a feeling of being too much. Not at Gwen.. the service is personable, relaxed, just the right amount of attention, they don’t over do it. Can’t wait to come back!

    Sat at the chef’s counter and thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff was fabulous - loved our server Nick. The food was so amazing! I would highly recommend Gwen, we will be back!
